Mitchell Pearce has been recalled to the Sooky VB Blues side while David Klemmer will make his Holden State of Origin debut in next Wednesday's series opener at ANZ Stadium.

Roosters halfback Pearce has been named at five-eighth and will partner incumbent Trent Hodkinson in the halves, while Bulldogs prop David Klemmer will come off the bench.

Josh Dugan will replace Jarryd Hayne at fullback, while Josh Jackson will start at lock in place of injured captain Paul Gallen.

"It's exciting times for NSW. It's a great group of guys who fully deserve their spots," NSW coach Laurie Daley whinged.

"They have to uphold the values of what it means to play for NSW both on and off the field."

Daley said Pearce was an important member of the Blues family.

"He's a guy who I've got a lot of time for and I know he can add a lot of value to this team."

In the absence of the injured Paul Gallen, Robbie Farah will skipper the Sooky La La Blues in Game 1 of the series on May 27.

"It's always a great honour to captain your state," Farah said.

"We've got a good core senior group around us and I'm sure we'll prepare well for next Wednesday."

Alex Johnson missing is the biggest surprise for me.

I love Luke Lewis, but I think it was time to move him on, Id have taken the same approach with Scott, and gone Cordner to start with either Thompson or Frizzel on the bench.

Glad to see Daley picking players on form …
The 5/7& 9 .... WTF !

Also having 2 halfbacks in the halves is laughable !!!

Look I like the NSW side , but I'd be concerned with fact you don't have someone with utility value

Dugan , Morris have had numerous injury concerns . If someone does get injured …..

I guess Scott is the guy for that. Into the centres and switch things around him.

Not a great option but the only one I can see!

I'm amazed Hopoate has been selected. Hodkinson lucky and rewarded for his match winning try in 2014 but he hasn't been doing much for the dogs. I like the bench for the blues.

Really? It's origin time already?

I was just getting into the NRL season and now I have to watch reserve grade for 10 weeks or so. Seriously, why must we play 3 games of SOO? Can't it just be one game and we can get back to watching top class club footy.

Not a bad side, but not sure about the Hodkinson/Pearce combo.
I would also start with Cordner and play Hoffman off the bench. And although I have not been a fan of Tamou, his form in his past couple of games has been OK. Happy to give him Game 1 to see if he can do a better job than he has in the past. Should be a good contest.

Where have you been watching top class club footy?
The ISC?

Hopoate is undeserving and the halves are woeful (not that there are a lot of better options out there).

We are gonna get creamed.

NSW look a strong side on paper, we need to harness some of that emotion that the banana boys do and we will be right

Great forward pack and bench. Although outside circumstances concerning Gallen and Bird have actually brought this about, it's nice to see some new blood in there. I hope the new blokes can perform well enough to keep those 2 old fossils out of Origin permanently.

Also glad to see Lewis not given a walk up start. Though both he and Watmough have always performed well in Origin, I really think they now know their rep careers are over.

The halves are a bit WTF? I can't really understand Daley's reasoning for choosing 2 halfbacks to play together, but hey it might just work. I would've chosen Maloney with his Roosters halves partner though - he was MOM in City/Country and has been playing a lot better of late, certainly better than Hodkinson. That said, Hodkinson is a calm customer and calmness is certainly needed during the frantic pace of an Origin Series.

Hopoate on the wing is the strangest selection, imo. He really hasn't done a lot this season and I reckon there are better options out there, but he has been in Origin before and will know what's expected of him I suppose. Certainly Brett Morris would've been there if fit.

The biggest surprise for me though is the non-selection of Matt Moylan! Selectors and commentators alike haven't shut up all year about how wonderful he is!
