SMH - Divisions derailing next step for Wests Tigers

I dont know Gary… Firstly I feel we will out-grow (capacity) both the suburban grounds within 2 years and secondly I like the idea of playing at the SFS as it makes it more accessable for out of town travellers. We are a Sydney Based Franchise, but we also have a great appeal around the country, especialy in Queensland and New Zealand.

Personally just on the grounds while I absolutely love and adore the place Leichhardt Oval in its current form just isn't cutting the mustard.

I think we could easily have the six games at Campbelltown which is almost up to standard (something needs to be down about the concourse area/toilets under the main stand).

So really I think its Leichhardt that is a bit of a problem.

I think it needs (at least)…

Plastic seating right around the terrace areas.
New PA system - desperately!!
New scoreboard (not demolishing the old one).
A rethink of the extremely congested (and I think unsafe) concourse area in front of the Latchem Robinson stand.
Better toilet facilities on the hill side.
Stairs, railings and barriers on the hill to improve safety.
More corporate areas (which would be the biggest and most expensive issue).

And somewhere to park your car wouldn't hurt. !

You need a special secret parking spot like I have

Seriously though isn't the light rail going in nearby? This will help.

I think if its time to ditch the state cup teams, then its time to ditch the old grounds as well.

This is the time to make a move…ALL or nothing...no more farting around hanging onto scraps and remnants of memories.

No pretend BS...go hard and REALLY and truly stand on our own two feet!

ONE home ground...SFS!

I disagree with this.
There is no reason why we cant continue to split between Leichhardt, Campbelltown, and SFS

Its just hanging on to the past….I thought we were moving forward.

Apparently its noe a business...juniors mean nothing, sponsors mean everything.

All or nothing.

Things dont have to be absolute, Although I feel you may be using hyperbole to make a point.

There will be a day where we outgrow Leichhardt, I hope even when this happens we play a couple games a year there. I feel we have to play at Campbelltown, which has the surrounds to expand if need be.

BTW no one has said juniors mean nothing.

I don't see any reason for giving Campbelltown the flick. There's enough space around the ground so that it could be re-developed further. First thing I'd do is re-design the eastern side with a new grand stand and corporate facilities.

Leichhardt is the problem. As much as I enjoy watching the Tigers play there, that ground only has so many years left in it the way it is. To keep it, the current grandstand would have to be completely demolished and re-built if the Tigers are going to keep playing there.

Alternatively, seek state govt funding to redevelop Concord, it has the potential to be an excellent home ground alternative to Leichhardt IMO. Grandstands on both sides, knock one one, rebuild and include facilities for the Tigers to base themselves out of there still, and then do the other grandstand. This would take a couple of years to do and then Leichhardt could be farewelled.

I'm probably dreaming though.

The use of traditional grounds has been quite the money spinner in recent years.

Funnily enough the raising of games from 3 to 4 has probably lessened the average

Concord Oval…now that's a great suburban ground going to waste!...would cost a lot less that LO to bring it up to scratch...then they could ditch SFS and play 6 games each at CS and Concord

Only one problem with LO, CSS & CO… It would appear no level of Government is interested in coffing up anymore coin?!

We could go back to Doubles and Meat Trays at the local... 😕

The grounds issue imo is the big stumbling block re: low membership numbers.

How can we one day expect to achieve 25/30,000 or more members when 66% of the time we cannot fit that amount of people into the grounds?

Just trying to get my head around this issue (which I'm finding a bit confusing). Two questions I have:
1\. Is there an issue about State Cup teams? Balmain are teamed with Ryde Eastwood, which is a large club in its own right. Would there be a stand alone Ryde Eastwood team if Balmain dropped out?
2\. Do the Wets Tigers do much training at either Campbelltown or Leichhardt?

they do barely any, if any at all. One of the things I would like to see is when the Tigers are playing at C'town they train there in the week leading up to the game, and vice verca with Leichardt. And some weeks they should involve fan days

Gnr that was what sheens had them doing early on when he came to the club so that the playets get the feel of the ground. I take it this is not the case anymore?

You guys think parking/transport is bad for Leichhardt - wait till you need to get to Concord. Parking for about 20 cars and waiting for a bus on Sydney's busiest road!

Why cant the WT play in alternating colour strips every week or every month?….that would go a long way to silence those who believe the JV is too one sided to Balmain....

I doubt that… I'd like to think it would be true but I doubt it.

They turn St Christophers into a car park these days as well, but agreed, transport is an issue, but better than Leichhardt i would have thought
