Things can only improve for the Tigers this week against Souths. Both teams come into this game looking for a much needed win. Souths have lost their last 3, with the Tigers losing their last 6.

In 26 meetings between the clubs the Rabbitohs have the upper hand, winning 15 clashes and 7 of the last 10\. The last meeting between these two was in round 14 last year where the Tigers put on an impressive performance, winning 34-6\. After 8 rounds this season, the Souths are averaging 20 points per game, whilst conceding 21.1 points per game. The Tigers are averaging 19.2 points per game and conceding 27.1\. The Rabbitohs are averaging the least errors per game (8.6) and rank second when it comes to possession, averaging 53% possession per game. The Tigers rank 10th in this regard, averaging 50% possession per game. Whilst the Rabbitohs rank highly regarding possession, they rank 3rd in the competition for most tackles per game. This could potentially mean the Souths are averaging between 3-4 players in each tackle.

Souths have scored the first try on 4 occasions this season, with two of them coming from hooker, Cameron McInnes. As we know, the Tigers worst period is between 40-60 minutes. The strongest period for the Souths is in the opening 20 minutes, winning 4 contests. On the other hand, their worst period is between 20-40 minutes, winning 2, and losing 6 contests. Interestingly, when leading at half-time, Souths have gone on to win 3 from 3\. However, when losing at half time, they have gone on to lose 5 from 5\. Along with this, the Tigers have also failed to make a second half comeback this season, when losing at half time they have lost 3/3\. This makes it crucial to be in the lead at half time.

The lack of offloads may be apparent again this week, the Souths are conceding the least offloads per game, resulting in the least ineffective tackles. In the last two weeks, the Tigers have made only 6 offloads (5 against Storm, 1 against Raiders). Excluding Robbie Farah, the last Tigers forward to offload the ball was J.Aloiai, way back in Round 5 against the Sharks. This stat does not represent the Tigers offload ability, but could rather be a reflection of a teams tactics/strategy.

Behind Newcastle, Souths have ran for the least metres of all clubs, averaging 1475m per game. Against the Broncos, Sam Burgess ran for 113m in 14 hit-ups, his brother Tom ran for 108m in 12 hit-ups. When it comes to Hit-up metres, the Rabbitohs are conceding the most metres per game from hit-ups (721m). Looking at the bomb kicks, the Rabbitohs have successfully defused every bomb kick this season, not dropping a single one. Whilst they have not yet dropped a bomb, they rank 15th in bomb kicks caught, making them one of the least tested teams under the high ball.

It's interesting for sure, says their forwards platform is bad, they don't make so many line breaks and their kick returns are poor - all of these are the primary contributors to yardage.

It also interests me that Souths concede comfortably less points than us (though we had a blow-out which I am sure skews things), but concede lots of hitup metres. So it sounds like Souths are not good at slowing forward roll-on, but defend their line ok.

Sounds like Souths completion rate is pretty good

That doesn't bode well with us turning the ball over willy nilly , they will wear us down and kill us in the 2nd half when our midget pack gets over run

I would guess a lot of it comes down to Inglis being a shadow of his former self, but evidently their pack isn't what it was either.

If it's down to how the other team is playing rather than how we're playing we have even bigger problems than we thought.
