Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Can anyone provide an answer on what redress the club has (if any) for player negotiations which are impacted by what Penrith is now alleged to have done? Let's face it, our best chance of signing top talent is Ivan and this continuing uncertainty about the coaching role at the club must be damaging our club in the eyes of prospective recruits when compared to other clubs.

I posted on this subject earlier today in a different thread. I think it's a real issue. What player worth their salt would sign for us without certainty on who was coaching for the next couple of years. I'd imagine any ongoing negotiations with quality players would be on hold until this is resolved. For that reason alone this has got to be resolved ASAP. Either Cleary stays or he goes and we name the next coach quickly. I'm not a lawyer but don't think there'd be any redress against Penrith even if we could prove we missed out on quality players because of their mischief.

If Farah does sign, or anyone else for that matter, and Cleary is quoted in the press release with the usual fluff, that could be a good indication of where he’ll be in 2019.

Thanks for the considered response. We can only hope that the Panthers suffer on and off the field from this debacle.

Not many clubs would sign players then as most coaches have a contract that is ending in a few years. Seibold has come out and said that he intends to see out his current contract with Souths, that must make everyone at Souths so happy knowing that the Broncos are circling. Seibold didn’t say he wants an extension.

We might need Robbie as a coach…

Onya Robbie! You’v made the world of difference since returning - all class .. charge downs, 5th tackle options, repeat sets etc etc, you’ve got it all.
Rotation with Liddle next year.

I'm not sure if its been mentioned already, but apparently Christopher McQueen wants to head to the Cowboys. Sticking point is how much WT will subsidise.

I think the decision making on future signings should be taken out of Ivan's hands
He wont be able to make clear and conscious decisions in the best interest of our club
If a new coach puts his hand up to coach our club we should consider it
But only if Panthers come to the party with a substantial pay out and some players
Think about it
Say Griffin comes to us
He received a few calls from a few upset Panthers players over what happened
What players ?
Would they get a release and follow Griffin to the Tigers
Maybe Griffin can join our club in a non coaching roll so he can negotiate with new signings
While Ivan has to work under Griffin and with the players he signs
A bit like a Gus Griffin relationship

Oh please give me a break.
You have really gone 360\. Men in white coats waiting outside.

Not worth feeding, I wouldn’t even offer a bag of mixed lollies. McQueen has been a bludger here - if he wants to go then we pay nothing!

Most here, when Griffin got topped by the Broncos, were horrified whenever He was mentioned as a likely candidate for our Coaching job,
Now we have some turning him into some sainted Saviour .

Guys,(and ladies) he’s been sacked by the only two clubs he’s ever been a head coach of.
But let’s not take any notice of that.

At least his teams have made the 8\. It's not like Penrith were struggling???

They either get sacked or quit.Very few leave on their own terms

Absolutely not for Griffin as coach. Did anyone hear/watch/read what he said on the way to throwing Gus under the bus?
He basically went on about how bad things were at Penrith and how he turned the junior talent into NRL players. And how Penrith played for the spoon previously year under Ivan before he turned them into semi finalists.
Of course it was Ivan who gave the juniors their NRL starts and had begun rebuilding the club. And they had a disappointing season due to a massive injury toll.
For the record I think Bennett mentioned what a mess the Broncos were in after Griffin’s time there.

Everyone is getting sucked in cos they they feel sorry for him. There are heaps better options out there. Particularly if we get heavily compensated by uncle Phil

There are only two coaches you get rid of Cleary for Uncle Wayne and Maguire.

Otherwise I’d like to see Payten, Hodgo come in under him for 2 years with the view to take over. By then we are a solid club irrespective of the coach leaving.

Either dump him now for Madge or a younger succession plan. You can’t just get a new coach in 2 years of quality who would rebuild it again another way it won’t work.
