OFFICIAL Taylan "Tiny" May #301

The Tigers have been impressed by the resurgence of Taylan May this season and are moving quickly to extend him for a further three seasons.

DT is reporting that the 3-year contract will cost the Tigers $500k a season to keep May at Concord.

Absolute steal. Especially when you consider he came in without an offseason and has been playing like a top three centre.

Imagine him with a full offseason.

Very easy to low ball someone who was making peanuts six months ago and clearly hasn’t attracted any other suitors. Which is surprising. His personality must still be on the nose. It’s definitely not due to how he’s been playing. He plays like a MF’er.

If other teams weren't making any offers, maybe they were thinking they have Buckleys chance of prising him out of the Tigers away from his brother.

I wouldn’t say $1.5 million over 3 years is really lowballing a guy who looked like he could be going to jail this time last year. From memory, I dont think it’s that much lower than what he was on at Penrith.

Even if other clubs made offers (which we don’t know), it’s very unlikely they’d get him considering his connection to the club with his brother here and the other Penrith boys unless it was a real lowball offer.

Considering all those circumstances, I think it’s a fair offer for both parties and I wouldn’t be surprised if there were several clauses in it.

I’d expect just the standard clauses as they are enough
In reality bad boys of the nrl often get afforded chances due to clubs wanting to keep a star in their lineup.
Lesser known players tend to get zero chances

Any guesses on when he signs a 3 year contract with the WTs..48hrs?

What other clubs can you see that would even think about offering Taylan more than 500k per season to be their left centre ?
Raiders - No room
Storm - No room
Bulldogs - No room
Broncos - No room
Sharks - No room
Warriors - They could be interested
Panthers - No
Roosters - No
Sea Eagles - No room
Dolphins - No room
Dragons - No room
Rabbitohs- No room
Eels - They could be interested
Cowboys - They could be interested
Knights - No room
Titans - They could be interested
Perth Bears - They could be interested

So for Taylan to stay in Sydney you would think it’s only really the Eels who might make a play at him.

You treat the player with respect and you will get respect back.

He is already our premium center and has changed the dynamic for the better with what 4 weeks training & a handful of games. He has also delivered on his promises to the club re on/off field.

We need quality and stability in key positions which he provides us.

If he hits his peak he is worth way more than $500k per season based on the price of quality centers. It would be viewed an absolute bargain.

Other pro is keeping him for 3yrs with potential options plays in our hands for his brother to extend which we also need to happen.

I agree we desperately need to keep both May brothers long term, but we have to be careful not to overpay them as we need the salary cap space to ensure we have decent quality from 1-17 as well as some depth.

You would think if he was happy with the 500k for 3 years he would have signed by now, so it’s likely he wants more.
Maybe a sliding 500/600/700 contract for 3 years would be more suitable to ensure he doesn’t look elsewhere ?

Wouldn't read much into that V. The admin side of it between agent & club can take a few back-and-forths then lodgement with the NRL for approval & then possibly holding out to announce until after this game. He's staying!

If we do end up signing him for 500k for 3 seasons, that is a good deal for us.
