OFFICIAL Simon Dwyer [Discussion]

He definitely should not have been walked off, the extent of the injury wasn't known. I know the procedures aren't quite up to standard at the moment, but surely common sense should've prevailed in this matter? It's not like using a stretcher/medicab uses up massive resources.

Maybe these procedures prevent this from happening, but i'm still a bit miffed by it all.

At least the initial scans show no damage to the shoulder/neck.

as long as he is ok.
if he can play again next year, then good.
if not, so be it.
if you were given choice either play footy and cause irrepairable damage for rest of your life to your body/ or give it away, so you can have a healthy life.
which would you chose?
IMO simple answer, then footy would lose out.

Watching Dwyer stagger off the field on Friday night was one of the most distressing things I've seen on a footy field. According to media reports, our medico's reason for not stretchering him off was that he wasn't concussed. HELLO EINSTEIN - he may not have been concussed but he couldn't bloody walk!!!

I just hope he's OK and that there's no lond lasting nerve damage

Tell that to ben ross!

are we sure he is out for the rest of the year, I heard a medico speaking and he was saying that the recovery process was varied, that it could be a matter of a few weeks or as long a number of months.

I was pretty disgusted in this. Bad move by WT, should have been stretchered off. My misses is a nurse and she was screaming at the TV totally horrified at what they were doing.

Wests Tigers can now provide an update on the injury to Simon Dwyer.

Simon suffered a brachial plexus injury as a result of a heavy impact collision with Bulldogs forward Michael Hodgson at Campbelltown Sports Stadium last Friday night in round 16 of the Telstra Premiership.

The impact has caused significant nerve damage to this area between the right shoulder and neck.

The nature of this uncommon injury is that it will take some months to determine the full extent of the damage to the nerves and to assess the rate of repair to this damage.

At this stage, the medical advice is that Simon is not expected to return to the playing field this year.

Simon is under the care of a highly qualified medical team and is determined to follow the rehabilitation plan that has been put together for him.

Wests Tigers will continue to provide support to Simon in his rehabilitation.

that is no good, hopefully he is alright long term

best wishes Simon.
I agree, do not worry about footy.
does not matter how long the road to recovery is.
if a further diagnosis, means for Simon to be giving away playing footy then who cares.
he has the rest of his life to think about, and his health and well being are far more important than playing footy.

I wish you all the best Simon on your recovery, can't wait to see you back on the field. Good luck
