Simona on the move

Still dont understand why we dont just sack Lovett and resolve the salary cap issue that way.

Maybe there might be a backlash from the NRL if they terminate Lovett's contract or probably more likely his contract value is not big enough to get them out of the hole

The irony, can't sack a player for bad behaviour, instead we have to move a better player (IMO) on.

I can't recall anywhere recently that the club has said that they have any immediate salary cap concerns, requiring the release of a player and until they announce that they do, I don't believe it. Secondly, as far as I know, our salary cap issues caused by backloading contracts under previous administrations were always going to end this year - that means at the end of this year we should have no backloaded contracts to pay for players at other clubs and I think that the NRL has now banned these contracts. This does not mean that players won't be moved along with the club paying part of the contract, if they deem it to be advantageous to the club.

Can we all just calm down and cease condemning the club on the basis of rumours. If they turn out to be true and it's the fault of the current administration, go for it but remember players are commodities for clubs and they will horse trade to their advantage. The reverse also applies and players will continue to use clubs as ATMs to the greatest extent possible. It's just business, people.

Or there is no salary cap issue at all.
Simona hasn't been all that good under Taylor, He may just think that there are better players out there.

Agree with an earlier post. If we are over the salary cap then there is no way in hell that the contracts of Suli, Idris and possibly Taylor would of been passed over the line. If the NRL didn't or doesn't know that we are over the cap then there would be a full blown investigation in light of what happened at Parra last year and this is what we would be reading in the paper. Not about a standard transaction of a player to another club that happens AT EVERY OTHER CLUB!
I'll guarantee it's a beat up.

I think people are worried because the club hasn't come out and denied that he is being shopped around.

And this comes back to Pascoe saying last year that unless there is any truth to a rumour in the media that the club will no longer waste its time defending itself from rumour and innuendo. Seems pretty clear to me…

The club is certainly not going to come out and tell the world they have a sizeable cap problem. It would put them in a bad place when trying to negotate a fix to their problem.

As for why they still have cap problems who knows, they may have been knocked back on something or had not factored in a discount that no longer applies or the Et and Idris deals pushed them back in a hole.

Most if not all of what we are hearing at present would be coming from player managers releasing info to the press but you can bet you bottom dollar it is because we are trying to move a player to ease cap pressure

While I think there is no cap issue and it's an excuse to free up for signings, sometimes these things can be the nrl deciding a tpa is not a tpa and making us add it to our cap.

Or maybe as great Player Managers do ..it's about getting a maximum deal for their Client….negotiating with any Clubs...

Lets not forget this over the Cap rumour 1st surfaced when Massoud announced to the World that Kyle Lovett was Immediately told to pack his bags...I would be pretty sure that came from a players manager...

Well if it's not a cap issue it's dumb decision. Like we can afford to offload Simona with the depth we have in the outside backs.

Are you saying #savetimsim manager has an offer from another club for higher money, so the player manager is creating noise in the media to apply pressure for 1\. Match the offer and up-grade my client now; or 2\. Release my player so he can earn better money?

Player Managers wouldnt do those type of things surely?

The timing a few weeks out from the start of the competition also is very poor. You can't help but think of the impact on morale in the squad when it is known players are possibly being offered to other clubs.

Could be the case Watto. But the noise from the dodgy scribes are saying that they want us to chuck in,so they can take Tim off our hands. Hopefully it's just negative press aimed at the Tigers again. Business as usual from 2017\. Can't wait for the first trial to start so attention is taken away from these play roster issues and more focus is on football.

So has there been any reports from any remotely reliable sources? Has the DT even run a story on this or is it all based on the mole and lurker?

So far as I'm aware there has not been a story from a reliable source. Nor has there been one from the Telegraph.

I'm here all week folks.

I was alluding to the same thing in my post

Yeah, but if even the Errorgraph isn't reporting it usually means it total BS.

A "reliable source"- is there one ? If there is he/she seems to report very little compared to all the unreliable sources.

These dealings are usually very delicate and the club usually keeps extremely tight lipped about them to they are done and dusted. So do not expect to hear a whisper from the club, of course the player managers do not play by the same rules.

I do not have any inside info but I am convinced there is a player being shopped around and at this late stage in the offseason I can only guess it is cap related, unless they have another player like Copley in their sights

I agree but imo Copley is not as good as Simona
