I think if its time to ditch the state cup teams, then its time to ditch the old grounds as well.

This is the time to make a move…ALL or nothing...no more farting around hanging onto scraps and remnants of memories.

No pretend BS...go hard and REALLY and truly stand on our own two feet!

ONE home ground...SFS!

You know Ink you might have hit the nail on the head there .

Especially if the aren't prepared to seriously upgrade LO

In this day and age people want all the mod cons

Maybe only play 2 games at LO and CS and the rest at SFS

And there goes your home ground advantage.!

Easy fixed get LO up to an acceptable standard and everyone will be happy

Would need a total make over, from the ground up

Well we do have a premier that is a tigers supporter these days. Who knows what he might do to help with cambo and leichhardt.

No thanks. As much as I love LO, this state is a basketcase at the moment and our tax dollars could be better spent elsewhere rather than fixing up a League venue.

Waste of time and money given the number of other "boutique" stadiums in the Sydney basin.

Council would be better off selling the land (similar to Harold Park) for a truckload and building a car park for the hospital etc.

Exactly, with police benefits being scaled back and our schools + Hospitals being run down and overworked money could be better spent. Just look at the SCG for an example of Money going to waste. $186M to upgrade one of the stands and they will only get an extra 3000 seats out of it.

Be careful what you wish for with regard to Leichhardt: once something like that is gone you will never, ever get it back. There are already plenty of sports in Australia (and plenty of teams in the NRL) you can go and watch with ample parking and a cup holder on your seat. What we've got is almost unique, and if that means you have to get a bus once in a while or queue up for your beer I for one think it's a price more than worth paying.

In no way do I want LO gone. I love the place. However begging for state government handouts simply because the premier is a Wests Tigers supporter when there's other places better for the money to be spent is wrong.

I was livid at the nepotism when Kogarah got a plethora of funding simply because the then prime minister and premier were Saints fans.

I think Leichhardt would be a lot less cash though. Wasn't the latest upgrade $2mil? Cambo was $12 mil. Small in the grand scheme of things especially if the federal government chips in.

For god sake, we wasted $1bil on the ceiling batts and overspent $2bil on the school halls. There is your money right there for every ground in metro and regional Australia to upgrade to a red carpet venue and create a stimulus activity. God damn labor.

Happy to clarify: my comment wasn't meant to be aimed at you and I'm sorry if it seemed like it did. In very, very general terms (and risking going off topic) I'm always slightly suspicious of the reduction of every single bit of government spending to "how many nurses/teachers/cops would that have paid for?" (see Sydney NYE fireworks for a prime example) but I don't know anything like enough about the ins and outs of either upgrading Leichhardt or state budgets to comment specifically.

I guess my position is that if upgrading Leichhardt isn't going to happen I'd rather keep it 'as is' than move wholesale to the SFS just because it's got a bigger car park (and so forth).

No offence taken mate, I get what you're driving at. But what I do know is that Leichhardt will a bloody fortune to upgrade and the state government is not the place to look for the funding (at least at the moment.)

Would love to see some private funds be thrown together for an overhaul, but there's no benefit for them and Leichhardt council will make things incredibly difficult.

I think the SFS is just as hard to drive to and park at as Leichhardt Oval - it can be a hell of a place to get away from!

A lot more expensive too… The SFS does have the advantage of being walking distance to Central Station and normally the buses are a little better laid on out there.

yeah i dont bother driving to the sfs/scg anymore. the car park there is a nightmare to get out of. train to central then bus/walk is easy anyway.

back on topic though, sorry if this has already been said somewhere, but i was just wondering what the nsw cup team in 2013 was going to be called? is it wests tigers or balmain tigers? i assumed with only one state cup team itd be wests tigers but ive only heard of "the demise of the magpies" thats why im not sure..

As I understand it the plan for 2013 is to have a single State Cup team called Wests Tigers.

ok thanks yoss. theres not much of a ruckess about the demise of the balmain tigers is there? compared to the magpies anyway
