SMH - Divisions derailing next step for Wests Tigers

You ask any player and I'm sure they will take a pay-rise over playing at CSS any day of the week. Bigger Crowds = Bigger Income!

The players enjoy playing at any ground that brings the crowd closer to the action, and if you ask any NRL Coach about what's more important to being in the Top 4, I doubt they will say home ground advantage.

I dont think I've seen many games at SFS were the Tigers Fans havent been 3 to 1\. All teams will attract more of a 'home crowd' for every game simply due to Membership. As Ink and Happy have said, maybe if we played more games at the SFS we could increase our membership $'s. Not all fans enjoy the hussle and bussle of getting in and out of Leichhardt.

Oh… The spin about LO being a 12 point advantage is only in the fans heads. I highly doubt the boys will be running out thinking we can let the opposition score 2 early tries. :wink:
 
B&W Tiger, you will also find our win/loss record of 2011 games played at CSS and LO is much more promising than that of the SFS.

-At CSS, we played 4 games and won 3.

-At LO, we played 4 games and won 3.

-At SFS, we played a total of 6 games and won 3.

Just looking at these numbers, ild much rather win 75% of games rather than 50%.

Not to mention, the atmosphere at CSS and LO is great every game. I find the atmosphere at SFS mediocre at best, with the exception of finals and blockbuster games (which is not guaranteed at each SFS game).

Maybe somebody could organise a poll:

"Where would you rather the Tigers play?"

It could have 3 choices being;

- Move all games to SFS.
- Move all games to CSS/LO.
- Keep the same allocation of games as it is (4 games at each CSS/LO/SFS).

If it could be organised I think it would be interesting to see how each choice poll.

So, what you are saying vicious, is that the current system of having a Magpies state cup side hasn't worked (as evidenced by Hayne, Folau, Inu joining other clubs etc)?

So instead, how about we spend MORE money on the juniors in the area and develop an attachment to the magpies brand (and also Wests Tigers), so that we may be better off retaining these guys?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's what the Wests Tigers are doing…

Keeping a state cup side does not develop any form of attachment for kids. Free junior passes to watch Benji Marshall play at Cambo in a badge that may also be on their jersey, alongside the magpie, will.

Spend more money on the kids and make sure they know the Magpies are with the Wests Tigers, not fighting against them. State Cup currently does nothing for the Magpie Brand.

That is exactly right!

Everyone loves coming to Leichhardt, and to a slightly lesser extent, Campbelltown, and it seems that there are only a select few who really complain about the facilities any more. The players are the same. You hear all the time how they love playing at both grounds, and I can tell you - that is not simply BS to sell tickets, it is genuine!

The SFS is a great alternative for the commercial side of the game, and allowing more than 20,000 people into the game, but it would be ridiculous to move away from either ground in the foreseeable future. And again, I would bet that unless it was a $100,000-$150,000 increase per player, they would take Leichhardt any day of the week. For players like Farah, Marshall and Woods playing at Leichhardt is what they love about the game, and that is the same for guys like Lawrence, Fulton and Groat at Campbelltown.

I personally don't see the issue with the set-up as it is now - and facilities or not, I would be completely against giving an uneven amount of games to either Leichhardt or Campbelltown just because a couple of whingers 'demanded' it.

Your are right Watto,
Any player would rather play at a ground that brings the crowd closer to the action. That is the home ground advantage of LO and CSS.

Although I can't agree with the membership theory. Since when do you need to be a member to go to the SFS to watch a game.

And as far as going out and letting in 2 early tries, why give away your HGA. That's what it is all about, getting the packed stadium behind you, has to pump you up. Doubt that would happen by running out and giving away 2 early tries. If the players believe they are a better side at LO, well let them believe. The mind is a powerfully thing.
And try telling any Balmain supporter the HGA at LO is all a figment of their imagation, I think not. :unamused:

Personally I prefer the way it is,
This year I'm going to all 12 home games
I love going to CSS
I'll tolerate the travel and the ammenities at LO.
The atmosphere at both is awesome.
as far as the SFS is concerned, for finals and blockbusters its great for any thing else it's average.
 
If we are going to save money by having the one "Wests Tigers" Premier League side, they need to spend whatever money is required to ensure they have the same facilities to do 50% of their training at Campbelltown.
Even a proud old club like St George were smart enough to realise what they had to do (do atleast 50% of their training in Wollongong) to ensure the bulk of the juniors from the Wollongong region stay attached to their club.
As per yesterdays article in the SMH, the majority of the successfull Parramatta junior rep teams now originate from the Liverpool-Macarthur region because the kids from this region do not feel any sense of belonging or attachment to the Wests Tigers. Why would they when the Wests Tigers first grade team don`t train in their area, are very rarely seen in their area and play 4 times per season in their area.
I don`t know if there is a short term solution to playing more games in the area, but surely it`s not too much to ask to do 50% of the training in the area to make it appear that the Wests Tigers are their local team!

They are based in Concord in the heart of what is now the Balmain Junior District Rugby League, the players can often be seen at the local shopping centres such as Westfields Burwood and kids are not stupid, they know the Wests Tigers are the local team for the Balmain Junior District Rugby League.
I want to know how simply playing 4 games per season in the area and doing little else can make the kids from the large Liverpool-Macarthur region feel like the Wests Tigers are their local team?
To be honest, Parramatta, the Bulldogs and the Roosters seem more interested!

St George do all their training in wollongong.

yeah, I'd agree to do more visual appearences in the area as it would inspire many kids… But as a few have said, the goal is pretty clear for the kids. Play hard you get a run in Junior Reps. Go that extra yard, you get a run in NYC. You also need to factor in every NRL Franchise is sniffing round from a very young age regardless who's territory it is supposed to belong to.

We also have to remember 75% of the kids who make junior reps usually find beer and girls when they turn 18 as a far more attractive path to follow. :laughing:

oh I'm more than happy with the current set-up. I'm just looking at it from a more commercial aspect for the future as I do believe we will out-grow the suburban grounds.

I dont go to CSS, but I try and get down for as many LO & SFS games as possible. 8 games is better than 6 in my eyes, so the longer it remains as is, the happier I'll be. You could never take away the feeling a full Leichhardt delivers… It takes me back to my old Lang Park.

Most of those old Balmain Supporters have possibly had one to many at the Orange Grove :smiley:

Yes you really have to be dedicated to make it to the top if you live out West.

A good alarm clock to get up at 6am everyday…plus a torch I think its dark at that time.
A mum that will get up and make your lunch and pack your bag is a bonus.

A good car that wont break down traveling to Camp Concord....parents who will pay your petrol money is also another bonus.
A hobby..maybe you will be allowed one hobby say Tennis or Golf. Something that keeps you fit, not PlayStation.

No Girls. OK one or two girls but nothing serious.
No Beer. OK one or two beers remember you are the designated driver.

And only 20 minutes max a day on facebook..it can become as addictive as some NRL supporter forum web sites !

Not neccessarily. Anyone who dealed with him would know he'd rather be at the pub than at training
