Sironen @ 13

A lock can play a similar role to 5-8th. Take one look at Bird who at one time was credited at "the next Wally Lewis" in Origin.

Take a breath.

What's the point of that? Bird doesn't play lock….

Take a look at Birds career and how many times he has swapped between Lock and 5-8th.

Sironen at Lock isn't totally off base. And its certainly not lunacy.

Its simple. Benji is 5/8\. If he wants to be part of the team he needs to play somewhere other than 5/8\. With his size, lock seems logical, or perhaps centre. He couldnt do much worse than Lawrence there.

If Sirro moves to the back row, it will almost certainly be to the edge, not lock.

But addressing the OP, currently Sirro is a 5/8, just about all the best kids in juniors play five eight, halfback or fullback. Many of which move elsewhere. Frank Puletua played a heap of 5/8 in rep teams, to pick an obscure example, Luke Burt was an amazing 5/8 for Newcastle in HM.
Sirro's skill set IMO is well suited to an edge back rower, particularly if his path to the halves is blocked by others. His strength is running the ball and he plays very direct, he clearly has the frame, this could be well used in the back row. The NYC game afainst parramatta, he was very strong in teh backrow.

Because everyone remembers what a great backrower Paul Sironen was, so when we found out he had a son who looks to be a big lad we figured that'd sort out our forward pack right out. Everyone just assumes this 5/8th business is just a phase he's going through as he matures and Curtis will eventually take his place in the second row, just like his dad in the 80's.

By the same logic we should be signing Mitchell Pearce to play Lock any day now.

Don't forget Kieren Jack at fullback and Montana Elias at hooker…

I think it will all depend how Curtis fills out. Obviously he won't be a 6 for long. Lock is probably the next step before moving into a ball playing second row role. I agree too that he has the makings of a wide running back rower, similar In style and hopefully not work ethic to Dave Taylor .

where will you play Marshall if Sironen plays 6? Sometimes you need to use the resources at your disposal to strengthen weaknesses.

Benji would look much better with a couple of destructive runners either side of him.

No, lock or back row he needs to play there. We have Mitchell Moses and Luke Brooks that must be our future halves. That is why he should play lock. He is alo a big fella and it will be easy for him to lose fitness and not be a 80 minute player.

mate i love u
but
didnt u say u have never seen brooks play
how can u say he MUST be future halves if uve never seen him play?

just read that Benji will be out for a few weeks….......Hopefully we will be seeing Sirro in the top grade soon. If we have the forward lineup from the Storm match along with Sirro, will be great to see

Olsen Filpaina was not a tall 100kg plus 5/8 like Curtis Sironen - he was a chunky piece of metal Lego with a unique offload after smashing through brick walls. There simply hasn't been the same type of 5/8 player since OF - that's a FACT - that's why people keep trying to compare the next big 5/8 as the Next Olsen blah blah blah! Curtis is nothing like OF and he's nothing like his Dad! He is simply a big unit and his name is Curtis Sironen. His Dad, Paul Sironen, came on the scene when forwards were comparably tiny, let alone the halves(eg John Sutton)! Remember, Sirro was off in the USA (Hawaii?) trialing as an NFL player. No Rugby League Player of note has ever done that. Sirro's physique was unique - he was BIG! He couldn't fit into the scrums when he did come into first grade - he imbalanced the front row and second row. Let's enjoy Curtis's development rather than put extra pressure on him. He's still eligible for Under 20's folks! IMAGINE how good he'll be in 5 years! 10 years! But if he plays this weekend vs St George I'm sure he'll carve them up!

Why isn't he playing NSW cup ?
Potter has said before he wants to see players in reserve grade before jump up to 1st grade.

Comparing players - Remember a young bloke called Simon Dwyer? The next Brad Clyde? I wish Simon well in his recovery. How could such an injury like his have happened? What a tragedy for such a promising player! I may be wrong but I vaguely remember Clyde was a back before he moved to the back row - maybe a centre but I think he was either 5/8 for the Raiders when Daly was centre or he was 5/8 at some other stage. Ahh Memory! - Old age does that to you most times!

Toddy Payton was a half back trapped in a props body young sirro will end up similar maybe not at prop but a ball playing forward, don't know how you integrate this at such a young age but that's what the coaches are there for to decide his best path to the top level

No O

No, Chris O'Sullivan, a handy, clever 5/8th, was the player who originally forced Daley to play at centre initially. I dont believe Clyde ever played in the backline and definitely not at 5/8th.

I doubt he ever played at 5/8, but I know he had a crack at centre back in 88 when Dean Lance was lock. I recently saw a replay from back then when they just got done by Canterbury in a semi.
