I’ll even go so far as to say Souths recruiting is far worse since Madge left.

Ours has been abysmal since he arrived.

Although hes cleaned up a huge mess.

Can spin it however u want.

Stefano, brilliant, Musgrove, great, Leilua, great, let’s see how Seyfarth and Talau go, could be great, Momo, good, let’s wait and see what else he has in store.

I agree best young talent i the country, check.
Sorting out a hideous mess, check.
In talks with superstars, check.

These are things we haven't done in years.
Added to that he is building cc which means there will be above average dudes stepping up into our first grade spot when people are injured.

He is doing well imo

Maguire is keeping the right one's (Garner Twal Mikaele Talau) investing in youth in the right areas (Simpkin Hoffman Cini Utoikamanu) and not paying overs for over rated players who haven't proven anything...

While still carrying bad contracts from previous recruitment and attempting to get the best from them

Oh ooops..the sky is falling..

This chat is next level funny. We have constantly complained about over paying players. The forum has lost it more times then I can remember. Now we want to pay 500k this year, 600k next year for a dude that cant crack south's backline. Next level funny. For every one saying other teams will get ad, where are they they are free to negotiate as we are. Thats right nobody's biting on that kind of contract for someone so unproven.

Added to that u pay a mil for mitchel because he has done it all and proved himself on the biggest stages, ad for half his price hasnt cemented a first grade spot.

Now I like ad think his handy but im not paying him the same amount for him when i can get a.proven wrecker in by.

But he’s a cedar. Or something

Waiting....waiting....

Souths backline is stacked.
Like 1 of the best in the league.

Those gronks at LU said Goodwin is gonna head back to the UK cos he has no chance to make that backline with all the talent there.

He wouldn't make our backline.

South's is really solid but exceptional i dunno.

Mitchel gun
Aj solid
Roberts solid but goes missing
Gagai solid goes missing
Campbell Graham solid

Apart from mitchel i dont see why they are spectacular

I ain't complaining.
Thats all solid.

Still need some work on our spine tho.
Thats where u spend the big bucks so why we scared to open the wallet?

Mbye + Reynolds on like 1.4m between em.
Shame.

Mbye and Reynolds are Cleary’s mess. I know we need a fullback and a hooker, everyone knows that. I just don’t think Doueihi is a top shelf fullback and I think Madge has eyes on a bigger prize for that position, just not this year. If Douehi was being signed as a 5/8 I’d take him, even at the expense of Benji, but it doesn’t seem he’s interested in that. I think he’s playing the long game with Simpkin and waiting for a gun fullback.

Just as much interest as you fellas had when it was rumoured we were after drinkwater.

Agree Madges recruitment has been pretty good
reynolds and Mmbye were not on his watch he has targeted youth. i hooe Stefano doesnt backflip on us.
No way storm will pay anywhere near 500k for Douehi if they do get him souths will have to kick in 250k for AD if they want JAC in return and im sure there cap will be shot if they do that.

my contact said the Douehi talks have dead set stalled completely and we are almost no chance
JL looks promising but he doesnt know the exact offer tabled to him though

That's disappointing

Not surprising though.

No it's not

We do need to spend a certain percentage of our cap don't we?

Might as well spend it on AD and JL

They will certainly add to what we have

Spend our cash for the sake of spending it, thank god you are not in charge of recruitment.

its clear to see the JAC will be at the Bunnies on $400K at year, and AD will end up at the Storm for $500K a year .. !! We don't need AD we already have aborigine price and true full back in Brad Abbey .. if this guy is right to go come round one he should be our fullback, if I'm happy to stick with CT. We should be concertrating on getting Stefano Utoikamanu across and signing up BJ Leilua for 2020. A big strong powerful young prop, and barn storming big centre that Brooks, Benji or Abbey can run off after he makes the holes in the opposition defence line and pops an offload or two to a waiting runner .. thats what we need .. !!

Adam Douehi is worth no more than 400k, BJ 450k. You could justify 50k more at a stretch.
Not a chance you take either on back ended inflated contracts. If we are talking 600k + walk away now.

I like both but the club has to be sensible and not get desperate. It’s how we ended up with Reynolds, Mbye, Packer on big money.

450k for BJ? Lol. I mean yeah if you could. But you can’t. His metric value is closer to 700k. So yeah 450k won’t happen BUT how good is blind impressions of ones worth

Raiders signed Curtis Scott on a 4 year deal at 400k p.a. He’s 22 and a better centre ask Ricky.
The Rabbits just signed Latrell on 700k.
I’m glad your not managing the salary cap as that’s a mighty expensive BJ. The Metric Value of A BJ depends on the technique.

