Notice Ryan has been better than usual in the last two games? Coincidence?

That's unfair. Ryan has been playing the same nearly every week this season.

He's safe. He's 'no frills'. He doesn't make a lot of big plays or a lot of mistakes.

He doesn't deserve a lot of the bagging he gets on here either.

It's not unfair. He wouldn't make any other clubs' wing. He is not a first grader.

I'll admit his form has improved, but he wouldn't be in my team, especially next year with the new recruits.

What do you base this on?

He doesn't miss many tackles- he doesn't play out of position very often- he doesn't make a lot of mistakes- he makes decent metres every game.

Maybe I'm watching somebody different?

But I think it's funny that a bunch of fans that can happily & publicly praise a guy like Fitzhenry can in the same breath bag Ryan.

But I guess this board needs a scapegoat.

I just don't rate him. He makes me nervous, especially in the air, and the metres he makes are usually off twice as many runs as anyone else. He is a solid player. Nothing more. As you said he rarely lets us down, but compare it to other teams:

Dogs: El Masri and Goodwin (tries and freak plays all round)
Titans: Gordon and Mean (pure speed and try scoring ability)
Warriors: Locke and Vatuvai (speed, ability and size [for Manu])
Dragons: Morris and Sailor (enough said)
Knights: Uate and McManus (speed, exciting plays)

That's off the top of my head… he doesn't compare to any of these guys IMO.

Also,

Where have I "happily and publicly" praised Fitzhenry?

There is a reason he's a scapegoat - he's not very good!

Ask the Dragons fans… they let the right ones go from the Flegg team that won the comp in 2005.

Hehe- sorry mate, didn't mean you specifically.

No doubt, he's not the greatest player in the NRL.

But when Topou starts dropping bombs because his hands are as good as Vatuvai, I wonder if we'll miss Ryan then…

No doubt though, Topou will score more 'barnstorming' tries & will make more 'spectacular runs' than Ryan possibly could.

 I'll be calling for Brown or Daniela then!

Totall agree. Ryan is not the reason we have underachieved so far this year…

I think our wing options next year will go a little something like this pending more signings:

1\. Tuiaki
2\. Daniella - much more suited the wing then centre
3\. Brown - could play anywhere from fullback/centre/wing
4\. Ryan
5\. Tupou

Tupou still has so much to prove (lets not forget he hasnt played for months, and whilst at the Broncos he never set the world on fire)) and I think he's going to have to work hard before he secures a spot in first grade.

Has Tupou been signed on Match payments this season only, and depending on how he goes… an offer will be extended for next season? Or has he signed for 2yrs? Im confused...

I agree. I don't get excited when he gets the ball (like he's going to do something) but I don't worry either. He seems to play to the limit of his abilities, and it's not like he's had three years of FG yet…

Has anyone heard how the tests are going and whether he will be named this year?

He wont play this year, there is some fusion in his ACL, needs an op which will happen shortly so he can be right for pre season training for next year.

Cool. Hopefully the op is a success and he gets back on the field next season.

anybody know the latest on Tupou.

I think he was signed for 2009 with in option (don't know whether it was in his favour or ours) for 2010.

But has anybody heard how his knee is going and whether he will be with us next season.
