Has anybody else noticed how atrocious the spelling is on this forum? I am 40 and consider myself a competant speller but for god's sake how bad is it on here? What are the teachers teaching today? For example

gud - good
feild - field
may as well - mose

Purdy shore dis cum up resuntlie iye agride wid id.

Field being spelt feild could be easily be a typo & not a spelling mistake like many other things.
I'm sure most people who spell good as gud know how to spell good correctly, just getting too lazy to type the extra letter
But I have noticed some spelling errors. Doesnt really bother me if there's one or 2 errors, this is what annoys me…
'gud game by the tigrs on satday, gud defens by benji marsell'

The only spelling error that annoys me is the consistent addition of an unnecessary r to Robbie FaRah's surname.
ONE R in Farah please.

Great stuff CNX. You found it. Free omo for a year!

You blame teachers for today's poor spelling?
Spend a day at work with me Shane, I'm a teacher (and I have (sometimes) made mistakes because I don't check my posts).

I do blame teachers. It's their job to teach. Teachers love a whinge. I wish I had as many holidays as you get. whinge whinge whinge, woe is me….

I wish you knew how much of my "holidays" are spent working for other people's children … *insert ignorant rant here* ... I teach spelling EVERY SINGLE DAY, and not just in allocated spelling lessons ... You can actually blame the use of mobile phones, and the so-called "TXT TLK" for the atrocious spoelling skills of most young adults.

Suzie i think your right about it been mobiles they get use to abbreviating words they forget the right way of spelling it.

And some people can spell but cant be bothered to write the full word or its a typo.

Like every profession there is good and bad some teachers work really hard others don't.

Alot of kids and young adults these days cant add up either and you have to blame the system for allowing kids to use calculators instead of showing them how to work it out.

I hate it more when someone post something and makes a obvious typo only to have some smart ass pick it up and correct you on it.

One constant mis-spelt word that gets on my nerves is 'lose' getting spelt 'loose'. It happens so often that i've even found myself correcting myself just because thats how you are use to seeing it spelt these days

My pet hate at the moment is "then" instead of "than" and vice-versa. Than is a comparison, then is a reference to time.

one of my pet peeves is 'i before e except after c'

Considering there are 6x as many words that break that rule than follow it.

I think it is pretty good on this forum compared to other places.

I must admit though, when I first got the internet when I was in my teens about 6 years ago (Yeah my family was late coming into the World Wide Web), I did speak 'lyk dis' for a bit, don't ask me why, I think it was because I thought it was 'cool' and that everyone spoke like that on the web.

Anyway I joined the forum and made a full post talking like that. It's fair to say I got shot down immediately (Pretty sure it was by Ink) about my spelling and grammar. Since then I have used proper spelling and grammar with everything from here, to facebook, to texting!

So thanks Ink for straightening me up

Yes!! Thank you sir! That really gives me the Brad Pitts…

I recommend unsure spellers to use Google Chrome which has a built in spell check. if you see a red line right click it and check if you have it right!!!!
