Tallyn Da Silva #270

Everyone is saying Haywood’s better but if we let Haywood go and kept TDS they would say the opposite
If you’ve watched the 2 of them you couldn’t come to that conclusion. Haywood is much more of a threat from 9, has a better kicking game and gives better service. He’s not as big and strong but that will come.

We were a shambles in the weekend and a big part of it was TDS service from dummy half. Could be the move playing in his mind but I don’t think his service has ever been that good.

I respect your opinions but you are looking at it in isolation and like a lot of other times, you are being too "pro-Club" with this.

This has happened repetitively and without arguing each of the previous cases, it is undeniable that either the Club is "promising" the wrong thing or setting expectations which cannot be met. The Club isn't looking at player's motivations before signing them up for big contracts.

You are completely right that it is about their "personal brand" but that is Club wide, not limited to players.

The Club culture starts from the top and by releasing players without signing replacements or letting players go early without benefitting the team is the wrong mentality.

These decisions to let go of Klem, Bateman, TDS, Galvin etc will keep setting a precedent that you can request a release and we will let you go. I understand that you want to weed out those playes who don't put team first, but we shouldn't hire them in the first place. We need a stricter policing of the players we hire to the Top 30.

This is on the Club and it's administrators/ decision makers, this cannot always be the players/ player agents. This cannot just be "Oh, it didn't work out". The common denominator is us and we ned to change that.
Lots of clubs are releasing players and unfortunately it's concentrated in many of the poorer-performing clubs. Look at Dragons, Warriors or Eels for similar runs of releases. Many of them not specifically in favour of the incumbent club.

Richo has tonnes of experience, I don't suspect he's suddenly forgotten how to manage a salary cap or how to set expectations. In fact, if anything I think the Richo era has been more successful about signing the "right type" of player.

Galvin and TDS were not signings, they were already here when Richo arrived. They want to play FG, hopefully for successful clubs - very obvious motivation that most players have. Klem, Bateman etc were not hired by Benji or Richo.

We have released more bad players than good since Richo arrived. Even if you don't agree with his decisions case-by-case I have some confidence he knows what he's doing. We don't yet know 100% what the Galvin and TDS money will be used for in future, but KPP has been head hunted and they will need to keep funds aside in case Taylan May gets a full contract.

That's my position. Not necessarily pro-club but I also consider how difficult it is to build a roster as one of the worst teams in the comp.

Because unfortunately the obvious answer to all this is to just win lots of football matches. Winning attracts talent and boosts player retention. But also obviously it's circular, and if you aren't winning your roster management is more difficult.

Blah blah blah…

Most of the criticism I’ve heard this week is around the decision to let him go immeadiately… it’s not about re-signing him instead of Api
That's a June 30 thing, isn't anyone paying attention?

Either TDS goes before June 30 or he goes on Nov 1st. NRL has locked out transfers between this time. We made the call not to wait until end of year when we've then paid TDS 100% of his contract.

"Immediately" only applies because the decision was made at the end of June.

Richo said himself that they would not stand in TDS’ way to play first grade. Richo acknowledged his path was blocked here. So of course moving to another club where he’s a good shot of being a starter almost off the bat, plus a hefty increase in his salary is moving on to bigger and better things. It was meant in the context of his career, not a slight on our club. Now, Galvin taking a shot by replying to TDS leaving, that’s a different story. But this kid just wanted a chance to play first grade, and was willing to play here, but the club wanted to go in another direction, but I digress. His father was just proud of his son. No malice or vindictiveness in it.
Agree and for me I would have preferred him thanking the Tiger for giving him the opportunity otherwise he would be playing cup still and not getting 650k deal.

I believe the club did the right thing as its better for us long term as well.

No grudges from me as you only get so long to play and I would have taken the 650k deal every day of the week.

Tallyn himself did something like that...thanked WTs

He was willing to play at WTs so long as Koroisau wasn't re-signed. Remember the him or me spiel.

There are no guarantees that you hold a position at any club.
If Ryley Smith out plays TDS he will dominate the DH role and he has a lot more years ahead of him then API. They have just extended Smith so they are committed to him just like we are to API.
There was very much a path here sick to death of hearing otherwise
So true there is a path here I Think it's about $$$$

And he can learn so much under Api play 25 minutes a game in 27 could start and play 50 and API playing second fiddle

I think they should have kept him to Nov 1…or traded him for a player… they aren’t short of salary cap money … they are short of players
