SIMON DWYER TO TAKE FIRST STEP IN REP CAREER

Simon Dwyer will take his first step towards what could be an illustrious rep career in Albury this Friday night.
The boom Wests Tigers second-rower will make his representative debut when pulls on the City jersey against Country.
He will be joined in the City colours by Wests Tigers team-mates Robbie Farah, Keith Galloway and Liam Fulton. Chris Heighington and Tim Moltzen will line up against Dwyer for Country.
The 22-year-old has developed into one of the best young back-rowers in the NRL with his wide angle running and ability to offload in a tackle.
His bone crunching hit on Roosters prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves in last year’s preliminary final saw Dwyer thrusted into the media spotlight as a big hitter.
Contracted to Wests Tigers for a further two seasons, Dwyer’s game continues to develop under Head Coach Tim Sheens as he continues to learn the trade from representative second-rowers Gareth Ellis, Chris Heighington and Liam Fulton.
“I was shocked to hear my name read out but it is pretty exciting to make the team,’’ Dwyer said.
“Being picked for City is a great honour and I just want to do my best in my first senior rep game.
“You are only as good as the players you play with and my selection could not have been possible without the great forwards we have at Wests Tigers.
Farah will captain the City side for the third consecutive year and says Dwyer certainly can make a statement with a strong showing.
“Simon has played some really good footy for us not only this season but throughout last year,’’ Farah said.
“He is developing all the time and being picked for City is a just reward. Simon will come back a better player for the experience of being in a representative team.”
Galloway is confident Dwyer can handle the rise in class.
“Simon thoroughly deserves his selection. City-Country is the next level up for a young footballer and is always seen as a stepping stone to bigger and better things,’’ Galloway said.
“For him to do it in his second full season of first grade is remarkable. Simon has been exceptional for us and this will be a good chance for him to play with some high calibre players.
“His selection is definitely good for the club and shows what good young forward talent we have at Wests Tigers.”
