Yep, Tamou ticks all the boxes for a Tigers signing. Old? tick. At the end of his career? Tick. Cant get a starting spot at his current club? Tick. Needs a final end of career payday? Tick.

Sounds like a Tiger to me.

haha that made me laugh 🙂

he does indeed tick all those boxes.

I'm confused .....why does he wear the 8 jersey every week if he is off the bench

Not sure. Maybe because he has the (c) next to his name? He was listed to start against us, wearing 8 but came off the bench. I dont watch all of their games.

I know last year Panthers fans wanted to get rid of him.

Turns out that Tamou is a mate of mines BIL and is apparently a quality bloke. Still the wrong kind of signing for mine.

Who lead the forwards then ...may as well have all the superstar juniors with no leaders ...hang on ...another club doing that think they are based in SEQ ...how are they doing

Where are the 34yo props at Melbourne, Souths, Parra?

Tamou is 31 for starters as is Jesse Bromwich .....David Gower is 34 ......JWH is 31 ....stay away from those 31 year olds lol

These guys go good in their systems in successful teams. Rarely will a prop that age move to a weaker club and have the same impact. They’ll bring leadership qualities but someone like Tamou won’t offer a lot on the field for us, and he wants a 2 year deal minimum. Not worth it for me.

He doesn't have to produce 200 metres and 50 tackles ...he needs to be out there telling the pack where they need to get to by the end of the set .....producing huge hit up when the side is struggling to go forward ...even be strong off the bench for the young fellas and set an example on field and off field with his training and work ethic

That’s the thing we lack though is more guys making big metres and having impact. Tamou is not a damaging ball runner and he doesn’t have an offload he’s Twal except he would cost more and has no upside.

Spot on... You ask every coach or ex player and they will say you need a balance and the leadership group is the key.. Look how young Panthers are and clearly there seniors (Tamou included as Capt) are doing a great job mentoring there juniors.. Its a no brainer for me as its not like we are going to sign him for 4 years on 800k...

Again, look at Parra, Souths, Melbourne, where are the "old" forwards? Leadership does have to = old.

I understand what you and others are saying about Tamou being our "leader", but two years ago (when he was 2 years younger!!) he was rubbish at the Panthers and they wanted him gone. This year he is good in an unbelievable pack that isnt relying on him.

Tamou is EXACTLY the type of purchase that Tigers have made for the last 10 years. He is the next Matulino. We said EXACTLY the same warm fuzzy things about Mats when he came and to his credit I think Mats always put in but guess what? He got old and his old legs didnt have what we needed.

Tigers do need leadership, but we also need strong legs and bodies. Look at Parra, Brown is their leader, NAS at Melbourne or Welch.

If a player is not available that genuinely ticks the boxes of leadership AND performance, then we wait until one does or try to manufacture one from within (ALioia), not have another old player on the books weighing us down. Lets stop making the same mistakes year after year.

Mate you are correct and I agree..
I was looking at it like a last resort if we couldn't get a younger version etc... ***If we cannot get someone I do still think its a risk worth taking for 2 years as next year is looking like the same as the last 9 years unfortunately. I would rather have Tamou there with the young guys instead of a Packer or nothing..***

I understand this, and I understand the whole "we need something.....anything" sentiment but this is the mistake we have been making for years. THere is a strong chance that in two years we are looking to sign *insert semi retired forward* to replace Tamou.

Tamou is just another Packer or Matulino. Past his used by date, won’t put up good numbers for us and wants a long deal to make up his retirement fund. Would rather pass, spend money on some strike in our back line and focus on signing some forwards who are in their prime to lead us in 2022. Would like to sign Bunty Afoa as for next year if we get any forwards

Where are the 34yo props at Melbourne, Souths, Parra?

James Tamou (born 13 December 1988)
Jessy Bromwich (Born 31 May 1989)
Damien Cook (born 23 June 1991)
Reagan Camiel Gillard (Born 27 July 1993)

Soooo not much difference there and nothing much more appealing out there that’s off contract.
Only other solution is bring Woods back or buy our contract of so one like Jackson from the bulldogs.

We need props to go forward and give the backs space. If Tamou can provide that to us on a fair contract great. Personally I would steer clear of any player older than 30.

We've had Matulino, ET, Packer and McQueen with plenty of experience and it hasn't helped at all.

