Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

@Spud_Murphy I would try out Talau at 5/8 tbh. Played all his juniors there, only moved to centre when he played CC for us.

Do we really need another utility player (Brimson) at this point, how many does one team need? Can we not go after specialist players for the positions that we need to fill (no more gap fillers)?.

What makes you say he's a utility? Just the fact that he's been used in more than one position? That would make Cameron Munster a utility too, plus Tom Trbojevic and Latrell Mitchell and RTS amongst others...

I guess the fact that his coaches over the years haven’t even figure out what his best position is on field, gives him the title of a true utility much like Conner Watson... As for the others that you mentioned they have a definitive position on the field within their teams and only get called upon to move from those spots due to injuries. What’s AJs position? does he go into the halves? is he a Hooker? is a he a fullback? who knows...Can we afford to spend the next couple of years trying to figure that out?

He made his debut last year and he's only had one coach being the numpty coach that just got sacked. He's a fullback or 5/8. I don't think there's any doubt at this stage that he's a better fullback than 5/8 at NRL level. The skills overlap a lot between fullback and 5/8 and coaches are often eyeing off the potential to move fullbacks to 5/8 because it's just harder to find a good 5/8 (and Brimson already came through juniors at 5/8). I don't think he's ever played at hooker. He's clearly a 1 or a 6 and I think most were surprised that Brennan was dopey enough to start the year with Gordon at fullback ahead of Brimson.
He wouldn't be my #1 target for fullback or 5/8 but he's a quality player in those positions, especially fullback.

Just interested Nelson, who would be your number 1 targets for fullback and five eighth?

Well I think for squad balance we can probably only afford to spend big in one of the two positions and I'd rather we spend up on a fullback. Joseph Manu would be my first choice target at fullback followed by Papenhuyzen and Brimson (Trbojevic and Mitchell are completely unrealistic in my view...)
At 5/8 I wouldn't mind seeing us promoting a junior like Talau or Madden or going for a relatively cheap option like Cade Cust or Chanel Harris-Tavita. Cust has really impressed me with his composure since coming into first grade, I think he'd be a good clutch option alongside Brooks.
If we could get Papenhuyzen at fullback and Brimson at 5/8 without breaking the bank that'd be great, but I think both of those guys are going to attract plenty of interest and neither will come cheap...

The Titans are starting again with a new coach, very unlikely guys like Brimson and Arrow leave just as a new coach arrives.

We may have stood a chance if they did not sack Brennan.

Wasn't madden the aust schoolboys 5/8th and captain? I would have thought we've earmarked him to take the reins from Benji already

I dare say we're looking at Brimson - FB + Madden 5/8th

I think Madden was the halfback (and captain) and Talau was the 5/8 and I'm sure we are hoping those two develop, but there's no guarantees. Newcastle tried that a few years ago with Cogger and Lamb who were the 5/8 and halfback of the Aust. Schoolboys and it didn't work out too well for them. Jayden Nikorima, Adam Keighran, Lachlan Lam and Sean O'Sullivan were all Aust. Schoolboys halves before Madden and none have really made any impact yet so we might have to play the long game with him...

I'd be throwing the house at Lewis from the Dogs (if we had a house) and moving Brooks to 5/8.

That kid is dynamite - came out on top against Sam (dopey) Burgess earlier in the season - good footy brain, good kicker, good defender and away we go.

Could switch them as well - that would also work.

The kid can tackle like a man possessed. He is no half but in the mould of Radley. He could be a very good lock.

I would say brimson at fullback, Brooks at 5/8 and Madden at halfback. It's a realistic spine for 2021, with Liddle at hooker.

Should get rid of
McQueen
Matulino
Packer
Reynolds
Mbye
along with the retirement of Farah

and buy
William Kennedy Jr (W/FB/Centre)
Ryan Papenhuyzen (FB)
AJ Brimson (FE)
Sione Katoa (HK)
Victor Radley (HK/Utility)
Braden Hamlin-Uele (Prop)
Moeaki Fotuaika (Prop)
Dean Britt (Prop/SR)

and probably still have cash in the kitty.

I’d like to know who was the brain child behind the WT decision to severe ties with Keebra Park...so many quality NRL players from that nursery that we could’ve had

Don't want to sound critical but not only is he playing Union but he is playing school boy union

Long way to go yet young man
