Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

@avocadoontoast With our recent recruitment history, 'huge risk's' have led us to the squad position we find ourselves in today. I see him as a bit of a primadonna and not suited to Maguires coaching style. I am generally suspect whenever a player of his reputed quality is released. Teams don't let quality go, if the door has been opened for him, there's a reason.

Absolutely, but they were huge risks with very limited upside. At least with Moylan there is upside.

We would be the only club and fan base that would consider ct over paps. Case and point melbourne are offering a long term sizable deal. Cant understand why they arent chasing thomo

I don't think anyone is saying they think Thompson is a better player than Papenheuysen. Some people are saying they'd be cautious of giving Paps a big, long-term deal right now because he's only shown a relatively limited skill set for a relatively short period of time. As always, and man I get bored of repeating this, it's about CAP SPEND. On $300k each, I'm sure everyone would rather have Papenheuysen than Thompson. If Thompson is on $200k and Paps is asking for $700k, hmm. Not so obvious.

Totally agree.

The whole point with Corey, as the example, is that he posts good stats. He's not a terrific fullback but he has his moments. He's certainly good value when it comes to salary cap.

Paps also has some good stats but I fear far too many people wound up in the excitement of a fast new player, not thinking long-term about durability and cost.

Paps plays 1 season and people are talking about offering big money. You could potentially buy two Corey Thompsons for the figures being bandied about for Paps. And if he's keen to stay at Melbourne, which makes sense, then you are going to have to pay for him to move.

Yup - Paps, at the moment, is just another Dufty. Not saying his career won't go a different, better, way - but he's not worth a big contract right now.

Moylan for me is a yes but only if the Sharks are paying a big slice of his money next year.. He has had a tough run with injuries this year but if we look after him correctly in the off season it would be worth the risk.. It wont be massive money and considering we struggle to attract good players anyway. When fit he is a great player and works well with the halves from the FB spot.

Not sure about Moylan - he seems a bit of a prima-donna, not so much of a team player as a guy who puts himself first. Usually when talented players can't settle anywhere, there is a personality reason behind it. Swapping out Reynolds for him on our roster, as some are suggesting, assumes we are willing to pay Moylan $800K a season. At that price I wonder if there is a player (or 2) that might be better suited to us.

he does seem very fragile in a lot of things that he does, but he can play anywhere across the backs, and is a good fullback when he puts his mind to it

if Madge can get through to Moylan and get his head right, give him a full pre-season and he goes through the season without any injury troubles or off-field issues, he will drag us into the 8.

vunivalu?

My thoughts re moylan are if he is keen to play for madge he will be fitter then he has ever been (ref benji) which wpuld hopefully eliminate the injuries. Wouldnt pay overs but the dude is talented as and better then what we have right now.

oh

sorry my bad

Moylan - risk against 'reward.
If he wasn't injury prone I'd say yes but he just isn't playing enough for mine. Bargain buy or forget it.

I'd even have a crack at Milford as well if they're was a slight chance he'd move. Play him at 5/8 outside Brooks. Benji/liddle, milf, Brooks, moylan. That spine could be anything. If we could free up some cap with broncs and sharks chipping in, might work.
