Interesting to hear so many on here are indifferent about the origin result. Growing up it was the only time I would support a team as passionately as I do the Tigers, the Blues that is. It still means a lot to see NSW win after the 8 series Qld streak but maybe not quite what it used to be. Can I ask what has changed for people? Is it the lack of biff?

It used to be state against state, mate against mate. They put that jersey on they forgot who they played for on the weekend. The biff added to the spectacle because it showed the passion. It’s become filtered down over the years. Yes it’s fast but it just misses that fierce rivalry and intensity. I am not saying bring the mid-late 80s back but bring back the gladiatorial contest that it built itself on.

Add to that we now have the 2 captains pre game talking about a gentlemen’s agreement. The players were encouraged to stay down to alert the ref, now they’re being asked to cop one on the chin for the game? Were’s the logic in that? This is the sort of hypocrisy which turns fans cold.

People are actually now having to book accommodation on the Island resorts off Townsville
