Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Tigers go cold on English recruit

The outstanding form of youngster Esan Marsters has made Wests Tigers pull out of their bid to sign crack English centre Oliver Gildart.

The current Young England Player of the Year, Wigan star Gildart was keen to come to the Tigers next season.

Tigers recruitment manager Dave Warwick even checked out his form on a recent trip to the UK - but the club decided they are better off with Marsters.

Centre was shaping as a real problem for the Tigers this year following the loss of both Moses Suili and Taane Milne.

But Marsters has stepped up to the plate and is playing as well as any centre in the competition.

There's 2 centres in every team and we also just lost 2\. So does this mean Esan & Kev are it for all eternity? God help us if they get injured!

If we get Jai Field or Meaney that’s big

Would leave us with huge money to buy other players

Nathan Cleary comes to mine

Field doesn't have the build for first grade in my opinion.

They were saying that of Dufty too. Maybe long-term you are right.

I can see field taking down someone like Founa unless field gets him by the legs and that carries some risk.

Well that's no trouble at all, so long as we keep Fonua on our team?

Talking about a Founa built player.

Like who Eddie?

I second this question.

My mail is we have a handshake deal for Nick Meaney for 2019.

However if this ValHolmes things posted in other thread has any legs anything could change.

If I'm wrong don't shoot the messenger  !!

Todd Carney - walks away from Cowboys

Todd Carney appears to be headed back to Sydney and has given up hope of joining North Queensland due to a family illness.

NRL 360 co-host Paul Kent revealed the Cowboys have confirmed Carney has told his Queensland Cup side Northern Pride he won’t be available for them anymore.

Kent believes Carney is preparing to move to Sydney due to family reasons.

He was in ongoing talks with the NRL and its boss Todd Greenberg to have a contract registered.

He had been training with the Cowboys while playing for the Pride.

Now his rugby league future is once again up in the air.

Kent has heard he could be headed to play for Newtown in the NSW Cup, which is the feeder club for Cronulla.

It was the Sharks who sacked Carney for the infamous “bubbler” incident which potentially ended his NRL career.

Meaney makes sense but Valentine Holmes? Can't see him leaving the Sharks.

Can’t see him staying at the sharks. He isn’t happy and is playing like it. Would be a great addition.

If you are wrong, so be it, I like to hear these rumours/stories, keep it up Eddie, or anyone else for that matter.

Haven't seen much of the Sharks this year but he looks a lot better on the wing than fullback.

I just saw the Val thread and threw that in i know nothing about it.

I wouldn't mind that for this season obviously but would prefer Meaney over Holmes for sure long term at fullback for WT.

Meaney is a fullback, Holmes is NOT.
We don’t Holmes spitting chips here to demand the fullback role.

Speak for yourself… He's established and proved himself... The rookie may not even cut it

The rookie may also he one of the better fullbacks in the NRL in time.

Which i don't think Val will ever be. Who knows maybe he will be at a new club?

Still 100% see your side of the argument. You get a proven NRL player or a player yet to debut?

However fullback is such a specialist role. You have to be playing it since you were youngish in my opinion.

I would role the dice if given the choice so to speak on the rookie.

Game of opinions isn't it.

Holmes was horrible at FB. Meaney was killing NYC and State Cup at FB. Holmes probs faster but Meaney can also play in the halves. Meaney cheaper, Holmes overpriced. Holmes no. Meaney yes. No questions, Meaney is the better option.

Meaney also has a better passing game.
