Despite a short turnaround heading into this week’s game, centre Tim Simona is already eager to get back out on the field for Friday night's match at ANZ Stadium.

With just four days in between Sunday’s 30-22 loss to the Raiders and the upcoming match against Canterbury-Bankstown, Simona wants to get back on the field as soon as possible.

“The boys are obviously really disappointed about the weekend,” he said. “We are ready to rip in with a big game coming up this Friday.”

“There’s only two days until we play now so it’s a really short week but we can’t wait.”

With over 13,000 members and fans attending Sunday’s match against Canberra, the Samoan International wants to make it up to those supporters this week.

“Our fans who came out to Leichhardt Oval left disappointed,” Simona said. “So we want to repay them and get the win on Friday.”

“That game was definitely a learning curve; we just can’t take our foot off the pedal against any team in the competition.

“It’s a learning process for us and hopefully we can improve this week.”

With atrocious conditions this week at training, Simona is one player who’s not worried about playing wet weather football.

Many will remember his stellar game against the Melbourne Storm in 2013 following a torrential downpour, scoring a length of the field try and setting up another in the 22-4 victory at Leichhardt Oval.

“It’s not just me, I think most outside backs love playing in the rain,” Simona said. “Trying to get early ball and beat the big forwards up in the middle. “

“I love playing in the wet… so hopefully it rains on Friday,” Simona said jokingly.

In the previous encounter between the two sides in Round 4, Wests Tigers raced out to an early lead, only to be pipped during extra time.

Simona highlighted the team’s need to be consistent on a week-to-week basis and improve on their second half performances.

“We just know we have to be better than last time we played them,” he said. “I think our second halves in the past few games have been disappointing, but we are working on that and hopefully we can make it a win this Friday.”

“Top teams at the moment, like Melbourne and the Rabbitohs, they fire on the big stage.

“We talk about being consistent, relentless and aggressive in everything we do and we are learning every week.

“We want to be up there with those teams and we need to string a few wins together now.

“The Dogs are missing a few players but will no doubt be bringing their A-game this Friday and so will we.”

Why even talk like that , why bring up the missing Bulldogs players ??

Focus on the WT's and Tim Simona

And in this week's edition of "we are ready for a big game"….....
Tired of hearing it.

Actions speak louder than words.

And so begins the ''we know we need to improve articles". I love you Tim but you can cram it with walnuts ugly

" it's a learning process for us and hopefully we can improve this week"….
I would rather he said "we will DEFINATELY improve this week"...doesn't sound like they are hurting too much from the appalling performance last week.......22-0 after 25 mins and then get beat....so I certainly hope that they DEFINATELY improve on that or maybe we need to make some not so popular changes....

I'd hate to be the player dobbed in to front the media with the "we learned our lesson" talk after a loss like the last one. Play well and hold your head high Tim.

Perhaps we shouldn't talk to the media at all…. :unamused:

Have a great game Tim...

Nothing against Simona-he is just the clubs spin doctor spokesman in this article but coming out and saying 'last weeks game was a learning curve' really makes you sound like a goose because they had their 'learning curve game' last time we played the Dogs and died in the arse and THEY LEARNT BLOODY NOTHING, hence the spineless 2nd half against Canberra. They are treating us fans like imbeciles TBH. Talk will be cheap on Friday night when the Dogs will inevitably get their hunting pack mentality going and treat our spineless forward pack with contempt once again. Hope Im wrong.

I hope he has a blinder also Geo

But the problem is that mentality

No wonder what has happened recently is happening when that is your mindset

Focus firstly on winning your battle against your opposite player and focus on what will benefit the WT's and the players around you

Forget who you are playing against , who's in , who's out

I'd like to think the team would have learnt something from last week's loss, but then the pragmatist in me thinks the team probably hasn't.

I think it's more a concentration thing, which has been a problem for us in the past. We very rarely put teams to the sword.

I honestly think it comes down to leadership. We need to sign a leader in the forwards. Woods is exceptional but I don't think it's in his game to be the aggressive, hard hitting leader. Taupau has the potential to but he doesn't have a big enough motor and Sironen and Lovett are far too green. Robbie gets given a spell after half time so when he comes back on the damage is usually done. We need an experienced back rower to lead the way and set an example for the youth we have coming through.

If we hadn't already learned from the Bulldogs game, how could we learn from the Raiders game just like that. JT is as much to blame as the players. His tactics and interchanges are key reasons why we are losing matches we should be winning.

In fairness to Tim though, Tigers and the media are pushing regular commentary from the players, and the players can really only give cliches and platitudes, so we shouldn't expect much.

No player is gonna say what they really think, either to give insight into the club's weakness or give ammunition to the opposition.
