We're actually witnessing so much history at this World Cup
Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe going band for band in the all-time World Cup top scorers list is one for the history books

This is what football is all about.
Two outstanding teams giving everything for 90 minutes.
But the best part came after the final whistle.
France celebrated with humility, dignity and class, showing nothing but respect to their Moroccan opponents.

Super-sub Merino wins it!
Mikel Merino scores a dramatic late winner off the bench AGAIN to send Spain past Belgium 2-1 and into a massive World Cup semi-final against France

Belgium competed well and became the first team to score against Spain at the World Cup when Charles De Ketelaere cancelled out Fabian Ruiz's opener, but it is the end of the road for them at this tournament - and presumably what's left of their golden generation.

2 controversial calls lead to Norway going equal & staying equal either side of half time.

If the officials stop the play like they should have on the first goal- Norway is 1-0 up at full time.

If the second Norway goal isn't disallowed due to a soft push from Haaland, it's 2-1 Norway at 90 minutes.

Given the Ronaldo leniency at the start of the WC, given the US red card 'suspension'...I think there is a fair reason to question a lot of the integrity of this year's campaign.

"After Norway took the lead in the first half, England's Jude Bellingham equalized with a great goal in first-half stoppage time. But after halftime, Fox Sports showed that the ball clipped the sky-cam wire in the run-up to that goal, landing sharply at the feet of England's Elliot Anderson.

Norway goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland, who had cleared the ball before it hit the wire, tried to alert the referees to what had happened; manager Ståle Solbakken could later be seen doing the same.

The contact with the wire should have resulted in the game coming to a stop.

It's unclear why the referee crew didn't catch that given that the game balls are equipped with sensors that detect even minimal amounts of contact.

Via Martyn Ziegler of The Times, FIFA checked the data from the sensor but did not find any evidence of a collision."

So the players can see it in real time. But officials can't & then can't see it in replays & can't pick it up on their monitor equipment??

I'm disappointed that the Norwegians and Swiss are out, but I'm excited about the possibility of France playing England for the Holy Grail in the final.

This is how I see it playing out -

heart says england beat Argentina
Head says Argentina
That's very possible. Lionel has been amazing, and the supporting cast came to the party today. I wonder what the final score would have been if that second yellow card hadn't been shown to Embolo.

Personally, I feel it was a harsh call, and the Swiss did extremely well to push through to extra time with one man down.

Embolo was a clear dive. Just ironic that that led to a second yellow and send off against a South American opponent who dive half the match.