He’s a good player, I rate him but at those dollars it would be as bad as Reynolds. You don’t pay that sort of money for a centre known for inconsistent play. It would undo all the work Madge has undertaken for short term gain. When we lose a young player that comes through we will regret the expensive BJ.

Latrell is just as inconsistent as people are saying BJ is. Being in a team jam-packed full of Internationals allowed him to play 1 good game every 6 weeks, he won't have that luxury at Souths. IMO Latrell will struggle this year with more onus on himself to dominate.

Exactly.
There were two things I was thinking about BJ.
He is a player you would want on a finals run. While he doesn't turn it on every game he can play and was smashing in the final.
His size. Our backline has this small guy problem. You add a guy with size in there, particularly when you look at Mbye more so then Momo I think you will see our defense go up. At least people will know who not to run at.

Lastly BJ is at least fun to watch. I never ever want the Tigers to loose their flair. Don't care about a premereship if I can't have a heart attack at every game.

The contractual saga involving Adam Doueihi has taken its toll with the 21-year-old granted permission to skip South Sydney's training camp on the NSW south coast this week.

As the Rabbitohs squad, including star recruit Latrell Mitchell, stopped via Batemans Bay on Thursday to visit local residents impacted by the devastating bushfires, Doueihi was 300 kilometres away in Sydney weighing up his next career move.

Doueihi was told last Wednesday by coach Wayne Bennett he was free to explore his options and secure a starting fullback position at a rival club following Mitchell's signing.

After reading plenty of headlines that followed about Wests Tigers and Melbourne baulking at paying his heavily back-ended deal - Doueihi stands to earn north of $500,000 this year and about $600,000 in 2021 - he felt he was not in the right head space to spend four days on the road with his teammates.

Training camps have become more important than ever for NRL clubs when it comes to team camaraderie.

But Doueihi wanted to take the time to clear his head - and hopefully his future - with Souths more than happy to accommodate.

Despite Souths' interest in landing Jai Arrow from the Gold Coast a year early, the club have made it known they are under no cap pressure to move Doueihi on.

It was less than a fortnight ago Doueihi was preparing to wear the No. 1 jersey after initially being told he would be in the No. 6 before Cody Walker re-signed.

Souths and the Tigers have become locked in a stalemate over Doueihi with the Tigers wanting Souths to pitch in their fair share for the utlity's current contract. The Tigers, however, desperately need to sign a top-quality outside back like Doueihi and can not afford to low-ball the Balmain junior, especially after the club lost out to Souths with Mitchell.

It has now become a priority for Doueihi and Souths to know what is happening so they can both move forward with some clarity.

The Tigers tabled their first offer to Doueihi this week. Coach Michael Maguire has always been a fan of Doueihi and handed him his NRL start when coach of Souths.

Canberra's Joey Leilua also met with Maguire and Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe at the start of the week.

Leilua and Doueihi were not required to attend their clubs' TV promotional shoot with Nine this week.

The Tigers have three spots to fill on their 30-man roster - 29 players need to be signed by round one - and have more than enough funds to recruit the Lebanese and Samoan internationals.

Doueihi is seen as a fullback and even a long-time successor at five-eighth for club favourite Benji Marshall, while Leilua would add some size in the centres, a position he is no longer guaranteed in the nation's capital because of the arrival of Curtis Scott from Melbourne.

Canberra have already paid around $200,000 of Leilua's $700,000 deal, and are only prepared to throw in an extra $100,000 to seal the Canberra-to-Concord deal.

Maguire spent Thursday watching most of his star players involved in a secret opposed session against Canterbury at Belmore Oval, a pre-season exercise the clubs enjoyed last year. Josh Reynolds missed the blowout at his old stomping ground because of a minor calf strain.

Meanwhile, Raiders players were impacted by the extreme summer weather yet again when forced to hire several cars and make the three-hour trek home from Sydney on Thursday afternoon.

In town for some promotional shoots, several Raiders arrived at Sydney airport, only to find out Canberra airport had been shut down because of the latest bushfires. The players were forced to leave home earlier this month because of the poor air quality and spent a fortnight on the Sunshine Coast training. Their first day back at Raiders HQ on Monday featured hail stones the size of golf balls.
