SMH Article 'We’ve lost faith in them’: Balmain consider shock exit from Wests Tigers merger

The same people who removed the entire board at the end of last year. We’ve had independent directors before, we’re just supposed to be replacing the ones we already removed.
If my memory serves me right, no one got rid of anyone. The directors rightly stood themselves down as a recommendation of the review.

I think the only thing Wests Tigers supporters (not Wests or Balmain) should be worried about is the review not being implemented and the old HBG crew getting back together to stifle any recent/future progress. Just implement the review as approved.

Interesting way to flip it.

Most important thing is unity.

This is by design surely?

Would it be far fetched to think or suggest that they
have been put back on the board as debenture holders
and directors (as plants) to take over the full license
in 2030? Burgess was chairman of the Magpies too?
Thats the reason Balmain side are showing concern,
and old wounds opened up. All bullshit though imo.
Chammas has a bit to do with this as well honestly

Out of curiosity, in the unlikely event that the clubs did split and both Magpies and Tigers were in FG, who would the post 2000 supporters follow?
I'm pre 2000 and I'd pick another team if they did that I'd be done with both of them

The previous board was dominated by the HBG.
Admittedly I didn’t know much about how many directors we’ve had in recent years. But we had 2 from Wests & 3 independents at one point in 2015. Obviously at some point a Balmain representative was added back on. I wonder how we went from the independent directors having more votes to what it turned into.

I’d like to believe that happened, but I only ever heard it reported as they were dismissed. And given the chairman had refused to step down before the review, I can only assume he would have been forced to leave after. Also the way he described finding out about it from the Balmain representative suggests he didn’t leave by choice.

As someone who grew up following the Magpies, even if a seperation ended in the return of my old team I don’t think I’d be able to go back. At this point I’m something like 40 jerseys deep into supporting the club we’ve built together. There’s full grown adults who have never seen either Balmain or the magpies in the nrl, expecting everyone to just abandon what we have because some dinosaurs can’t let go of the past just seems like a slap in the face.

The way I see it, we have a brand in the Wests Tigers that is much more than either of the seperate entities were, the best way forward is to come together and push the club we have to new heights. There’s a lot to look forward to.

This story has done exactly what it was designed to do, destabilize the club. If anyone is under any illusions that either old club would stand on their own two feet without the other they're kidding themselves.
Put your big boy pants on do what was said was meant to be done with the review and crack on, the NRL would love to have a spare license up their sleeve for expansion.
Its been 25 years quarter of a bloody century, HBG have control they should do whats best for the club as it stands not serve self interests.
The NRL love the Tigers emblem as a brand thats common knowledge really, these dinosaurs living off past grandeur are the problem on both sides.

The independent directors were appointed when Balmain borrowed money from the NRL, when the loan was paid back by Wests Ashfield part of the deal was they would get 4 seats Balmain 1 Wests Magpies 1 with 2 independents.
