Solomona Faataape #276

It's funny you should say that but overall on a wet windy night, I thought both sides did a pretty admirable job in the ball handling department.

Some of Faataape's catches from bombs were exceptional.
Yeah he had to motor towards a couple of them...was right in front of me...he did well catching and.hitting the deck in one motion at full pace

Well the real point is: if he does dive on the ball or even somehow manage to pick it up in the run - its still tackle 3 midfield.

That's a decent position to be in but we were Tackle 3 midfield a dozen times during the match without scoring.

It's always crazy to me after a loss how people focus on one late mistake, as if there were not 20 earlier mistakes or 50/50s that were not just as costly.

If anything Turuva's failure to pass to To'a is the standout lost moment.

People need to stop dwelling on an error made by a development player when it is painfully obvious that there were others that failed at various times that are supposedly leaders and on a much higher pay grade than Solomona Faataape.

Other than that "error that supposedly cost us the game," I thought he played well and for the most part was very solid.

It was still a gutsy effort when you consider the players that were injured and last minute changes that had to be made.

We have a reasonably solid top 13 and a very effective bench when we are at full strength but it is painfully obvious that we are lacking in depth in key areas.

Alarm bells had to be ringing when the team was announced and Skelton and Sam Fainu were included in the 13 starters.

At the time I channeled Geo by saying that we should expect changes and our worst fears came to pass when Skelton was ruled out the day before the game and Samuela hobbled off the field mid game, and who I might add probably has not been 100% since the start of the season.

Surely the hammer blow had to be Doueihi pulling out in the warm up which resulted in a reshuffle that severely impacted the effectiveness of our bench.

About the only positive thing that came about from the player outs was the inclusion of Latu Fainu, this guy needs to stay fit and healthy and we have to find a regular spot for him in this team because he can be huge for us in the future.

With injuries and possible suspensions I shudder to think who ends up taking the field against the Broncos in Brisbane next week and how many of those players are still intact at the end of the game.

Just as an aside I can't help but notice that Geo and Tigergran are both missing from the bottom of the members online list again (or still.)

Completely agree - we have everything go against us, lose by 2 and half of the forum go berzerk! Obviously the win would have been great but we had no right to be in that game. Warriors were good and the ref was on their side too.

Can't pick up a ball but he can pick up a contract extension
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
#welcometothetop30solomonafatape

There’s 4-5 blokes in our top 30 that will never even be depth for our NRL team so compared to them Faataape deserves a spot. I’m hoping that his upgrade means we move to rid the deadwood and can add some more real NRL players for 2026.

What's that you say? 🤔😂🤣
See, I told ya I had some pull around here.

Just like that, I got the young bloke a promotion and relegation back to reserve grade all at the same time. 🤣

I’m ok with his upgrade but not if it stops May from coming on board , or May has rejected our offer , time will tell but if May was coming I would think it would already be done and he would be in training , been 2 weeks he could have been in training so far

Taylan's currently focused on being a D-Grade Soundcloud rapper and holding Bible study groups in his garage every Thursday. he even said that "all religion any religion can come". his Instagram is genuinely the gift that keeps on giving.

This man would've prevented the Crusades from happening had he been alive a few centuries back.

until the man upstairs tells him his mission is over he won't be playing the greatest game of all and Wests Tigers should stay well clear.

Yeah for the moment he seems caught up in the euphoria of all the charges dropped, headspace no room for footy at present.

Faataape is a great 25-30 player in your top 30.

Is he a fantastic starter? No (at least not at this stage).

But he also isn't single handedly destroying the roster budget, the onfield performance isn't abysmal & he isn't holding back the development of young players coming through.

As our 5th-7th best outside back, I think he's great value. And I don't think his effort can be questioned.

For comparison- Junior Pauga has played 5-10 games a season at the Roosters the last 2 years.

Who would you prefer?

Gee he gets a lot of criticism for probably the 6th choice outside back.

He "does the job" in my opinion.
Doesn't drop the ball
Rarely misses 1-on 1 tackles
Diffuses kicks
makes solid metres and good PCM

He had a complete brain fart during a hail mary play. It happens.

Not much excitement so far about Faataape getting the Top 30 deal … they might need the young dude who has taken over from Rabs Warren son to hype it up a bit …
