Possibly billy britan thanks to a slip of tongue by madge

BB is coming.

They said in the Canterbury Cup telecast about 2 weeks ago he is off to the Tigers.

is BB any good?

Yes. He won NSW Cup Player of the Year. He's pretty small, about the size of Reed Mahoney (Eels hooker). He has a great pass, can tackle, has a running game and most importantly can play 80 minutes. That's about all you need for the fundamentals of playing hooker.

His passing and running isn't as good as Liddle, but his tackling and fitness is better.

I will go the other way. Not really. An average player who is now 25 and despite going through a few clubs is yet to make any impact on the NRL.

An updated version of Matt McIllwrick. We should be aiming higher

Hooking stocks arnt great but looking decent...best guess is
Grub n liddle will be starting nines
With Walters n Britain to be depth and bench players

Isaac Moses took over as John Bateman's manager, Bateman now wants an upgrade or will consider his options, maybe we swap him with Matto, or just get him anyway

Bateman is doing EXACTLY what Matterson is doing............wants an upgrade one year into a three year deal / wants to 'test the market'.

Even worse = he has come out with this in GRAND FINAL WEEK.....at least Matterson kept quiet until we were out.

Why on earth would we want to swap for the exact same type of character?

Apparently this sort of thing only happens to the tigers 🤔

Players can have their Brave New World of 1-year deals. Enjoy the security lads.

This is almost word-for-word the Ryan Matto prototype:
>Bateman still has two more years to run on his deal with the Raiders, but recently acquired the services of player manager Isaac Moses.
>Bateman's deal with the Raiders is worth between $350,000 and $400,000 – with the 26-year-old likely to attract double that money if he was granted permission to negotiate with rival NRL clubs.

Yeah, it is becoming sad.

Bateman seems a great fella, but Isaac Moses will go as low as he can...GF week publicity = let's cash in.

Even a real pro like Lawry deliberately went to the media before our biggest game of the year as he knew that publicity would not have been there a week later.

I guess you can't blame blokes for wanting more...but there are better ways to do it.

It is interesting that a player performs “above expectations” and immediately asks for a contract upgrade, regardless of when the current contract was signed or how long remains.
For this to be fair, clubs should be able to renegotiate existing contracts down for players who underperform?

Yeah right that’s fair.......

Agreed but I'd be filthy at Raiders for this being raised in a grand final week. Ultimately it won't matter, but why not wait until offseason, it would still make news.

We need the NFL 'guaranteed money' style contracts.

I.e. Packer 4 years for 3 million...........but only 1 million of it guaranteed. I.e. a player can be cut at any time, but the club must pay them out an agreed amount.

@dazza65 Agree 100% but they wont change this at all until it effects a big club.. The NRL needs to get there lawyers involved and put sanctions on Player agents as it cannot go one way.. They are happy to accept the deal first up and you need to honour it or get a 9-5 job like the rest of us.. It's your agent fault he didn't get the right deal in the first place..
Or
If a player is deserving of an increase the club can / will re-negotiate with them in due course.
Time for a stance by the NRL

Do the NFL have a salary cap ?

Hahaha that actually sounds like a riot! That sounds like it could be an absolute mess for the salary cap and I like it. You could see someone like Shaun Johnson getting cut cause Cronulla bungled their salary cap so bad that the next year they're gonna be over.

Yes...a strict one.

Basically guaranteed money vs the whole contract gives players incentive to perform AND allows clubs flexibility to adjust Rosters

The NRL will never adopt a system like that hobbo....it makes too much sense

Waiting for Todd to actually do something that might pull the player managers into line just will not happen. They have him over a barrel
