The kid needs to go to the Players association for assistance. Denying him the right to sign a professional contract, support his family out of spite for us is very wrong. It has nothing to do with the player, and everything to do with us.
We even gave them Matto for free and now they won't release a 19 year old who's currently their 7th choice at prop, and not even able to play first grade for most of the season?

Really? He has an agreement in place. I can't see the logic there as much as Id like him to be with us immediately. They're not obligated to release him.

Well if we knew at the time then the answer would be yes
But there lies the point
At the time of releasing Matterson we probably didn't know that we were going to sign Utoikamanu
We may have targeted him once Parramatta spent their money on Matterson
It could have been a very smart play by the club as we got under the gard of Parramatta
But instead of congratulating our club for signing the next Payne Hass some of you want to kick our management in the guts without knowing the facts
Parramatta may have just thought hay, let's get Matterson as he is a great player on a cheap deal and he wants out of the Tigers
They spend their money on Matterson and when they do that and let their gard down they have no money left and we pounce on Utoikamanu

We could not officially negotiate with Utoikamanu until after November 1, and the club wanted Matterson off their books before then.

Missed for 2020, for now. He’s signed to us from 2021. If they want to spend 2020 developing a kid who will be gone the year after, let them. Shows what idiots they are.

But they won't develop him. They'll leave him to rot in reserves or even Flegg.

And that is the only potential problem that I have in not getting him early. It is not like the Matterson situation, as he is only 19 and on a development deal, so they can pretty well do what they like with him.

So a development deal, enables the kid signed to train full time with the first grade squad by the first grade coach, partake in the events / community commitments of the first grade squad.
Be available to play in the first half of the season if there is no first grade squad players available in that position.
Be included in the first grade squad in the second half of the season if the player is selected.

What exactly are Para going to do other than not guarantee him a debut in first grade this year.
Are they going to banish him from training and interacting with the first grade squad?
Please.

I am unsure as to what they may choose to do, thus I only have one concern. If you don't think that leaving him playing with kids won't compromise his development, that is your prerogative.

This just again shows what a grubby club they are !


They have at least 4 of our players at the moment (Ray Stone, Moses, Brown and Matterson) possible others I can't remember

Well maybe we should have some backbone and not release players prematurely? If we had have held out from releasing Matterson we could have used that as a bargaining chip. But we didn't, so here we are. Again.


Yeah thats the spirit!!!! Of course that would have meant that we couldnt have made an offer to Latrell, couldnt have signed Leilua or been involved in the player market, but yeah, we taught Matterson a lesson and looked like tough guys. Shame the player culture has taken a nose dive and there is unrest between the whole player group, but doesnt matter because we feel like tough guys.

If Bellamy was in charge do you think he would have released Matterson with nothing in return? Of course he wouldn’t have.

Ps we didn’t get Mitchell so moot point, and DT reporting we’ve signed LL on $400k a year, which is WAY overs.

I think he’ll see out his contract unless they can find someone to replace him with for 2021. I reckon he’ll be there for 2020 for sure.

Have always had an intense dislike for the Eels hence why cant stand the thought of playing second fiddle to them at Bankwest. There was some suggestion that they had approached Matterson before we gave him permission to explore other opportunities -, if so might be time to remind them of that.
