Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The main issues with front loading is it can decrease your competitiveness for that season (as you're overpaying a player and not spending that money on quality to improve your squads chances).

However that's only if you can spend that money securing talent that improves your roster. If you can't it's better to front load than just have cap space flying free.

It can bite you if you choose the wrong player to front load. You want to front load loyal players committed to the club long term. It's bad if you pay someone double then they request a release the next year meaning you're only offloading a small proportion of your cap rather than their full value

I understand their is a 'rule' about spending your cap, but whats the penalty if you dont?

Is it just a 'preferred' rule where the NRL send you a breach notice and tell you are a naughty boy, or 'we will kick you out of the comp' rule?

Not sure but its a joke to an extant. They were going to fine the knights for being under if they didn't spend up to the cap even though they have just had 3 wooden spoons in a row. I think fine and points deduction though not certain. I do not want to front/back load any contract. Just use what we got. Makes it simple.

Front-loading a contract, correct me if I'm wrong, works like this:
For e.g. Player 1 on a three year deal for $500k a year. So that's $1.5m over 3 years.
Usually Year 1 - $500k, Year 2 - $500k, Year 3 - $500k, but front loading would go like this,
Year 1 - $700k, Year 2 - $400k, Year 3 $400k…

The only draw back, is if you front load a player, and the guy wants to leave.

Correct and it is quite possible he would want to leave after the first year because he would now be getting paid "unders" especially if he has a good year.

Today is a Friday..generally know as the end of the week (working anyway)..

Anything you don't spend goes to the Storm Roosters and Broncos for their junior development..

Have we signed the Munster yet?

Martin Bella

Bloody hell , you and Geo wanting to sign has beens from the 80's , all because they used to play for your junior club

This has to stop

I'd rather we sign Cam Munster , but people seem too concerned with his misdemeanours

You can't claim Storm reserve graders as Easts Old Boys , its not as if they went out and said " I want to play for a club in a dodgy part of Brisbane that chokes EVERY year around finals time " that could just as easily do that at Parramatta

Munster would be GOLD at the WT's that's for sure

You would be getting blokes who are on multi-year deals, such a Lawrence, Reynolds or ET and boosting their last year by a small amount, say 10k to rejig the deal. Do it for their middle years, not the tail.

It's possible you may also be able to decouple cash payments from the cap allocation or come to an agreement to reserve the payments in a fixed term deposit.

I would laugh if a big signing announcement was made today
Some people would have to eat some humble pie
But it's not going to happen just before the first trial
You wouldn't want to throw a spanner in the works now
If it was going to happen it would be just after this trial
That's my guess
Its not a rumour

So what is it then?

You can call it what ever you would like
I have no idea if we are talking to or signing anyone soon
I am just saying if we were an announcement wouldn't be made this week
That is what I think
I don't think a guess should be classed as a rumour

Well if it isn’t fact, what is it?
