Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Then add the fact they have a great young local team, all played together for years and excellent facilities and you retain star players.

Penrith are hardly a poster club for retaining star players - they've leaked talented individuals for a decade. Maybe that will change over time but even now they are still paying for footballers who are having good seasons at other clubs, e.g. DWZ, Waqa Blake.

Get all club payments and TPA to go through the NRL, (so they will actually be real TPAs) and then focus on reducing the corruption within the NRL itself (because no plan is perfect and I bet there will be dodgy deals done there).

They do all go through the NRL - all TPAs are reported and ratified by the NRL. So are all contracts, registered with NRL. NRL knows exactly who is getting what.

If you are talking about the unofficial "shadowy" brown paper bag backdoor carpark deals, there's nothing the NRL can do without evidence.

If I choose to "gift" Harry Grant a brand new house and I have no official affiliation with the Tigers apart from being a fan, there's nothing the NRL can do. Any club with heavy-hitting supporters are going to see that clout impact the roster.

It's like Rusty flying kids up to his property at Nana Glen and showing them his oscars, when Pascoe asks the same kid to come to the demountables and they can have a popper whilst they wait. It's not a perfectly even comp and we should never expect it.

Roosters will see their empire fall, it's inevitable, people will move on, players retire, they won't be able to sustain the magic roster year on year.

Penrith offering Crichton $375k a year for 4 years. I doubt he would leave Penrith but that is a bargain price, I’d throw some money at him come November

Penrith know he’ll get good offers seems like they want to sign him up before November. Hopefully we are smart enough to do the same with some of our guys like Twal and Aloiai

He would have to have the worst agent in the world if he takes that deal. He could be on 375k for two years maybe but if they want him for 4 they'd have to be offering a 1.8-1.9 million

Reports are $1.5 million for 4 years. He would definitely get offered more elsewhere by us, bulldogs and other clubs. Maybe he’s showing loyalty towards Penrith but yeah he would be stupid to take it, could easily bump his price up come November

100%

but if I could give a thousand thumbs up for the working in of a popper I would..

V’landys bending the rules so Roosters can sign SBW. Now V’landys also bending the rules so Souths can hold onto young gun Suaalii so he can debut before he turns 18.

The NRL will never change 😂

Must mean Sam Walker or Kyle Flanagan to make way soon, hopefully the club look into this....

Both players are future stars!

Exactly, either will do, Flanagan being a kicker would be handy, but Walker is supposed to be the next big thing

Roosters will let Flanagan go before they do Walker, they rolled out the red carpet for Walker and had Robbo and Keary sell him the dream. unfortunately he won't be going anywhere, but if there's an opportunity for us to snap up Flanagan I think that'd be a masterstroke.

Won't happen
Will play under his dad at Stgeorge

Yes the emperor's new clothes are slowly being seen for what they are.

It’s all about the environment really.
Crichton is from the golden west and seems to be having a great time with his mates at Penrith.
Being that he isn’t even 20 yet i think 400,000 a year is very reasonable if he doesn’t feel like leaving his surroundings.
Same can be applied to Keary at the roosters.
There is value in enjoying the environment you work in day to day. Most of us would hesitate to take a 30k pay rise if we factor in changing jobs, starting out with new people, learning new systems etc. It’s equivalent in the football world.
Get them young before they are established or not getting reasonable game time or get them latter in the mid to late stage of their career when they are ready for a new challenge.

Alla,
Klemmer, Pearce, DWZ, Blake, Cambell-Gillard, Keary, Frizell, CNK, RTS...
Heaps more i could name but with probably only DWZ being a poor investment the rest have turned out to be pretty successful acquisitions.
The key is picking the right moment to strike.

LMAO hahahahahahaha

Sad but true

Keery to re sign with Roosters for a reported $900,000 a year for 3 years
I just don't know where they keep on getting their money from
That's an extra $200,000 a year on his current contract
Keery and Tedesco alone would eat up $2,000,000 a year
I guess when they say SBW will sign and pay roosters $400,000 to play for the club, that is their way of buttering us all up for what's coming
Upgrades upgrades upgrades
Next will be a Teddy extension

It blows my mind how the NRL want an even comp but turn a blind eye to cheating.
There books like fine and they always will be because they are smart in hiding the truth..
Even ex Roosters players joke about side payments, Golf memberships, Kids private school fees, Rent free apartments, etc etc.... One day someone is going to come out and tell all and it will all fall apart..

Anyway not much we can do about it except keep trying and maybe another 2005 year will come along.
I think the Salary cap should be looked at and maybe moved to a points system to ensure talent is spreed around. Rewarding the clubs who develop there juniors as well would be a great start so clubs like Roosters / Souths don't keep poaching the best talent without putting all the work in.

Dont forget the only Clubs found to be cheating in terms of Salary cap have been Tip offs

**The NRL have their Heads in the Sand and 3rd party deals are a blight on the game.**

So you are against an individual earning money from there own intellectual property..?

3rd party deals can go through the Nrl as well

If a player gets a release but still plays Nrl the 3rd party deal should go with that player as it is ment to have nothing to do with the club

Sign a 3 year deal and leave after 1, then sponcer should pay the remaining 2 years at the new club
If there is a conflict of interest on the 3rd party deal by going to a new club then the 3rd party deal should be made null and void

This will halt teams from dumping players and halt players from dumping clubs as its all about the $

Maybe the Nrl should cap 3rd party sponsors that go through the club at say $1,000,000
Clubs can use this how ever they want

Outside of that players should be allowed to receive sponsorship payments direct, all going through the nrl. But if that player is released early by a club he should be entitled to all private sponsorship money owed and that should follow him to any other Nrl club
This sponsorship contract should be transferable

This would prevent teams like say the Roosters from out bidding for top players

$9,500,000 cap
$1,000,000 club sponsered 3rd party deals which must remain transferable should a player be released early (unless a conflict of interest)

Unlimited player direct sponsorship which would follow that player to any club and this must be a water tight deal

At the end of the day, all payments and sponsorship through the Nrl
No exceptions

Then we might have an even playing field when it comes to the money players receive

Those are my thoughts anyway

Non-affiliated 3rd Party deals do

There is already an allowance in the Cap available to every Club for Club sponsored 3rd Party agreements...

As a player you have to be careful as well .....when Mark Gasnier was playing for the Dragons he took less but was getting paid by 9 on top..when he fired up in the back of a cab ..they didn't pay so off he toddled to French Rugby as the Dragons wouldn't take up the difference..

Oh the memories - Gasnier would have made a mottza advertising for Uber.

We can take solace from obtaining Asu Kepaoa early from the Roosters because of SBW's arrival. There is the possibility Souths may not be able to secure JAC or retain AJ due to Suaali's signing. Souths need forwards, so some good msy come of these approvals.

didnt Harry T try to do something a few years back with Meriton in relation to third party deals and the nrl ruled he couldnt be a tpa as he was too close or attached to the WT's i think this was just after brydens took over sponsorship

The NRL should just look after all the salary caps for all clubs so every contract has to go through them and be approved and then all clubs will be on an even playing field as the NRL knows how much every player is on and how much cap they have left for each club

Jennings probably stays for depth as not on a huge contract even a 1 yr extension at least until Asu or Cini or Hoffman etc are ready especially if we dont get Mommo back.

There's more chance of Jennings leaving than staying.

Hope so. Total waste of a space in the roster and of course $$$$
