What I’m hearing now BJ is signed tigers will make 1 more attempt to grab JAC for 2020, if not they will move forward with douehi.

Heard similar, however it looks as though JAC is holding out for Souths. Has a verbal from the dogs, although that is all from negotiations with his soon to be former management.

Your mail has actually been bang on. Said Latrell was done to Souths weeks before it was announced and said AJ wouldn’t be coming here when it was widely reported he was. What are you hearing about AD?

Not much on AD in the past few days. Tigers position has been fairly consistent. He’s been speaking to a few Sydney based clubs. Looking for a club to give him a starting spot and match his contract. That’s not really news though...

AD has done the Tigers and a few other clubs a favour though as Melbourne were happy to release Addo-Carr to Souths in a straight swap (Souths picking up the first 150k). Fortunately Doueihi has no desire to leave Sydney.

Dragons also offered a player swap for JAC but we’re turned down....

That’s interesting, do you know who the Dragons offered as a swap? Would we have anyone Melbourne would be interested in? If not, then I think we’ll be snowballs chance of getting JAC.

We can offer them cash, which gives them more cap sapce to sign someone they do want.

Nof would be the only one with a remote chance, or maybe a youngster like Talau

Cash and Nofo I could live with if it meant us getting JAC this season, but Talau is a no go zone!

I hope we don't have any whingers on here (ones that said he wasn't the worth the money / not that good / not a FB etc.) lamenting that we didn't sign AD after he goes to Rorters or elsewhere and kills it.

I'm not a whinger but if he goes anywhere else and turns into a SOO fullback and kills it I'll admit we made the wrong decision. I want him here. I also understand that the club needs to manage our cap. If we can't get certain players because they are asking more than what we think they are worth so be it.

Let's be honest though - we've lost Matterson, Moses, Teddy, JAC, Woods and Taupau and our results are no worse from losing those guys.

I don’t think they have made the wrong decision at all by playing hard ball. AD isn’t a $500K player yet. He may turn out to be but he is not there yet. For $500K you are paying on potential. Surely there is a better way to structure a contract eg base $350K and then pay bonuses depending on performance. ie if he makes the SOO team he gets $50K each time he plays. Then the next time you renew his contract it can be upgraded. This to me seems a better approach and is based on actual performance not just potential.

Sorry but this is just the beginning of the backflip for that Stefano kid. I will be pleasantly surprised if he is a tiger in 2021

I would have thought we’d be his most attractive option positionally. Gets the 1 jersey in 2020 and then could take over from Benji in 2021 if he wanted. I guess it just comes down to the money, hopefully something can be sorted quickly.

I think it’s called Greed!

I think it’s a bit unfair to call it greed. Its not like he’s asking for more money like JAC or most other players. He’s just asking for what he signed for.

Regardless of what career you’re in, most people wouldn’t move jobs if it paid less!

Great signing Leilua, pass on AD and go hard for JAC now

I think we could use AD as much as JAC. I also think we need to be careful in relation to signings.

Do we need a winger desperately ? I don't think so. I reckon Nofo, CT, Jennings and even Momo can cover that position.

I'd love us to get a gun fullback. I doubt AD is a gun fullback but maybe he could be a decent fullback and potentially a good 6 when Benji retires.

I'd stick with CT at fullback for now and look to spend big money on a gun fullback 2021/2022. I think he'll be much better at fullback this year and spending 600k on Douehi would be a mistake imo. Better value with Corey on 200-250k

If Benji retires at the end of 2020 we have Mbye, Reynolds, Walters and Madden who can play 6. I just see Douehi as an okay signing who can play 1 or 6 and we have a few of those types already

Where did you get $600 k for Doueihi? I’ve heard Tigers are having second thoughts at $350k? This is in msm.

he is on $550 next year and %600 the year after. He wants 4 x $600 from Tigers. The $350 you saw is his cost to us for year 1 after you deduct what souffs have/will pay him. The problem with Doueihi isnt $350 for this year its 3 more years at $600.

It's a crazy contract if true.

From the SMH article:
“ The outstanding money Doueihi will collect on a back-ended deal is about $500,000 this year and north of $600,000 in 2021.

It is that money that continues to be the sticking point in a move to the joint-venture club. Those figures already frightened off Melbourne, who saw Doueihi as a centre, as well as Canterbury.
Souths maintain they do not have to move on Doueihi because of salary-cap pressure, while the Tigers refuse to pay full freight.”

Basically no reasonable team will touch the AD contract. Souths will have to wear the contract. As much as I’d like the type of talent that AD appears to be, I think the Club is playing it right. I think we have more to be worried about in relation to the Eels and them poisoning the well with SU.

but according to some we are stupid not to. The money is way to much for an unproven player. He has no options unless he takes a new contract. Maybe that was the 4-year thing say 400 a year for 4 years to counter the two big backends

Plus some other players may come good. There will be a couple of juniors come through next year or guys who shine in the lower grades.

The problem with Doueihi is that it's a risky contract for anyone to take on.

Parramatta Eels young forward Stefano Utoikamanu has been upgraded from his development contract and will join the top 30 squad until the end of the 2020 season.

"He is held in such high regard from his peers and the broader Eels Club. We are all looking forward to his contribution throughout this season as we strive to do better than what we achieved last year."

From eels twitter

A Parramatta Eels junior, Stefano is an Australian Schoolboys representative and played in the NSW Under 18s Origin game last year in a man-of-the-match performance.

And they are going to basically go to war with us to get the kid out of his deal IMO. Expect them to use every low down trick they can. Mental health card / teenager changed his mind / wants to stay / can't sleep at night from the stress of having to leave / Tigers preyed on a vulnerable kid when they signed him.

There is absolutely no point in them keeping him this season unless they plan to do so long term also.

What absolute rubbish. The kid has been desperate to get out of there but Parra have been grubby and denied him that chance.

This is the best case scenario for us and the kid, obviously other than him joining us immediately. He might get a crack at first grade at some point during the season so he actually has something to play for and in the end we'll get a more experienced player next season. Now announce him and keep in regular ocntact with the kid throuhgout the season.

Rubbish? Let's see..you honestly think Parra won't at any point apply pressure on the kid? Let's say he has a huge year, they won't say "we want you?". Slimey...Matterson...senior players in his ear.

If you believe that, then you probably believe they behaved ethically with Matterson also. Rumors for months they had sounded him out and told him a contract was waiting...the moment he was released, there they were.

The kid is just that, a kid. I am not worried about his integrity.

But I do not trust the Eels at all.

Hang on, is the same forum that claimed the Tigers were ‘soft’ for releasing Matterson from his contract early now claiming Parramatta are ‘spiteful’ for not releasing Stefano? 🤔

What we have to keep in mind with long term backs signings is for the first time in a long number of years we have a lot of highly talented young outside backs. Talau, Hoffman, Cini, Scolari, Rizk are all either already pushing for first grade or will be heavily knocking on the door over the next season and a half. Unless we're locking in proven game breaking rep players we've got to make sure we have room to give the kids a shot.

Just had a look at some highlights of Scolari. He went to Joeys. If this is him
