Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I seen a story last week on the Sunday footy show saying Pearce and Foran are best mates outside footy
Because they came up through the grades together and are really close

Woods and Klemmer. Moses and Brooks. Curtis Siro and Mitchell Pearce. It doesn't mean anything.

If I'm not mistaken, Mitchell Pearce actually "came through the grades" with Liam Foran, Kieran's older brother. I think Kieran was 1-2 years behind in school. Mitchell Pearce and Liam Foran played in the firsts team for Marist North Shore and won the MCC Opens comp; quickly found out they were selected in Australian Schoolboys.

That 2006 Schoolboys team included Chris Lawrence as FB and Israel Folau. Also - Tolman, Tim Mannah, Chris Sandow, Kevin Proctor, Joseph Paulo, Joel Thompson.

I don't want us to play finals if we just scrap through in eight spot only to be thrashed in the first game. We need to thrash lower ranked teams and beat most top sides regularly. Investing in quality youth like Penrith have done appears our best Avenue for future success.

Remember Broncos semi final scrape in last season.

Signing Foran would be a deadset disaster
He’s one injury away from a nursing home ..
We ain’t that desperate.

Foran isn't going to help us win a premiership or get us closer to the 8. He's been playing in a similar team to us with the dogs and hasn't been able to get them close. Forget him and let's look abit harder.

I understand the concerns with foran but he’s by far the best half available right now and imo we’d be a much better team with him in it. We know our current halves aren’t good enough so do we take the risk of signing someone like foran or do we not sign anyone and resign ourself to not making the 8 for 2021 too?

We need players who are going to plug a hole for us for the next 1-2 years until our bad contracts expire and we can actually spend on quality in the market.

Perhaps Foran is the man in the halves? Our halves don't really take on the line, so he'd be a welcome change and he leads by example...never shirks his responsibility.

What's going on with Brad Abbey?

Saw he was doing rehab with our boys but he’s not signed as a development player or top 30. Maybe he can join our squad next season.

IMHO, Forget Foran (he is not the player he was 5-6 years ago!)
I would go for Shaun Johnson, or Milford (in that order),
they have X factor, and Johnson is on top of that good goal kicker!

We really need to sign Alex Johnson for next year. Our backline severely lacks pace at the moment.
1: Douhi/ mbye
2: nof
3: bj
4: Talau
5: Johnson
6:mbye/ Douhi
7: Brooks

I'm not sure how busted Douhi is playing at the moment, but he has no pace. At least half a dozen times this year he hasn't been able to accelerate through gaps 10-20m out from the try line.

I also think signing Foran for 2 years at about $400k would work, but he has already knocked that back at the dogs. If that was the dogs final offer and we could pinch him for 425k for each I would probably be on board

Milford ???!!!

Milford looks like he's lost the will to live let alone play football.

Johnson is Benji all over again, inconsistent, brilliant one week and non existent the next 3.

We wouldn't get Johnson, even when he is off contract at the end of next year.
Milford is an absolute nuffie posing as an elite player.

Nope i dont see either of those 2 helping us in the slightest.Milf has been terrible for years and Johnson is probably one of the most erratic players i have ever seen. Both of them would want big money as well

The discussion point at why a player would join the wests tigers has appeared regularly on this forum over the years. The teams immediate past history wouldn't be an inducement for a player to join the club.
Michael Maguire's perceived hard ball stance with his players may not be a selling point either.
Paying overs for older players wont be acceptable for stakeholders as well.
the recruitment team sure do have a challenge in front of them- to get value for their money from the players they sign and culling players who need to be moved on.
we will watch with critical interest!

Why would player join Wests Tigers
- Money
- Opportunity to play FG or more FG or sooner
- Work with friends - BJ for example
- Good cultural fit - 11 Samoans in squad with Most joining since Madge - this could be an attraction to young Samoans or players like Milford with freindships and cultural understanding
- Play under a 2x premiership coach with high standards - could be a negative but is prob a positive when you want to ve your best.
- Play for the NZ test coach.

What we dont have
- Facilities - but at least this is on the way
- History of success
- A star player or 2 you want to play with - We need imo 1 or 2 big name star to attract other players. That could def be Grant if we keep him but then prob need 1 more when we free up the cash from Reynolds - we need a top class half/fe but they dont grow on trees

I agree, but they don't want to come here, we offered Latrell $500k more a season than souths did, and he went to souths, Arrow point blank said he wouldn't come before we could get in talks(no loss).
But the fact remains we have a poor record at getting a good signing when there are other clubs in the mix, maybe JAC could be a turning point
