Watching some old footage of this lad…
Is there any current NRL player with a comparable build to this guy?

His frame was close to the most perfect for the second row.

It's unfortunate what happened to this guy because he would have been the greatest second rower to ever play for us... As well an NSW and Aus rep.

Nostalgic thread / discuss.

Saw him flying the drones at training in the TV series the club made this year.

Was such a big loss for the game.

SBW comes to mind

Yeah. He had that aggression to his game.

Ran awesome lines and a hard hitter.

I was shattered for him.

Would have made NSW easily

A guy called Gareth Ellis says hello…
But yeah Barb had the world at his feet before the injury...

At one point in time we had the best second rower in the world (Ellis) and arguably the most promising one (Dwyer).

He would still be playing now and in his prime too! What a beast he is. I remember Sheens comparing him to Clyde.

Will he ever get use of his right arm again? Such a sad story

In 2009 Benji had Ellis, Lawrence and Tuiaki on his left, Dwyer and an in-form Ayshford on his right.

Then within 3 years Tuiaki career over, Dwyer career over, Ellis returns to England, Lawrence dislocates his hips / hamstring issues and loses his centre strike ability. Ayshford loses his form.

Such a devastating attack we had at times - power, speed and hole-running, and essentially half that strike rubbed out through serious injury.

Yeah I think Dwyer was thicker /more solid… Close though.

Don't see the Tariq comparison. Dwyer looked like he was made of granite...

Heart breaking when you break it down like that.
Not to mention Moltzen before he got broken.

Rob Lui was carving up too. Then he bashed his Mrs.

After Dwyer's debut I made the call that he was a once in a generation player. I still stand by that call. Was gutted about what happened to him and Tui.

Tigers did a great thing offering him a role after the injury. Him, tuiaki and Lawrence all had massive injuries and we looked affter them as best we could

Credit to us I’d say

It's not a great comparison But Simon's injury where his nerves were crushed were similar to what happened when cricketer Phil Hughes was struck in the neck by a fast ball
