No Brooks …. well then we can focus on Johnson or Townsend or some of the emerging halfbacks.
Isaac Moses is a grub and can go and get stuffed.
Not going to spend +$1M on a player who is not a superstar that can guarantee us a 100% performance each time he takes the field. And Brooks is not yet that player. He would be at Mich Moses level which is very much hit and miss.
So if Roosters want to pay that sort of money .... let them .... and instead
i doubt brooks will leave, but if he does we will have to be prepared for it
@ said:@ said:I understand that we can only move as fast as the player will allow but I find it incredibly frustrating that we didn’t have Brooks upgraded, re-signed and locked away before November 1\. Now we have to endure weeks of media speculation as vultures like the rorters sniff around our home grown talent
It will be months.
We could sign Lachlan Lam and get his father to coach should Maguire get a better offer in the next 12 months.
Don’t we also have first rights on Drinkwater should he come back to Australia?

Isn’t Drinkwater coming back

Exactly, so what was the club supposed to do? Hold his family hostage till he signs? It’s a 2 way street, the club can do so much. If Brooks wants to test his worth, they can’t help that.
@ said:@ said:2 yr extension for 1.7 - 1.8 is fair for Brooks imo. He is developing nicely and we forumites tend to think ppl are worth less than what they can get elsewhere.
I assume that we didn’t have any cap space left in 2018, else for mine he should have had an upgrade ?from that, as well as another for the coming season as part of the negotiations as his form certainly warrants such.

@ said:This is a major problem with the NRL… They want a even comp so they have the salary cap etc... However the rich clubs just pay TPA to players and get to pick and choose from other clubs and the NRL just turn a blind eye. What is the point of having a cap in the first place as i believe the TPA should be capped and all clubs have the same amount..
If we lose Brooks to Roosters that is a Joke in itself..
I am in disbelief that the NRL has not woken up to this rubbish and how the fans hate it (Except Roosters / Broncos / Sharks fans of course)

Luke Brooks is the reigning halfback of the year and remains without a deal heading into the 2020 season — the ideal scenario for a young halfback in the prime of his career.
The Roosters have emerged as a contender for his signature, eyeing the 23-year-old off as a replacement for Cooper Cronk who finishes his deal with the premiers in 2019.
Brooks is managed by Isaac Moses, who also brokered the deal for Tedesco to join the Roosters from Wests Tigers at the end of last year.
Tedesco and Brooks are close friends and it’s believed the two are keen to link up again at the Roosters.
The last time Brooks was off contract he was in a tussle with Tedesco, Aaron Woods and Mitchell Moses to remain at the Wests Tigers, and was the only player of ‘the big four’ to stay loyal — and for less than his current worth.
After his best season in the NRL to date and with few playmakers on the market, Brooks will be in high demand, with Eels, Raiders and Warriors also looking at their halves options beyond next season.
It puts plenty of pressure on the Wests Tigers to retain him, given he has been touted as a player the club want to build around.

And so it begins. . .
No offers eh…
@ said:Cannot understand the hysteria regarding an article in the Telegraph!! Brooks was put on a fair contract at a time when we were trying to resign Woods and Tedesco. He was told to improve, which I think he has done.
If there was a danger of him leaving, I doubt he would be on the website modelling the new jersey!! I would like to think the club has learnt from these types of mistakes the last few years.

The problem is the NRL dont want to upset the powerfull clubs. They are like the 3 wise monkeys
@ said:@ said:That heavy hitter is probably Paul Sironen
No doubt Sirro would have an axe to grind, but it smells more like Roach to me. Could be wrong.
Brooks would be perfect for the Roosters and they know it. Imagine he and a Keary in the halves with Tedesco running off them! This is a danger, Brooks and Tedesco are still great mates and know each other’s games well. Tedesco would be in his ear telling him how great it is to be part of a winning team, how much he has improved as a player at Easts and he now has a premiership ring as proof.
I imagine all that would be very tempting for Brooks. We need to somehow wrap him up quick smart or else we will be looking for a new half in 2020\. It doesn’t help that he is still connected to that scumbag Moses. Why would such a nice kid get himself tied up with such an unscrupulous player manager. I can see Mitch Moses & Tedesco being led by this creep, but he and Brooks seem like a mismatch to me. Time to get a new agent son, there are plenty of better and more respectable ones out there.

That thought crossed my mind.
Then I rememebered Moses on many peoples membership cards in '17

The problem is that the 3 or 4 powerful clubs are actually the NRL. Im sure they run the game.
