Sione Fainu #284

When you’re charged with that serious of a crime, you really need to show you have reformed. Russell Packer is a good example. Curb stomped a guy, but while in prison, got a Uni degree and really turned his life around. With this guy, no one even knows where his head is at. Could still be a dickhead for all we know, and some are falling over themselves to want to sign him.
Yeah - I fail to see the conversation.
It’s nuts.

Even Packer,
was only out of the game for 2 years!

Wests Tigers have secured promising prop Sione Fainu on a three-year deal worth $1.1 million that will go a long way towards ensuring his talented siblings also remain at the club.

Fainu, off contract at the end of the year, has agreed to an extension that will keep him at Concord until the end of 2029. It takes the 24-year-old off the market at a time when the Perth Bears are attempting to build their roster ahead of their inaugural NRL season in 2027.

The Tigers are hoping Fainu’s brothers, Latu and Samuela, will join Sione in committing for the long term.

Sione Fainu played all 24 games for the Tigers last season, just a year after completing a development contract, to take his NRL total to 36.

The siblings have achieved their goal of playing first grade together, with all three scoring a try each in last year’s win over the Roosters.

Latu Fainu, who – along with Adam Doueihi – is competing to be Jarome Luai’s partner in the halves, is contracted until 2027, as is Samuela.

A fourth footballing member of the family, former Manly hooker Manase, will be released later this year after serving time for stabbing a youth worker at a Mormon church dance.

Sione, Samuela and Latu have previously publicly stated that they want to finish their careers playing together. The Tigers are expected to move on Samuela and Latu before they become free agents on November 1.

Part 2

The immediate priority for the Tigers now is re-signing Jahream Bula. The rising fullback has a mutual option in his contract for next year; if the Tigers trigger it, he will play on for $900,000, while the figure will be $800,000 if the player takes it up.

The club is hopeful of agreeing to an extension before the season starts.

And it’s likely Jack Bird has played his last game at the club as he looks for a fresh start.

The former NSW utility is open to opportunities in the Super League after struggling to find a new NRL club. Leeds is looming as his most likely destination in the United Kingdom.

How did we re-sign him for that figure, our man Shaun Mielekamp is a genius.

A concrete re-signing is always so much better than a 'fluff' journo article about pre-season squad standouts. Great to see Sione rewarded for his hard work and willingness to muscle up when we need him. 12 months ago he was a 50/50 on the cusp of NRL football. Now he is an integral part of the NRL squad. Personally, I would have him at 13. Sure his brothers have been a fillip for him but he has earnt his place in our top 17. Well done also to CEO Shaun M if the signing numbers reported are correct. Onwards and upwards. Great, positive news.

He still sleeps in jail buddy
- I’m pretty right for a bit I reckon.
Don’t believe I doubted Taylan at all, might have underestimated how hot he’d come back though…

You’ll need to show me the bit where Taylan was in jail, living off shit food and a couple hours outside of a concrete box a day for half a decade.

Plus we have api (our captain) in that spot for a few more years - we just speared out next up and comer for the bloke behind him - and have a red hot kid in 20’s…

Where you playing Manase?

Bench hooker

If you were offered the opportunity to play with your brothers, you have the talent, and it gives you a sense of purpose in life you'd be foolish to pass up the offer

I dont know of a.player who has had 5 or 6 years out of the game and came back succesfully....wouldnt be many if any.
He was also just starting his NRL development when arrested its not.like he was established and had a heap.of NRL experience...would.make it even harder to 'come back' to pro sport when in fact he had only just gotten a.foot in the door
