JT’S BLACK EYE BRINGS BACK MEMORIES
WESTS Tigers coach Jason Taylor was hounded about two things — how he got a black eye, and why James Tedesco was heading over to the Auckland Nines. We can tell you JT copped a stray elbow while playing touch football earlier this week, while Teddy was simply crossing the ditch to continue working with the club’s strength and conditioning coach, Marcus Kain.

Meanwhile, centre Tim Simona could be part of a swap deal with the Sydney Roosters who are looking to off-load Dale Copley.

But more so here's why the Simona for Copley trade won't happen, look at about halt way into the article its say Simona is on $300K where as Copley is on $400K ?? if strapped for cash why would we trade for a higher price player, doesn't work out. Also I read on here that Rod griffin has been offered a release back to Ipswich, that will free up a little more $$, hopefully.

From The League of Titans Forum:

TITANS EYE TIGERS GUN - IMMEDIATELY

The Gold Coast are ready to pounce on Samoan international Tim Simona.

The Titans have emerged as a possible saviour for the Wests Tigers’ salary cap concerns and are ready to make a play for the 25-year-old centre, who has been shopped around in recent weeks.

The Tigers reportedly need to shed a player before the start of the season and Market Watch can reveal Neil Henry is ready to strike.

With a vacancy for an outside back in their top squad, the Titans have been in talks with Roosters back Dale Copley and while the door hasn’t closed on the former Bronco, Simona has emerged as their first choice.

On a deal worth around $300,000 a season at the Tigers, the Titans are exploring several scenarios which would see him make a move.

They range from offering him an extra one to two seasons which could see him at the club until the end of 2019.

The Tigers would however need to contribute to his salary this season.

The 25-year-old is off contract with the Tigers at the end of 2017.

With new recruit Dan Sarginson able to play a host of positions in the backline, it’s understood Simona would slot into the centres with Konrad Hurrell.

If a deal can’t be struck, look for them to continue talks with Copley, who is on around $400,000-a-season at the Roosters.

Copley still has two years to run on his deal but has been given permission to negotiate with other clubs.

Well, here's the strike left centre we've always wanted. Would look great outside Elgey.

Oh Great! going by that Stooge we have to give the Titians our best centre and we have to pay them for it as well.

Just like in recent years half our cap will be going to other clubs and we wonder why we continue to struggle. Every year we are told that our cap mess was caused by previous regime and we should see our way clear in 12 months and the years roll on and we never seem to be able to get out of the hole.

Very hard to be competitive with one arm tied behind your back and one leg not working. Call it madness but last week forked out 410.00 dollars to renew, maybe I should have asked for 50% discount as we have 50% less to spend on our team

UR 100% right, M/S ( no idea ) GO told us 1 and 1/2 years ago we would be out of the woods in 2017 and here we are still shovelling shit up a hill we will get to the top of, these people seem to say what ever it takes to keep the majority happy, we really need a voice to say we have had enough of our players playing elsewhere while we pay for them, TIGERS grow some b**** be be like the cows and broncos and say no ur going nowhere.

That makes zero sense as the club are the ones allegedly shopping him around. He hasn't asked.

At the moment we would probably be paying 1m to let former players play against us(Robbie and Sirro).Rumours suggest we still have to offload another player and subsidize them off course. How incompetent are our management team to sign players during the off season knowing they are over the cap.Morons

It makes you wonder if our cap mess will ever be sorted

If we need money why couldn't we try in the 9's

Salary cap is paid by the NRL and is completely separate from club revenue. My understanding is that Tigers were profitable in 2016 so we don't really need it as badly as some other clubs would.

I'm surprised the NRL would allow Taylor's and Idris' contracts to be registered if we are over.

Finally I agree with everything you just typed…

Are some components of the media perhaps getting mixed up on the meaning of "salary cap issues"?
Interpretation #1 - Tigers are over the cap by $X for 2017 and need to shed a salary right now.
Interpretation #2 - Tigers want to do long-term deals for a value that will put them over the cap in the near to long future.

I may have missed it, but I haven't read anything concrete from a reliable source that Tigers are indeed officially over the cap in 2017.

Maybe there's talk of upgrading current contracts this on top of new deals for next yr like what was done with Suli.

How it works…is Simona is off contract at the end of 2017... They tell him they might not be in a position to renew his contract and if they do so the money will be reduced but we might be able to arrange a 3 year deal for you at another club. So under the circumstances most players would jump at it. Some players might elect to play out the season and hope there is plenty of interest, but most would take the security of a extended deal

Most clubs do it but we are the experts at it. To me it's a crapy way of doing buissness but maybe there are no other choices. Like Farah,Siro,And Bryce Gibbs, they could all stay if they wanted to,but if a club starts to shop you around what's the point in staying if you can get a good deal elsewhere

Still dont understand why we dont just sack Lovett and resolve the salary cap issue that way.

Maybe there might be a backlash from the NRL if they terminate Lovett's contract or probably more likely his contract value is not big enough to get them out of the hole

I'd say your pretty much spot on - its the way all professional sports are these days - the NRL is only just catching up to what has been happening for years in other sports.
