On JAC as a Fullback...he might have played there in his junior years, but does anyone think with that much pace, he would be wasted at fullback?

If used right his pace could be even more of a weapon, supporting forwards up the middle, getting the ball more often in more dangerous areas much like Melbourne use Paps, not as a ball player that often but as a running fullback

The big question is whether his positional play and defence as a fullback is up to NRL level

I can see the attraction to playing him there, but it depends on the money we pay him. If it doesn't work out at FB, we've got a pretty expensive winger on the books.

I like JAC and would happily trial him at FB, but a little concerned about "Fullback Money" if it doesn't work out...You'd think he would command more than Doueihi and ultimately, this is a work in progress at best.

You wouldn’t be giving him anything over $600k and that’s the max. At around $500k he can play fullback, if he’s good enough he earns himself an upgrade if not then $500k for one of the best wingers isn’t that bad.

Doueihi is on more money...see the problem?

Maybe, but we are not paying ALL that money, Souffs are paying some.

So let me get this right .. for 2021 we are after the following:
Proctor, Bunty Afoa, Staines, JAC, Hastings and Burton .. ??

Yes - but we are in competition with Canterbury for all of them. :face_with_rolling_eyes:

Jason Saab too apparently.

But no one thinks we will get all of them. If we got two of them, that'd be a good result considering our position. (I'm excluding Proctor)

STORM AND TIGERS DISCUSS SECOND SWAP OVER THE FOX

THE Melbourne Storm attempted to manoeuvre a swap deal with the Wests Tigers in relation to NSW and Kangaroos winger Josh Addo-Carr.

The only trouble was they asked for the Tigers best emerging player in Tommy Talau.

The Tigers are looking at Addo-Carr as an option to play fullback but weren’t keen on the Talau swap. The other swap deal between the Storm and the Tigers centres around young gun hooker Harry Grant.

Sadly for Tigers fans, the chances of Grant remaining at Concord appear between slim and bugger all. Grant will be back at the Melbourne Storm next season.

Absolutely NO to a Talau swap. Melbourne are kidding.

Ok. Grant goes back, we have Lids. Problem solved.

I'd throw in Talau for JAC, if they threw in Brandon Smith as well.

This is a tough one
JAC is already proven,we know exactly what we would get
Talau could be a future international, possibly a big hard running centre/5/8 who knows

No to Talau for JAC? Really?

I really like Talau but trading an international winger for a centre that is mostly potential (albeit high potential) at this stage seems like a good swap to me.

I'd obviously rather we swapped Mbye or Reynolds but that ain't going to happen.

Why do we need to trade him for JAC?

Because JAC is still contracted for next year and the Storm aren't idiots like us who release players for no benefit.

If the Storm have already agreed to release JAC for the 2021 season then why offer a player for a swap deal given that JAC will be released regardless. We have to tempt JAC with an attractive offer not appease the Storm given they have agreed to release him to be closer to his family.

They haven't agreed to anything.

According to the following article Storm have reluctantly agreed to release JAC for next year:

All the reports are that they will release him but require something in return. They haven't agreed to release him for nothing (and nor should they).

Let’s not kid ourselves, JAC is a much much better player than Talau. While he’s a great prospect, we need proven, origin level game winners.

Offer them Momers first. Worst case they take Talau but if that’s our only way of signing JAC we gotta do it.

Storm are a strong enough club to leave JAC in reserve grade until they get compensation from a rival club if it comes to that. Doesn’t seem like
JAC is kicking up a stink about it either

100%. I'd do that trade every day of the week.

The Storm may want something in return but this does not equate to a player swap with the Wests Tigers as outlined in my original post. The extract below from the article I quoted infers just that:

"Melbourne remain determined to ensure they're not left in the lurch with Addo-Carr's premature departure and are seeking players in return."

Reports over the weekend suggested the club could be offered former NRL star Curtis Rona, who is currently playing rugby in England but is understood to share the same manager with Addo-Carr, Mario Tartak."

We’ve been crying out for origin level players, someone with genuine pace and a match winner and he’s all of that. Obviously would prefer to hold onto tommy but we gotta get some high level players here somehow

Tommy's a potential franchise player and we haven't had a world class centre since Rowdy had his horror run with injuries. I want JAC of course but we could easily go after Saab or Johnston and not have to worry about giving away one of the players that we've earmarked as the future.
