Showed more talent in one game(semi final) than Fonua showed in the whole season.

Ain't that the truth.

I'd say more than he has shown in his whole life.

LOL settle down. He's got potential to be a better all round player than Fonua, but Fonua had games where he made over 200 metres.

From my memory (it isn't that crash hot these days) he only made 200 metres in one game - he averaged 150 per game.

Some games he had feet like hands - short and not great under the high ball and has a tendency for brain snaps.

I wouldn't be arguing whether he or Momo gets the centre spot - I'd be shopping him.

Never know your luck in a big city - we might find a club silly enough.

Feet like hands? Geez, Russ, do you reckon he could deal a hand of cards with his toes?

Munster is still not signed by the way. His latest brain snap may reduce his asking price and his current coaches patience.

Lol diddy Lolol.
Bellamy is well used to grubby, dirty playing prix with footy ability. He has had them in his team for years.

Been crickets ever since we signed Matterson. One good player ain't gonna help us too much.

One of the biggest problems we had as a club was the amount of leaks we had. Now that we have fixed that people are upset that they don't know what is happening inside the club. We shouldn't know!

I'm not talking about leaks, I'm talking about us being active in the player market and signing some damn good players! Matterson isn't our saviour. There is no way the speculation surrounding our coach is not affecting recruitment.

How do you know we aren't active in the player market?

Just on Fonua….. one of the differences between great NRL players and average ones is consistency. If Fonua could consistently play like he did the game back from being dropped (I think that was the one game he ran over 200 metres and absolutely smashed it), then yes he'd be a beast and you could forgive his regular brain snaps and bad handling etc. Unfortunately he had 1 great game and a lot of very average ones.

The tougher question is WHY does a guy with that potential not seem to reach it regularly. Is he not hungry enough or passionate enough?? How do you get the best out of a guy like Fonua? Maybe competition for spots is the answer but I am not sure that even worked for him this season.

I believe he played with injury in the interest of the team.

We will see. Listening to you two talk Momo up I’m expecting big things next year!

If you’re getting rid of Fonua, who comes if either Momo or Marsters get injured?

Cause we're too busy trying to sort out the coaching issue.

Matterson could cover the centres easy.

It’s not his preferred position, and the last thing you want is to be chopping and changing him every week. He needs to nail down one spot. Preferably on the right edge.

He could but I doubt they want to use him that way. The squad needs another centre/winger signing and it probably needs to lose a 2nd rower or two. Matterson, Lawrence, Taylor, Garner, Chee-Kam, Aloiai, McQueen, Rochow, McIntyre…that's too many.

the DT are saying CONFIRMED Ivan to Panthers for 3 years… I cannot open it but can someone please paste it so we can have a read?

IVAN Cleary is going back to Penrith.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal the Wests Tigers coach has agreed to rejoin former club the Panthers on a three-year deal from 2021.

WIt’s a swift blow from the Panthers, who last week announced Ivan’s son Nathan Cleary had re-signed with the club on a new five-year deal.

The revelation comes a day after Tigers great Steve Roach implored his club to go after unwanted Brisbane coach Wayne Bennett to replace Cleary.

It is unknown whether Cleary has formally told Tigers management of his decision to quit the club after the 2020 season.

Cleary’s future has been uncertain since it was revealed two months ago that he had been involved with high-level conversations with Panthers chairman Dave O’Neill about a dramatic return to Penrith.

Panthers general manager of football Phil Gould gave Cleary his marching orders at the end of the 2015 season, claiming the coach was tired and needed a break.

It is understood the relationship between the pair is cordial but not overly warm.

If the Tigers are able to negotiate a compensation package from the Panthers — either through a financial payout or player transfer — to release Cleary early, it would relegate highly touted caretaker coach Cameron Ciraldo to assistant duties, despite guiding the Panthers to the second week of the NRL finals.

One well-placed source close to Penrith told The Daily Telegraph: “The club and Ivan’s management have formally agreed to terms for ’21, ’22 and ’23.

It will now be interesting to see what transpires over the next two years of his contract at Wests Tigers.

“There is still a chance Ivan will at Penrith next season. Would you want him at your club if he has signed somewhere else? That’s the reality. Penrith isn’t in any hurry. Cameron is organising things as we go.”

Should Cleary leave immediately, the Tigers could start an official pursuit of disgruntled Brisbane coach Bennett, who has been told he will not be re-signed beyond next season.

Former South Sydney premiership-winning coach Michel Maguire has also been linked to the Tigers.

“Wests Tigers have Ivan contacted for the next two years. If circumstances were to change favourably for the club, and they’d have to be pretty favourable, the club’s board would probably consider a release for Ivan,” a source close to the Tigers said.

“If there was a compelling reason to look at an alternative coach then the club would look at it. Until then, Ivan has to coach at Wests Tigers and do a good job.”

Well there you have it! 😱pen_mouth:

The Wests Tigers are on the verge of striking a deal to release Ivan Cleary in the coming days as they move to finalise a long-term contract with super coach Wayne Bennett, potentially effective immediately.

NRL.com understands Cleary could be granted a release to join Penrith in 2019 as the Tigers ramp up discussions with Bennett about coaching the club from as early as next season.

It is understood the Tigers are willing to release Cleary in the coming days, with club officials of the view his position is almost untenable, but they are working through delicate negotiations with Bennett before signing off on their coach's release from the final two years of his deal.
\
\
Bennett still has another year to run at Brisbane, however the Broncos could be willing to part ways with the wily coach after recently informing him that his services wouldn't be required at Red Hill beyond the end of 2019.

The Australian reported on Wednesday that Bennett had expressed interest in the Tigers job. NRL.com understands matters have progressed a lot further this week.

Cleary's potential release from the Tigers would then result in him inking a five-year deal with the Panthers to coach the team which includes his son until at least 2023.

The Tigers have attracted interest from several coaches, including Bennett and Michael Maguire - a reflection of how far the club has come despite modest facilities and a lack of success on the field.

One of the sticking points in discussions with Bennett will revolve around money, with Bennett likely to have to take a substantial pay cut on a deal that is likely to be well less than a million dollars a year.

Given some of the criticism of Bennett in recent years, there's a feeling he may be willing to take a pay cut to still prove he has what it takes to lead a team to premiership glory.

The Tigers return to pre-season training on November 1, while Cleary is believed to be heading on an overseas trip with his family to Bali on Sunday.

Bennett will also be away with the English team for an international series against New Zealand in the United Kingdom later this month.

NRL.com revealed in August that the Panthers were interested in Cleary returning to the club three years after he was sacked by executive general manager Phil Gould.

Nathan Cleary, after playing a leading hand in the Blues' State of Origin series win in his first appearances in a NSW jersey, is considered the cornerstone of the Penrith franchise.

After extending his deal at the Panthers until the end of 2024 recently, the goal-kicking halfback told NRL.com his new contract had "nothing to do with my old man".

"I was happy to make the decision by myself. What happens in the future with dad is out of my control. I don't think I ever thought I was going to leave even with what was going on. I always thought I would stay and it would all work itself out eventually and yeah it did. This is a real happy place to be in at the moment."

That all moved rather quickly, if true. Does show that the club was actively managing this situation in the background whilst the finals were going on.
