Split the Big 4?

Do you guys think Parra and Canberra have been attractive options for players in recent years? Canberra is a hole and were a struggling team, and Parra have been a bigger basket case than us. Both teams have been able to attract very good players. No reason why we cant do the same.

Canberra didn't attract any big names, they made the right decisions. Have a look at their side, the only player on big money would be Papali.

…and Junior Paulo and Joe Tapine and Aidan Sezer but yeah I agree, they've done really well to assemble the squad they have and to already have it locked in for 2017/2018.

Tapine isn't a big name, nor is Sezer.

Paulo wouldn't be on over 400k.

Happy to be corrected though.

You are missing the point Milky. Whether or not they are 'big name signings' they have been able to assemble the squad they want. No reason we cannot do the same.

Tapine up to $500K - http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/joseph-tapine-breaks-silence-on-newcastle-knights-contract-drama-20160220-gmz91u.html

Paulo estimated at $500K - http://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/nrls-3-million-midseason-player-transfer-merry-goround/news-story/72f5f3c367f43f9952717705828165dd?from=public_rss

Sezer reportedly $500K - http://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-season-2015-canberra-raiders-reportedly-sign-aidan-sezer-on-threeyear-deal-from-titans/news-story/7a7eefaf15ea7b0e1f4d10ae9516ad0d

Sometimes these figures are off but Paulo was certainly in demand at the time and the Knights threw good money at Tapine to try and keep him.

Wow, that is crazy money. Thanks Nelson.

I'm over people saying they think Brooks will turn the corner…..he in my eyes has been put in reverse and is back in pit lane.
Ideally we need Tedesco and Woods to stay. What we need to find out is whether Moses can own this team at 7\. Think that's the way forward but Brooks needs to go back to reserve grade tho. Incidently you wouldn't pay over 600K for Moses.

I'm starting to think letting them go is a good thing… Let the Tigers keep Tedesco as he is Fan Boy #1 and let the others like Woods & Brooks go to a club where they will play better and more enjoyable footy.

If Aaron goes to as club with a solid prop rotation, he will more than likely enjoy his footy more just doing his hit-ups and making his tackles without the pressure of being the only quality prop at the club. Every Sunday will be a breeze at work for him.

Luke should go to the Bulldogs and play behind there pack. He will carve it up playing behind some real forwards, and his new fan base will appreciate his abilities more.

Mitchell, well Mitchell would slot into most teams except Melbourne.

Tedesco would excel behind the Dogs Pack as well…Brooks/Tedesco would be lethal for them...

I believe it was Teddy who coined the phrase 'we play our best footy together'

It was reported by Paul Kent, that the Management for Moses, is asking $900000 per season…...

I would not consider him to be worth anywhere near that figure.
Brooks would probably asking for something a little less....again not worth it.

The WT should ask around to see who else is available in those positions and try to lock down players who are value for money in those positions. We need established 1st graders.
If they can find those players, then sign them and let Broses go....

In the long run, we cannot afford to have all that money tied up in players who we hope have potential.
That extra money should be spent in the positions that need strengthening, centre, back row...

Paul Kent was the same attention seeking and rumour mongering journalist who reported last week that Cleary had been signed by Wests Tigers for 3 years. A day or so later clearly reported that Wests Tigers had not even talked to him.

Cleary is more than likely telling fibs as he is the only party to this rumour who has a responsibility to the outcome.

Wonder if Cleary still works for the NRL?

Moses may want 900k but there's not a single club in the league that will offer him that much. I want Scarlett to be my girlfriend, doesn't mean she's going to take me up on that offer….

We will have to pay 20-30% more than any other club to entice any decent player to us. If Bird is worth 900k we'd have to offer him what 1.2-1.3 million to have any chance. That's what many people don't seem to understand and why it's so hard for us to recruit without gambling by paying overs and hoping we end up getting some sort of value

We should move heaven and earth to keep Teddy. Woods is OK but no way we should pay over 600k for the guy - he plays the ball so slowly because he stands in the tackle an age without making ground or offloading. That is a liability! Moses is worth 500-600k, and Brooks isn't worth squat. Just my 2 cents.

LOL!
We are paying OVERS now on Brooks and Moses - hoping that they become something they are not.

Why not pay overs and get actually something worthwhile for our money?

IMO we should pay overs for one of the proven top notch coaches.

Bring in Hasler, Bellamy, Flannagan or even Arthur and our team would be sooooo much better. They would improve the roster too in half the time.

While i agree with that our team and management are basket cases the raiders have mostly raiders juniors in their side. Paulo and the 2 poms are the only real first imports other than players released from other sides. They picked up Austin, Sezer and Leilua who were all unwanted from their previous clubs.
Our pick ups are not so good, the dinosaur Tim Grant who can barely get out of his own way, the broken down racehorse Matt Ballin and the slow, overweight and ineffectual Jamal Idris.
