Tigers rose coloured glasses here. No evidence of this at all. And I like Latu. But claims like this are just coping 101.
In Latu's limited time on the field over the past 2 season, he's made an impact almost every single opportunity. He straightens the attack. He can play his role as pivot, but knows when to make a move (scored a few tries close to the line for us). He is effective in defence and reminds me of old bargass joey johns.
Can agree to disagree, but I have seen enough footy to know Latu is exactly the player we need with Luai... It wasn't working with Lachlan, nor would it ever..
Tell that to Penrith, who just won 4 consecutive premierships on the back of their juniors. What happens in different sports around is irrelevant. There’s no basis for anything you are saying. You just want to convince yourself that we are a professionally run club who has has some modicum of an idea of what we are doing.
To claim what happens in the most successful sports around the world is irrelevant, indicates you are living in the past.. It's nostalgic to think you can bring through tonnes of juniors who play in the Balmain and Wests catchments and they become for the tigers version of what Joey Johns was for the Knights..
The reality is, most of the talent is going to be pushed out of Sydney because of the cost of living. Players are going to be coming from other regions and there will be fewer kids playing rugby league all across Sydney. It's already happened to the Balmain comp, Manly comp, whilst the North Sydney comp decimated years ago.. If I remember correctly Souths, St George and Canterbury had merged with Balmain at one stage at the senior levels? I'm not talking about RM or Shield. But behind that, the juniors have disappeared. 20-30 years ago there'd be 8-10 team competitions in each of these areas. Now they struggle to have a handful of teams.
The game is growing. Perth is back. They are bringing in PNG. The plans don't stop there...
The NRL and it's clubs are an employer... Footy isn't just Footy anymore.. It's a commodity.
It'll be interesting to see what happens with Penrith over the next 20-30 years. House prices out that way are skyrocketing and a lot of people living there now will probably be pushed out.
I predict that PNG will be the next junior base that catches everyone's attention, but it has so many other challenges to overcome e.g. protecting the players from the crime (both those who play there and those travelling there).
