@happy_tiger Out of interest, does the club vet scrutinise potential recruits eg physical and psychological checks prior to signing them?

I'd certainly hope so ...and the obvious high end recruits definitely

@GNR4LIFE $2m will be freed up in 2022 when Nofo, Packer and Reynolds expire - assuming they aren't let go earlier

I doubt we will be offloading Packer to the Dragqueens they've signed Patrick Kaufusi for the rest of the season.

Yeah I think that's a good signing by them. Better than splashing out on an out of form player like Packer that's for sure...doesn't help us much though!

Not sure which club would take Russell, might well be stuck with him.

Particularly when other clubs would know how keen Madge would be to see the back of him. They'd be wanting us to pay the bulk.

What ....are we all missing something

Are we having a Clayton's rebuild ...the rebuild you have when you don't have a rebuild

@Tigerstar If that's the case then Madge needs to find a way to work with him. We have too much money invested in him for him to be just written off. If he's not injured he should be playing. The first 8 or so games of last season he was our best forward by a mile, and I thought he looked good to start this season too. If Madge is a great coach then he should be able to get results out of him.

PBC school. Burleigh Bears, Qld junior Teams from the look of it.

**Six Burleigh Bears products to feature in State of Origin curtain-raiser at Suncorp Stadium**
Gold Coast Bulletin
July 8, 2017 12:00am
BURLEIGH product Jed Edwards will be a marked man in the curtain-raiser to the highly anticipated State of Origin decider on Wednesday night.

Edwards has been named at hooker for NSW under-16s and is sure to receive plenty of attention from five former teammates – Will Evans, Alo’fiana Khan-Pereira, **Ryan Garner**, Nelson Grove and Eli Morgan – who have all been picked from Burleigh for the young Maroons.

Edwards spent the past two seasons at Burleigh before being picked up by Parramatta to play in their Harold Matthews Cup team.

Bears under-16 coach Geoff Eggert expects the situation will foster some friendly rivalry and can’t wait to see his stars in their first major representative outing.

“It is a massive achievement for them to make that level,” he said.

Evans captains the Burleigh side that competes in the Gold Coast under-16 competition and is likely to line up at centre for Queensland.

The 16-year-old entered camp at Royal Pines yesterday on the back of being named player of the State Junior Championships last weekend in Kawana.

“It’s really still hard to believe,” Evans said. “The camp is unreal. It’s only day one and it has already been amazing.”

Evans was born in Perth and spent time in his upbringing at Tenterfield but identifies as a Queenslander. Contracted by the Broncos, he is dreaming of a professional rugby league career.

The Maroons under-16s will have two other Gold Coast representatives in action: Thomas Dearden (Currumbin) and Stepharn Holo (Helensvale).

Never say never i guess

I think the biggest problem with Packer is he won't get a work permit for ESL

It will have to come from another NRL side ....he will be a very hard sell if we don't play him or we will take a major loss

Is he as good as his brother Felise?.

We'll have a tonne of money to spend for 2021 onwards.

At this point we only have the following signed from 2021:

- Luke Brooks (2023)
- Moses Mbye (2022)
- Ryan Matterson (2021)
- David Nofoaluma (2021)
- Josh Reynolds (2021)
- Russell Packer (2021)

Hopefully Packer is not here, and if Mbye can't find a position to call home he won't be either. As much as I like Grub, I am comfortable with him going if we can find a good quality 5/8 or one of our juniors shows the goods.

But that is 40% of our cap. 3 of those players combine for about 2.5 million and they are all garbage

>USSELL PACKER HAVING A GO.
surely there has to be a mediator at the club who can man manage these fellows.i find it hard to understand packer's availability when he hasn't been playing reserve grade and he is not injured.
apart from a Mexican standoff between the two,is anyone trying to make peace between the two.i wonder what mr Pascoe is doing to remedy the situation?
