Tallyn Da Silva #270

Tigers rose coloured glasses here. No evidence of this at all. And I like Latu. But claims like this are just coping 101.
In Latu's limited time on the field over the past 2 season, he's made an impact almost every single opportunity. He straightens the attack. He can play his role as pivot, but knows when to make a move (scored a few tries close to the line for us). He is effective in defence and reminds me of old bargass joey johns.
Can agree to disagree, but I have seen enough footy to know Latu is exactly the player we need with Luai... It wasn't working with Lachlan, nor would it ever..

Tell that to Penrith, who just won 4 consecutive premierships on the back of their juniors. What happens in different sports around is irrelevant. There’s no basis for anything you are saying. You just want to convince yourself that we are a professionally run club who has has some modicum of an idea of what we are doing.
To claim what happens in the most successful sports around the world is irrelevant, indicates you are living in the past.. It's nostalgic to think you can bring through tonnes of juniors who play in the Balmain and Wests catchments and they become for the tigers version of what Joey Johns was for the Knights..

The reality is, most of the talent is going to be pushed out of Sydney because of the cost of living. Players are going to be coming from other regions and there will be fewer kids playing rugby league all across Sydney. It's already happened to the Balmain comp, Manly comp, whilst the North Sydney comp decimated years ago.. If I remember correctly Souths, St George and Canterbury had merged with Balmain at one stage at the senior levels? I'm not talking about RM or Shield. But behind that, the juniors have disappeared. 20-30 years ago there'd be 8-10 team competitions in each of these areas. Now they struggle to have a handful of teams.

The game is growing. Perth is back. They are bringing in PNG. The plans don't stop there...

The NRL and it's clubs are an employer... Footy isn't just Footy anymore.. It's a commodity.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Penrith over the next 20-30 years. House prices out that way are skyrocketing and a lot of people living there now will probably be pushed out.

I predict that PNG will be the next junior base that catches everyone's attention, but it has so many other challenges to overcome e.g. protecting the players from the crime (both those who play there and those travelling there).

lol come on mate. Last year you were saying Latu could stay in Reggie’s cause we had Galvin.
I understand being annoyed when people leave, but there is zero chance your statement here is correct.
I was happy for Latu to stay in reggies so he could develop his game and get some reps till his time had come... and it's come early.

Everything you say is discounted by the fact Penrith have won 4 consecutive competitions based on the strength of the juniors. And considering we have the second biggest junior area in Sydney, to suggest we shouldn’t utilise that after what the Panthers achieved with theirs is nonsense.

Juniors is not about where they live , that ship sailed
Building pathways is about identifying young talent and bringing them to the club.

Penrith brought them in
Roosters but then young from everywhere
Dogs have been buying everyone under the age of 21 and then punting them
Parra under ryles are trying to do something similar
Storm go buy the best young talent
Raiders go out buying young talent
Sharks have been great at brining in young unknown talents over long period

Exactly

Yep. Well at least we have "done right by Tallan and his family". That will be a lot of solace when Api breaks down next year because Benji is pushing him 80 mins a week and we are running Hope and Murray at hooker.
I think that has a lot to do with it. Moving TDS on now creates an opening for Hope, Murray and even Haywood (NSW Cup) to get that exposure to first grade and build up their tolerance match fitness etc at the higher level.

You bring up the three wooden spoons when it suits your argument, but seem unwilling to grasp just how deep the rebuild needs to be—especially after three consecutive spoons and a full decade of dysfunction beforehand.
Agree. It needs to start at the owner and board level

Sounds like he should have chosen his words much more carefully then

Maybe if he and other officials didn’t spend so much effort pumping up the tyres of these young blokes that haven’t done anything yet, then perhaps they wouldn’t be so entitled and overpaid, and the fans expectations would be much lower
In defence. That started before Richo. Go back and listen to the first press conference Sheens gave as GM of football following Madge’s sacking. That’s also the moment these 22 HM glory boys all got their Top 30 contracts!

God. Releasing someone that has been talked up (perhaps unfairly) for the last 3 years to give an opportunity to a couple of mid 20 year old state cup journeymen is the type of decision that has produced the last 10 years of results

But haven’t we spoke about how we don’t have the depth? You don’t have a deep squad by having 1 back up player on nearly the same contract value as your main player. You build it by having multiple options.

Maybe, but Benji must being seeing something in them that most fans and other clubs have not
