State of Origin 2026

Anyone want to take guesses on what time the NRL come out today and clarify it wasn’t a send off? I’ll say 11:37.
5.42 pm yesterday

For all those crying, thumping the table and stamping their feet it was a head clash only:
"This incident involved clear and forceful shoulder-to-head and head-to head contact with no mitigating factors.

.......and people question why this sport is going down the toilet when the sports governing body gaslights what everyone saw with their own eyes. Thats the standard they are setting.
And for the record; I dont support either team, I watch it for the competition and spectacle which got waylaid 3/4 of the way through. Not a good example to set if you're trying to increase viewership.
rant over

The thing is the NRL preaches clean safe football and then applies different standards to different levels of the game. They are leaving themselves very open to lawsuits both to players getting serious injury and players receiving harsh penalties for lesser offences.I am sure many of us old blokes can remember when Dennis Tutty took the governing body to court (and won) over unfairness being applied in the game and imho it will only take one player to do it in regards to enforcement/punishment of foul play and all hell will break loose.
You have to have consistency to keep your credibility in professional sport.
I agree....it does seem bizaare different penalties for the same.offence in different comps...run by the same governing body
Theyll likely come unstuck.by this one day youd think

What did 'everyone' see?
I saw a shoulder to the head...granted it want until i saw a clip online...the TV replays immediately after didnt show all angles.

Btw crowds and TV ratings are way up...increasing steadily

If someone is sent off during a game then there should be a suspension at the very least. This only getting fined is a load of BS. It was a shoulder charge and it was dangerous. Our players and some others are getting suspended for weeks for far less. It’s completely unfair.

That is true about crowds/ratings but i would also claim that confidence in the integrity of the game is dropping every year.

"The decision to make changes to the judiciary system so that players are docked a percentage of their match fees for minor offences in Origins and Tests instead of serving a suspension in the Telstra Premiership is also intended to protect the interests of clubs and fans, while still providing a deterrent against foul play."

Theres that lack of integrity @jadtiger

Theres always two sides to this as well, I wonder how Koula and Manly feel about it all...Im sure the Knights are breathing a sigh of relief

So it is widely accepted that Klein overruled the Bunker. Some journos coming out to release audio of what Bunker said to NRL but they aren't addressing that issue.

So, this means the on-field ref is allowed to overrule Bunker when it comes to infringements? Is that the precedence set?

Agree with you C but it wasn’t an NRL game so that point is moot.
Anyway, it is what it is, on with the show.
And we still know there are different rules for rep games !
H&C
I don’t mind the rule so the club doesn’t suffer from an incident that occurred in a game they are not involved in.
But do think the player should be suspended for the next Rep game for the length of the suspension.
Let’s say Ponga got 2 games that would cost him $60 thousand in match payments.
That way the person who did the crime suffers not his club.

Absolutely, Koula is missing games but not the offender. $6k fine when your on a $1mill is no punishment.

It's been clarified that the bunker told Klein that it was 'AT LEAST' a sin bin. So no he didn't overrule the bunker. The bunker allowed the on field ref make a decision and advised him there was direct shoulder to head contact

I wonder what was going on in Clearys head that last conversion....almost psyching himself out of it...pressures a funny thing...he wouldnt give that kick a 2nd thought usually
I think he was thinking about how game 2 last year was lost despite NSW scoring more tries when Sack Lomax had to take over the goal kicking due to Cleary having a leg or groin strain or something similar.

Once again NSW were in a position where they had scored more tries and goal kicking was going to be the decider, so a lot was resting on his shoulders.
