i wonder if it would be a wise move to lure the melbourne assis coach to the tigers.

I would. I've wanted the bloke for a while now. Get Matthew Johns as his Assistant or at least in a Skills Coaching role as he was at Melbourne. Kearney would bring a fresh approach to what can only be described as a stale club. Kearney would bring fresh ideas, strategies, plans to the joint and would implement structures and systems to that of what has been established at Melbourne. He has served his apprenticeship under Bellamey for close to 5 years now. He is a national coach who was also mentored by Wayne Bennett. If Sheens fails to make the finals this year, he will walk. He won't be around for 2011 regardless of his extension. Out of Brown, Taylor, potentially Cleary and Stuart, Kearney would be my first choice.

Maybe I am wrong but I thought Kearney has made it clear he holds no head coach aspirations and is happy at the Storm for the next few years

over a coffee wth his little finger pointing in the air. did he state this before the turmoil? that was then, melbourne finds itself under different circumstances now and anything can eventuate - anything.

I hope we don't get Brown, Taylor or Stuart. For quite a while I have said that we should consider Kearney but Smeg said that Kearney isn't interested in becoming a Head Coach of a NRL side for the next few years. I find that very surprising though. I wonder why he wouldn't want to be. Maybe he is too comfy down in Melbourne but I thought he would want the challenge. Being Kiwi coach he could help us sign Kiwi players.

Good point.

From memory in the interview he talked about growing as a assistant and applying his knowledge to the NZ job is his number one priority but when he feels the time is right he will consider a head coach role.

Yes the interview was before the cap drama

folkes would be good too. he doesnt muck around and his record speaks for itself. So close it seems that we have folkes but really so far away i think.

you see smeg - things could pan out differently now for stephen kearney. its all about timing now.

if Kearney does not want the job, then approach Wayne Bennett !!!.
I was of understanding he only signed for 3 years at Dragons.

Bennett will be 62 in 2012\. He might decide to retire then.

iF WE DONT SNARE kEARNEY THE WARRIORS WILL…sorry caps.

Not too sure on Folkes, I think it would take us a while under him, getting his style of player...I see kearney as more suited to our current roster than probably any other coach

I would have no problems about Kearney taking over as coach for 2012.

Though the one i would love to get is Michael Maguire who took over as Wigans coach this year in the Super league. He was the Storms assistant coach for the previous 5 years and has taken Wigan to the top of the ladder in his first season over there. He is contracted to the end of 2012 but maybe he has a clause in his contract that allows him to coach in the NRL if he received an offer. He would do wonders at our club.

i think its either one or the other, either get a coach with no FG experience who isnt in the clubs system to bring in fresh ideas, kearney would be the only untried FG coach id want us to go after, he doe have a great repore with benji too from what ive heard.

Or give the job to folkes, the mans record speaks for its self, im sure he sees the talent in this team and must be salavating at the chance to coach it Kearney and folkes are the only 2 people id want to take over the job

no royce no brown no taylor no sticky when he gets fired next year

Grant Jones.

Get rid of Sheen, Gentle and the Garden Gnome. I reckon Foulkes and Jones would get the job done together.

Why do you say that Ron?

Peter Gentle was the coach in 2008, had the likes of Lui, Ayshford, Moltzen, Dwyer, Tagive and Woods in his team, and came 9th.

In 2009, Jones still had a few of these core players to choose from, but also developed plenty other players and took them to the Grand Final.

In 2010 he's lost the likes of Lui, Fifita bros, Corby, Dwyer (injured) etc and still has them up the top playing proper footy.

To me he has these boys working as a team and seems to coach them well

IMO under 20s isnt an appreniceship to FG, its a decent first gig and hes doing a great job but 2 years as an assistant would be my suffice before he got a crack at the top job.

I just feel the jump for u20s coach to FG is a bit big
