Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

@Abraham dunno what ‘05 was then.

Just an anomaly?

Precisely, we've made the finals 3 times in our 20 season existence. To make the finals is a rarity, to win the whole thing is an anomaly.

Given the number of players we are supposedly shopping around and the lack of available talent, does it suggest that we are in a rebuilding phase?

I think the answer to that has to be another question, ie 'do we need to be in one?' And the answer, frustrating though it is, has to be 'yes'.
- Is the current squad ready to be a contender to win a premiership? No.
- Would a couple of key signings that can plausibly be made in the next 12 months make it a contender? No.
- Is the squad very young, and therefore careful nurturing and retention over the next couple of years could take it to contender status? No.
- Is there a big clutch of very promising juniors coming through that could materially influence squad quality in the next couple of years? No.
- Does the club have sufficient room in the salary cap to make an immediate overhaul of its playing roster? No.

Last time we needed to rebuild we blew it. We waited from 2013 to 2018 to emerge from salary cap hell, wasting the Tigers career of several of our best juniors for years in the process, and when we did we wasted more or less all the money in one big splurge on a clutch of useless players.

We now need to start again. The first stage is to do whatever's necessary to shed the duff contracts. Anyone who isn't going to be at the Tigers next time we're competitive and is on any sort of money at all should now be considered expandable.

It sucks, and lots of people here will say "I'm sick of always rebuilding" as if that means there is some alternative route to a better future out there. But there it is.

@Dan_Blanco On 24 October 2018, Tapine extended his contract with the Raiders for another 4-years, to the end of the 2023 season

That's a shame, appreciate it. He's had a bad run of injuries of late, hope he gets back to health after next week. I also hope he gets bored of all the (lack of) things to do, and poms he's surrounded with in Canberra - can you imagine the earsore?!

DWZ would be a good signing - personally I like him on the wing as he runs it back strong and can finish perfectly

I think there's another fullback out there we should be targeting hard and that's Matt Dufty - kid reminds me a little of Billy Slater

If Liddle doesn't kick on when Farah retires maybe we entertain Mbye at 9

@teddy23
I’d play my spine like this for 2020
1 DWZ
6 Mbye or Reynolds
7 brooks
9.liddle
14.Mbye or Reynolds

Utility to mainly help liddle out in the middle..unless needed elsewhere on the park

@Jimmy

I wouldn’t play Mbye at 14 in first grade level

1. Matt Dufty
2. DWZ
3. Masters
4. Fonua
5. Thompson
6. Reynolds
7. Brooks

Then Mybe at 9

That’s a really strong backline if you ask me

Reynolds playing with Dufty and Brooks will bring the best out of him I reckon

@swag_tiger

They’ve tried shipping him out last season according to reports

Dragons apparently interested in Reynolds and Packer

Either Dufty or Aitken I’d take off them - wouldn’t touch Lafai tho

Will be interesting to see how he goes there in Origin if he gets that chance. If he can perform well at dummy half in that arena, he will go well anywhere!
