Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Really gonna be interesting to see what they do this off season and next. We’ve got heaps of money for 2022, do you look to sign a good half then on big money considering there’s not many available now? What positions do you target for 2021 and which do you leave to 2022?

Boggles my mind thinking about it too much. I don’t envy Madge and the rest of them for having to do it, it’s no easy task and it can make or break a club as we’ve seen.

No to Pangai,be too worried after a loss he would be on the phone ringing other clubs, let's stick to copycatting the roosters, buying good juniors where possible, recruiting players with the right attitude and ready to buy into the culture Madge is trying to build, followed up by Brown paper bags and premierships

Settle the spine first. Give that priority and the rest will sort itself too. Backs will come, speedy, big wingers will come and hungry forwards too.

I can see Barrett trying to lure Brooks over.

If he doesn’t sign Burton which by media reports is expected but according to an anonymous reporter in the Western Weekender his set to extend at Penrith.

“There’s plenty of people out there suggesting Matt Burton will head elsewhere sooner rather than later, given he can’t find his way into the top 17 at the Panthers. But I’m told Burton is actually on the verge of extending his stay with the club, keen to remain in the system and bide his time waiting for an opportunity in Ivan Cleary’s side. It’ll certainly shock some ‘experts’ when it happens, but don’t be surprised if the Panthers announce a new deal for Burton in the coming weeks.“

Outside back/Fullback with speed is the target with a bit extra set aside if they kick goals..Forwards are set for 21...with decisions to be made on Seyfarth/Eisenhuth/McIntyre..

It's tough with no reggies as the fringe guys are getting no footy ..can all train the house down as much as they like but without regular match footy it's a gamble..

Was only a month ago we were salivating about our prop rotation in 2021. So why waste money on Welch when we could use it in other areas?

Did you watch his performance last night against the Roosters, top shelf.

He is a great player. We can’t afford the contract with someone with two knee reconstructions. It’s too big of a risk for the Tigers.

You’re only at like 5 or 10 percent more chance of doing your ACL again if you did it before, so not that much of a risk.

I just think we’ve got a lot of props for next season. We need a second rower

I agree.
A pack that begins with
Packer and Welsh with Aloiai and Mikale off the bench is just much much better looking as far as I’m concerned.
Backups, Clarke (if he doesn’t retire), Eisenhuth (if we resign him for a lowish wage).
Twal can remain at Lock or join the rotation. At this stage with the way we need to play he’d be better to remain at lock until a similar build player with more skills comes along.
Welsh is 24 by the way.
Sam age as Twal, Josh, Mikalee...

Welch is a terrific player and a good signing but we need a second rower more than a prop. If we could get a second rower who is a work horse and does a lot of the tough stuff to take pressure of our middle men it would be a big boost.

Someone like Tohu Harris (not him exactly but someone who plays like him) who does a lot of work would he really good for us. Garner, Lawrence and MCK just aren’t up to doing that

imo you grab what you can get. Welch is off contract, go for him.

Is there a second rower as good in his position as Welch is in his. Doubt it.

We have Blore, Garner, McIntyre, Aloiai and Lucy. Good enough unless a
great edge forward becomes available.

Beggers can't be choosers.

Just on Pangai.... would we want a guy who has reportedly come out in the media, after the selfish actions he's displayed re CoVid, and said the he doesn't care what his club, the Broncos, do because they're a basket case!!

I disagree. You grab the best of whats available with an eye to the future and overall structure. There is no point prioritising spine signings if there are no quality players available. Grab quality when it is available.

If we could get Pangai for reasonable $$$ (second rower rate) we should grab him.

Would only look at a Hargreaves intimadator type to add to what is already a very solid forward pack.
Pangai would do as well.

No to Tamau.

Number 1 priority is a half who can handle pressure.

It would be great to sign a guy like Christian Welch. Over the last month we have been completely dominated by the forwards of our opposition. Don't know the running metreage of our pack in recent games but I believe the stats wouldn't be great. We simply cannot win games without at least matching the opposition in this area. We need to focus on fixing this problem as it wouldn't matter who our halves are if we don't!

I agree we have a lot of forwards but at the same time if there’s someone as good as Welch available it’s hard to just let him pass by. Prop isn’t a priority but he’s very good

Definitely hard with no reserve grade to sign guys might go down to who the coach knows from other clubs.

You can't blame a guy for being honest

Our forwards normally start off well. Even against knights they held their own for 10 minutes - until Benji gave away a 7 tackle set. If you have no field position and can’t build pressure your forwards are gonna get rolled and that’s on the halves

Our pack could for sure use improving but I don’t think it’s a priority

I think we could use Blore as out enforcer if he keeps developing in the right direction..

I completely get what you’re saying, but you never know who will become available. Doing it either way is a risk, maybe you sign Welch and all of a sudden a gold half is available. Maybe you pass on Welch and end up with no one good. That’s why Madge and co get paid the big bucks though to make those hard decisions

I think we should keep Eiso and McIntyre for next season hopefully for cheap. They are very good depth for the inevitable injuries we will get next season.

TPJ is running out of teams that are interested in signing him.Should WT'S sound him out MADGE could draw up a plan of what he wants from him and insert incentives for achieving his KPI's and also penalties for not if somehow we could get TPJ and Welch we would have a competitive pack and team.

I reckon there’ll be plenty of teams after him. Would be good if no one wanted him and we could offer him a smaller contract, I’m not to keen on him but for the right price I would be okay with it

I agree Russsell, use a buy and refine approach. Welch is a fine player with origin experience. I know the Eels went at him with the kitchen sink. Then dropped him after his injury. He would be a great acquisition.

I think we definitely need a second rower for next season. Luciano is great playing 80 on the left, but that right hand side has tried everyone and no one has stuck out. Lawrence is done, MCK is bog average, Garner is either amazing or super quiet. Maybe the plan is to put Blore there after a full pre season but if he struggles then we will be very limited in that area.
