We would want to find someone who is a big upgrade on Aloiai if he is leaving

If not just more WT's nonsensical garbage

Losing Aloiai would be massive.

Our final spot for 2019 will be an internal promotion.

Are you sure there isn't 2 roster spots left to be filled...?

Hope the internal promotion is Cini, would be a massive let down if we promote players already eligible.

Or Braden Robson

@Sunnycoast_tiger Liddle is already not getting enough gametime. Robson won't play this year, but if we had him in mind to play backup hooker next season then promoting him to the fulltime squad now would make sense so he can start adjusting to the workload.

If this is genuinely true about Aloiai leaving then it's a real slap in the face for Maguire's retention and recruitment. Since he's been here he's managed to sign Jennings (who's been only so so) and re-sign Chee Kam and Thompson. Neither Chee Kam or Jennings were overly important signings in the grand scheme of things. Aloiai however is a hugely important signing. He and Mikaele are the only two forwards we have that give any sort of go forward.

Seems to me like Madge is good at retaining players noone else really wants. As soon as another team comes into contention, he seems to lose. Dallin was the classic example of that.

If our cap is stretched and another club comes in with a significantly bigger offer for Alolai well there is not a lot we can do. If Alolai is chasing the dollars - we have enough players already getting paid more than they are worth.

@Telltails In fairness Aloiai is not the type to chase the coin but he's been on next to nothing for his past deal. All deals are close but the newest external offer is for longer term. Just trying to secure his future.

Which club has offered a longer deal? Are the Tigers looking for some good young aggressive forwards?

@pawsandclaws1 We'd need to recruit from outside as we don't have any hard running forwards in CC. Henry LP would be the closest thing and he's still a couple of years away in all likelihood.

Over the eyars Aloiai hasn't improved much, but he has looked better this season. Can we keep that up or will he fall to the wayside again? 3 years would be a big offer for him. 2 years is about right, could earn a payrise if he plays well too.

@avocadoontoast i dont see it as a madge problem. i see it as a guy whos hamstrung by the previous coach spending the majority of the salary cap on old injury riddled players, therfore limiting what he can offer

Going on Poms comment. It's a number of years thing compared to $$$.

We blast management when they get it wrong signing blokes on long term contracts. So we can't play both sides of the argument.

Are we not prepared to match the length of the other club?

I doubt the longer offer that Pom is talking about is longer than 3 years. If so, I don't see why offering him that long is a bad thing. It should have been a 3 year offer from the start.

Josh has not found the consistency I was hoping would come with experience. If he decides to leave I am confident we have his replacement in CC.

Not sure about the replacement in CC bit, but if we have offered a sensible deal and a sensible term and he walks, I am not that concerned. He is not a player to burn the bank over.

That's the hard balance point isn't it? Lots of fans complain that we don't purchase talented players, and Aloiai has been around without really dominating first grade.

He's clearly got potential but at what point do you make the call that the potential is never really going to be realised? What if releasing Aloiai allows Tigers to buy an established high-quality backrower?

If we had a team of Josh Aloiai's we wouldn't win comps.

Exactly, good if he stays but if he chooses to leave, so be it.

Bingo, when guys like Crichton, Radley, Matterson (notice the theme here,) etc jump out in their first or second year and are among the top players in the game already you have you ask how long do you wait on players to deliver? Admittedly I'm of the same opinion regarding Liddle. He needs to be playing close to 80 minutes by the end of the year otherwise we need a plan B, IMO.