We need a pack that can roll over the opposition and defend like demons. Experience shouldn't even be considered a factor. We need proven performers that are being paid fair dollars or upcoming kids that we feel can contribute really quickly.

Tamou is the type of player we buy and it screws our cap up for years. Bunty is the player we don't buy and who will probably contribute and not cost a fortune. I'd prefer Bunty for sure.

It's pretty simple - all the club should care about is cost and performance along with having the right character for the club. We don't need loose canons.

The POM mentioned we need a forward to help out Aloiai. I don’t think that means we need a veteran, but not a rookie either. Perhaps someone in their mid to late 20s with 100+ games under their belt. An issue I have with brining in too many older players from different clubs is that those different clubs have different ideas about what it means to be successful. When those players are vocal, it can create inconsistency in the messages being delivered and in playing style. We see it with the Dragons... instead of Tamou I’d prefer someone like a Welch who comes from a similar style of coaching to Madge in Bellamy and will come in and do his job.

BTW I just read that Toby Rudolph and Peter Hiku just signed extensions with their current clubs, so we can strike them off the list I sent around earlier... not that we were interested anyway.

Bunty Afoa

Bunty Afoa is on our radar as far as I know but we still don’t get that experience and leadership.

If there’s no good options for a forward leader who’s in their prime for next season then we should just spend the money elsewhere. Chase JAC and Staines who can stick around for our future and chase forwards in 2022 when heaps are off contract. That to me seems a much better option than holding up our cap in Tamou who I don’t think will offer much.

Bunty could turn into a great player I reckon. Reports were warriors would chip in for him next year too. I’d be happy with signing him, solid young player who had impact off the bench running the ball, would definitely improve our bench

Panthers were not a winning team until this year as they finished below us last year.
We will desperately need experience the next few years as we have a lot of younger players on the books.. he is not the capt of Panthers for nothing. worth the go to me.

Tamou was head and shoulders the leader at Penrith in 2019

And complete rubbish in 2018. Which do you reckon we get when he is 33 or 34?

Well Campbell Gillard was rubbish then also and now you’d break the bank to sign him.
I’ll trust Madge to make the right call but I bet that his experience tells him what’s most lacking in our pack.
No matter what age it’s the player that has the hunger to Lift & drive people When their heads are down. And I believe our current roster does not have one player that can do that.

Let's make a distinction here guys. Signing older props has not been our problem. Signing older props on massive, long-dated, deals has been our problem.

If Tamou comes at a good price for a year or two and is there for depth and leadership, that could be a smart move. We're going to need more experience.

Yes we need the players you mention ..but they aren't available and won't come ...you get Tamou at the club and future recruits will see what these juniors can do by the time they are available

Its all about a few steps at a time ...not waiting until 2022 and splashing money everyhwhere ...because if we finish 13th in 2020 and 13th in 2021 players are going to avoid us like ebola

I'd be signing griffin as assistant coach.
We need someone who can complement Madge and I’ve heard his players love him, similar to Bennett.

Are you griffins manager ? Because the word on the street prior to him getting the sack at the riff , was that he was like a school teacher and constantly treated the players like children . There was a huge player revolt . He’s apparently a football savant though , with a great eye for the game .

All spread by the Cleary supporters - no doubt.

Did Griffin set up the pathways at the Panthers? If so he did a first rate job?

Hard to know for sure - but I would think he along with Gus set it up and he did the nurturing.

I'm not sure who brought it up on the forum but the Central West pathway program(for them) was implemented by Pascoe, which has also been highly successful for them IMO.

But agree it's their state of the art COE and their coaching staff that has been second to none - for junior development.

Tamou knocked back Penrith because he wanted a long deal and good money before he retires. Doubt he comes to us for less

Would rather pass, spend money on some strike in our back line and focus on signing some forwards who are in their prime to lead us in 2022. Would like to sign Bunty Afoa as for next year if we get any forwards

Bunty could turn into a great player I reckon. Reports were warriors would chip in for him next year too. I’d be happy with signing him, solid young player who had impact off the bench running the ball, would definitely improve our bench

Bunty is an impact forward, not the type of guy to play big minutes or produce big running metres. He wouldn't really make any difference at all imo.

Bunny sounds like LL
