One constant mis-spelt word that gets on my nerves is 'lose' getting spelt 'loose'. It happens so often that i've even found myself correcting myself just because thats how you are use to seeing it spelt these days

Yes!! Thank you sir! That really gives me the Brad Pitts…

I recommend unsure spellers to use Google Chrome which has a built in spell check. if you see a red line right click it and check if you have it right!!!!

It's on Firefox too, well the one that I use lol

I wish you knew how much of my "holidays" are spent working for other people's children … *insert ignorant rant here* ... I teach spelling EVERY SINGLE DAY, and not just in allocated spelling lessons ... You can actually blame the use of mobile phones, and the so-called "TXT TLK" for the atrocious spoelling skills of most young adults.

Suzie i think your right about it been mobiles they get use to abbreviating words they forget the right way of spelling it.

And some people can spell but cant be bothered to write the full word or its a typo.

Like every profession there is good and bad some teachers work really hard others don't.

Alot of kids and young adults these days cant add up either and you have to blame the system for allowing kids to use calculators instead of showing them how to work it out.

I hate it more when someone post something and makes a obvious typo only to have some smart ass pick it up and correct you on it.

Your posts are hard to read.
They go from A to D to E to C to G then back to F via B
This is the first Ive read of yours, from start to finish that I didnt have to read 3 times to understand.
Nothing personal, I just find them difficult.

Has anybody else noticed how atrocious the spelling is on this forum? I am 40 and consider myself a competant speller but for god's sake how bad is it on here? What are the teachers teaching today? For example

gud - good
feild - field
may as well - mose

The irony in this post knows no bounds.

Yet everyone seems to always get our coaches surname correct … Perhaps they have had plenty of practice ... Or is that practise !

The anally retentive and the perfectionists are having a field day If you can understand what is being written who cares

Honestly :unamused:

Does it buzz your ego picking on people who may have issues with spelling or constructing sentences correctly

Lack of literacy in posts shows you have a flagrant disregard for the English language and those who go out of their way to make their posts legible enough for you to understand what they are trying to convey.

I really loathe text talk, that is the absolute pits when it comes to literacy skills.

People Who Put A Capital Letter At The Beginning Of Every Word Like They're All Proper Nouns and people who cannot differentiate between they're/their/there & your/you're annoy the crap out of me too, but I can live with that because some people may have dyslexia or other issues with literacy that may not necessarily be attributed to laziness.

You do have a point Suzie. I agree. I didn't think about text.

Shane 2801,
Don't want to turn this into a teacher rant but your comment is based on ignorance.

No doubt you also believe teachers are hard done by and deserve a pay rise?

You could not pay me enough to be a teacher

In my opinion any one in this day and age who chooses to become a teacher is an angel

As long as they use the correct spelling in the class room

Let the young uns use whatever spelling idiosyncracies they want on here

They are here to have fun and talk about the Tigers , not to be brow beaten by us oldies

At least people aren't against portmanteau words. I thought they would be in this thread.

You know like, chillaxe.

One thing I do feel for teachers is discipline. I would love for the cane to be reintroduced. Give the teachers a little power back in the room. I would have no problem givin authority for a teacher to belt my son if he did something wrong.

Same goes for the police. Let them swing a baton once in a while to assholes that deserve it.

I'm not thats for sure Shane

I can remember a French teacher telling me a would have to retake a French exam even after I was one of 3-4 that passed

I told him in no uncertain terms that I wouldn't be (it meant missing rugby training )

He sent me to dp to get the cane , and I refused to bend over to get the cane and told him if he rang my father and my father agreed i would cop it sweet 15 minutes later the old man shows up to fight the cause

one of my pet peeves is 'i before e except after c'

Considering there are 6x as many words that break that rule than follow it.

Most people aren't aware that my real name is LEIGH but because of the I before E rule I am Liegh, now that just doesn't make sense to most people, however…......everyone else calls me Leroy anyway.

Who's with me????

Not me. I've worked in some pretty foul schools, where violence and intimidation are the norm (remember that video last year, where the bully got slammed?) and I would never hit a child, especially one who was in my care for education. If I did, I would expect to be confronted and/or charged with assault, which is what I would do if someone else hit any of my children. Discipline is not hitting. And seriously, who of us who were educated when the cane was in use actually respects the "authority" of the person administering it? I know plenty of people who saw it as a badge of honour to get caned, not a punishment. And it certainly didn't curb their behaviour.
