Fix our dam centre and winger defence on both sides of the field and we have the size and skill to beat most teams.

This needs to be our focus. We probably need to turn some players over though because that first half was terrible and the reserves are doing well.

I'd bring Simpkin in at the very least. I'd consider sacking Tamou as our worst performing middle forward and bring in Tuki Simpkins.

Can't disagree with this approach. I'd probably go a bit further.

Yep I think both Simpkin/s get their shot this week. Mybe can stay centre and (hate to say it) but BJ probably does a better job than Roberts right now.

Simpkin needs to get a run. Liddle's service is terrible and he made two key errors yesterday.

I would imagine it would be Gould

Wasn’t he commentating? He

I'd be more concerned about who listened and how this got to the Journalist.

This is a club leaked aimed at two people and to reassure the fans. Every tigers supporter I know is blaming either Brooks , madge or both. This article says

1. We have had enough of brooks and are looking to move him on

2. If madge doesn’t deliver we have a termination clause that allows us to get rid of him without costing us a fortune.

Yep I agree. Let’s looks at who we see is our future and start playing. If it’s Laurie 1, douhei 6, madden 7, Simpkin 9, then let’s run with it. Simpkins, tualagi, amone...etc.. let’s get them in there.

Do we have any good outside backs coming through? I haven’t been paying much attention to our reserves to be fair

Brooks is not the problem. I think he links quite well with AD, we have showed we can score points.

Our problem is and has always been our edge defence... We have two centres and two wingers who cannot defend to save their lives. At least 3 of the cowboys tries could of so easily been shut down with a basic edge defence read (something U15s learn to do) but were not. We take those 3 tries out and this game looked a whole lot different.

Teams can score either side of the field simply by spreading and know they're good for 12-16 points a game without even trying. Has nothing to do with the halfback being able to lead a team around, can he do better? ABSOLUTELY but is he the issue with this team - no.

Fix our dam centre and winger defence on both sides of the field and we have the size and skill to beat most teams.

I think Edene Gebbie should walk into a wing spot soon.

NRL 2021: Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire backed by club

Wests Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis has spoken out after the club’s terrible performance against the Cowboys.
Phil Rothfield

The Wests Tigers have given an iron-clad guarantee that coach Michael Maguire’s job is safe.

After a terrible performance against the Cowboys on Sunday, chairman Lee Hagipantelis directed full blame at the playing group.

“There is no change of coach on our radar whatsoever,” Hagipantelis said.

“Madge has extended for two years. I don’t think the issue at our club is the coaching.

“Your patience can be tested but that first half performance on Sunday was all about effort and attitude.”

The Wests Tigers lost 34-30 and were booed off the paddock at half-time, trailing 28-6.

“This is something no administration has got control over,” Hagipantelis said.

“Once the boys cross that line and run onto the paddock they’ve got to do their jobs.

“We can’t run onto the field and neither can Madge.

“I’m sure he’ll make the appropriate enquiries into why they played so poorly.

“We’ve got some cap space and when the appropriate opportunity comes up, we’ll be looking at it.”

That is a pathetic cop out by the club, so the full blame of our demise is thrown at a bloke who is terribly down on confidence, while Teflon Maguire gets off Scott free......pathetic

Not really unfortunately. Our winger Alan F could be anything but can’t catch a high ball and gets found out in defence. Cini tries hard but I don’t see him making first grade. Hoffman might be worth another shot.

This. Every player should be on notice after that performance.

Yeah given where the opposition tries are being scored, it's not really the fault of Brooks, but then I still don't think he's capable to lead the team around.

The cap is coming back in order, we're no longer going to pay over for players, the Centre of Excellence will improve the training and make us more attractive to come to, but after so long without a finals appearance, everyone wants instant success or at least clear indications of moving forward on the field.

We've had a lot of false starts over the years, periods where we thought we were on the road to improving only to be let down time and time again.

We definitely need new centre/wing combinations, not sure a different halfback would make that much of a difference at this stage.

Totally agree. Funny how these media releases never call those above the coach into question though.

Maguire not the problem?

- The rules change to enable piggy-back sets off poor discipline in the ruck. Maguire response? Let's build a massive, immobile forward pack for 2021 - he's not a progressive thinker...the best coaches are.
- Our forwards run one-out all year and the entire first half yesterday.
- Our backs have no depth in attack.
- The team apparently lacks commitment and work ethic. Maguire response? Let's sign James Roberts when we already have one mentally-weak player in the backline who can't control his temper.
- Adam Doueihi didn't kick at all in the first half yesterday.
- We didn't offload once in the first half yesterday.

Madge might be saying we need to do the above...he either isn't and that's the issue, or he is and the players aren't listening. Either way, it's not good.

I was at the game yesterday and to me it looked like the players deliberately didn't pass the ball to James Roberts. They never went right, and on the odd occasion they did, Doueihi cut him out or stepped back inside.
If you have the time go back and try and find one time where Roberts received the ball off of something structured. Even better, try and find an occasion where the backs actually had some depth and organisation ion the first half. We have no structure/the players don't listen. Worst of all, the players don't seem to want to play for each other. I think there's a cultural issue in the team where things aren't gelling, the players aren't responding and that starts and ends with the coaching staff.

No doubt Madge has a tough job to turn this club around, but it's not working. He's not the man for the job.

Yeah, end of the day it's very harsh to put that on Brooks, which is how the article reads. He's not a leader, or at least the type we need, and hasn't become the gun we hoped and needed. I also wonder if this story gets run if we win, which we were very close to doing.
