Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Any news on what Maguire is doing over in England?

I'm wondering if the strategy for 2020 season is to strengthen and get settled the forward pack and leave the backs in holding pattern until the 2021 season. After all there is not much talent available now in the backs at this stage but a lot more for 2021. Unless of course an opportunity arises in the player market for backs.

I get shouted down constantly but I'm still not sold on Brooks as halfback and I think 2021 with Marshalls retirement at least provides the opportunity for serious thought on way forward.

Definitely don’t agree regarding Brooks but I’ve been wondering where Maguire wants to head re 5/8 in 2021

Yes, who cares.

Forums have dramatically dropped away the past few weeks. Half the posts are personal, bickering, or people posting stuff they have made up. A real shame.

Lack of news + offseason is a perfect storm for that sort of stuff.

Well, whatever we do- either the half or the 5/8 has to be an organiser- and it on record so far it will never will be Brooks.

Lol my mind went somewhere it shouldn't then. But yes, that would be a pleasant surprise.

Edit: Wasn't there a thread where we had one liners that were funny taken out of context? Or am I getting mixed up and thinking of somewhere else?

It strikes me that 2020-21 seasons for WT will be very much transition seasons for our spine- who is to be our hooker, half or 5/8 and fullback all uncertain or totally unknown.

I think our forwards are now pretty much fine, but backs and wings still a work in progress. Interesting times.

And finally finish of 2021 will see the end of Cleary's high priced panic buys. Mbye goes on to end of 2022 but I dont count him in the initial panic buys.

Looking at Simpkin a little more this afternoon and I am pretty excited about this kid. Reminds me of a young Cameron Smith...

We know who our half is for the team. Just because you have a different opinion than Maguire and our coaching staff doesn't make it true.

Still the 5/8 unknown.

And yes, I can have a different opinion to you and anyone else.

For sure. Brooks is the only certainty going forward so having the money available puts us n a good position.

Do we actually know he is in the UK?

My recollection was that we were all wondering where he was for the Q&A and then someone said he was on holidays but I never saw it said he was in UK. The way I remember it is someone said I hope he is over in England picking up a big forward and it went from there.

Like it or not, with Maguire ensuring that Brooks signed a longer deal, you can forget about not having him front and center.

That still leaves 3 out of 4 spine roles with no certain name slotted against them. At least as Gallagher has said we have $$$ this time to spend if we need to purchase outside of our existing roster.

My intel says he is in Taree

What about the rest of the time he has been away, you wouldn’t stay in Taree for more than a day, unless you were incarcerated

I am still pretty relaxed about the nine once Liddle returns, as he has to get a break sooner or later and have never given up on Latrell eventually coming as part of exchanging some of those dollars.

We obviously see differently, but reckon Luke is ready to take a youngster alongside him, well, other side of the field I suppose and hope that Madden or another is ready to leap in. Of course I would be happy if we signed a good experienced six if available.
