Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I’m hearing Benji and Robbie will retire but don’t want to distract from our finals chances. If The Warriors and Broncos win I can see it announced next week for a final round send off.

If that's the case, congrats to both on their playing careers. forever thankful for the 2005 premiership.

If Benji and Robbie both wanted to play on why wouldn't they have already accepted their contracts? I think Ivan may have said he's happy for them to stay, but they'd both be likely to be playing ISP at least some of the season. Even though they could play a role as experienced backups I think they'd both prefer to go out as first team players and not stay on one year too many.

I believe Benji will pull the pin, but Farah will stay one more season. Anyhow, if either of them did stay they wouldn't play much ISP in my view, they would probably be listed as NRL reserves when not picked in the 17, and would be rested so that they could stay injury free. Farah seems a little more durable than Benji however.

Our needs are the same as they were 12 months ago…
We still need a quality hooker that can play 80 mins..thats what Liddle was supposed to be.Farah/Liddle is an expensive compromise both financially plus wasting a bench spot.IMO Segyaro preferable to both
We still need a big hard running back rower..thats what McQueen was bought for
We still need a quality 6 who can steer us around(its beyond Brooks),,Reynolds hopefully is the answer and can stay on the park.Id have rainwater as my backup(impeoved immensely in past year)
We still need a quality centre..that's what Suli was supposed to become(Kelly?)
..and we still need a quality winger..thats what Milne was bought for.
So nothing much has changed other than a questionmark over our signings

3\. Kelly

7\. Cleary

9\. Lichaa

11\. Harawera-Naira

3\. Kelly - Unlikley

7\. Cleary - Even more unlikly

9\. Lichaa - Nightmare

11\. Harawera-Naira - Tell Demps hes Dreaming…

All hinges around whether the player market believeds Coach Cleary is gonna stay for next year and beyond,

Looking at him on the TV yesterday - I got the impression he was thinking " What am I doing here"

Please no to Lichaa. He is not the standard we want for our club. If we signed him, we would be going down the same path of average recruiting that we seen so commonly in the past.

Souths owe us a send off (what we did for our home game with Sutton)
Plus Farah was on of theirs.

Looks like we'll be recruiting another nine if Robbie does hang up the boots. Can't be going into a new season with just Liddle. Who the other nine will be I've got no idea..

Demps will sign any LEB available, the more falafel's hanging in the change room the better

Could do a lot worse my brother.
Lichaa > Liddle.
Value for money wise.

Key areas we should focus on is forwards

2-3 big men around the ruck - Twal to start at lock I’m hoping next year

Marty Taupau is exactly what we need - create such impact and a bit of grunt too along with his offloading abilities you know he’ll get you 100 meters unlike Packer and Mats

Gosiewski from Manly is a player - off contract and would be a great bench option

Terepo from Parra is also a gun who could bring a lot of aggression off the bench

I think as a pack we have a lot of work horses but no one who can dent the line and create 2nd phase play which is crucial in this period of rugby league

In regards to a centre, I like Jack Bird but I wouldn’t pay more than 600-650 k for him to play in the centres - I’m actually pretty content with Mahe and Masters just need some solid depth

Players like

Javid Bowen, Corey Dennis (rate as a solid defender) and George Jennings etc this is crucial especially with our lack of depth in the centres

Now if blessed with room in the cap - I’d go hard for a controlling 7 with Brooks playing off him just doing his thing playing what he sees in front of him the style of footy he thrives off

Nathan Cleary is an obvious alternative

Munster is good and I did recommended him earlier but I don’t see him going to the roosters

Now if DCE is gonna leave Manly and it’s likely especially with him being vocal about his disappointment in the board - and I know he’s not very liked but this is footy our goal should be winning games and gee he’s a player you can’t deny it

DCE and Brooks could be lethal but these are just fairytales unless the recruitment sector do anything with it

Taupau would be perfect, we have plenty of 80-100m props, we need someone who can influence the the game with some big runs.

We also need another centre with some speed, Esan is great but he is destined for the backrow, i think hes had too much time watching Eiso and Woods. Would love to see him hit the line at speed.

If Robbie's going we are deficient in hooker as well, i know liddle hasn't had that much game time but seems to of lost alot of form since the start of the year.

Hope Robbie goes another season - the game turned as soon as he was taken off last night.
Liddell needs one more season of nurturing and physical development.
Munster is s bit too mental and self absorbed for us, let the Roostets manage him, Reynolds will be fresh and firing next year.

I wouldn't let Lichaa mow my lawn. He was overhyped from the get go and is bog average to say the least.

Taupau is a must imo.
Brand man toughens us right up.

8\. Packer
9\. Liddle
10\. Taupau
11\. Lawrence
12\. Taylor
13\. Twal

14\. Matulino
15\. Garner
16\. Clarke
17\. Aloiai

Or there abouts.

My biggest concern is 6\. If Marshall retires what happens when Reynolds pulls a hami? We would not fare well with Gamble for a long stint.

Same thing if farah retires with Liddle.

We'll have Taylor playing dummy half or some other drop kick like Godinet.

This is what concerns me too.
