OFFICIAL Taylan "Tiny" May

Taylan May is on the verge of resurrecting his NRL career at the Wests Tigers on a deal that could see him return to play in the coming weeks. The former Penrith Panthers winger and centre, who has been searching for a new home since departing the reigning premiers last year, has opted for a train-and-trial opportunity with the Tigers — where his older brother Terrell is currently contracted.

May underwent a medical examination at the club on Monday and is expected to begin training with Benji Marshall’s side immediately if the club rubber stamps the deal. The club previously decided against pursuing May’s services but had a recent change of heart.

May turned down a similar train-and-trial offer from the Rabbitohs despite visiting the club’s Heffron Park facility a fortnight ago. South Sydney has been made aware of his decision.

While South Sydney had shown interest in adding depth to their outside backs, May ultimately chose to pursue an opportunity that offered both a family connection and a clearer pathway to a potential top-30 contract.

Sources familiar with the situation talking on the condition of anonymity as they were not permitted to discuss the deal said May was particularly drawn to the chance of linking up with Terrell at the Tigers, who have lost their past four games and are in desperate need of strike power out wide.

The 22-year-old also knocked back an offer from former Rabbitohs enforcer Sam Burgess to join Warrington in the English Super League despite the guarantee of a fulltime contract.

The Wolves had expressed strong interest in luring May abroad mid-season, but the Samoa international is believed to be determined to prove his worth in the NRL and stay close to friends and family.

If he impresses during his trial period, May could be available for selection as early as round 16 against Canberra with the Tigers having this week off with the bye.

The contract Taylan will sign will have clauses so don't think behaviour will be a big issue. If we get him that solves one issue we need. With KPP that solves another. Still need a decent prop,Lock and depth. Unless like people say move May to lock. He plays 70 minutes anyway. Sione, pole,Twal and another recruit.

Our bench still isn't right at all.

I understand

It just seems like everyone's pinning their hopes and dreams on Taylan now like he's the new Lachy..
Nah bro ! I like AD , as a footy player , but he’s not fast enough , nor does he have the in and away , inside fend to flick , quick hands , that all nrl centres need to possess in the modern game .
He has skills and brings value to a team , but I’ve been adamant his future is as an edge back rower . When he runs with power and affect , lowers his body height and looks to step at the line , he’s damaging . But imo he looks to preserve the ball in contact , which is cool if it’s rugby union but not RL. I’d honestly chuck a contract his way but say mate we need to you in closer. Spend a season in KOE perfecting it. It would prolong his career as well as he’s 27-28.

Needs to get into some form of power training to improve his reaction time. Just looks lethargic.

Yes sir Yes sir!
Richo got off the pot.
Only reacted because uncle Benny showed interest in him. Whilst I don't believe in conspiracy theories, would'nt be surprised if Benji reached out to Uncle Benny to show interest so as our CEO got of his arse and ensure we don't lose this opportunity to lock in a boy that wants to play for WT with his brother. Besides,if gets to his previous level he was at the Rift or close to it, he will be one of our best backs.

I am not saying his attack is amazing
But we know what we get from him

Vs a guy that played centres a handful of times 3 years ago
That is exactly the problem. You know that you won't get very much from, whilst he definitely tries, he is limited with speed.

I'm not making a case that douhei is our long term centre..

Im just calling out how premature it is to invest all hope into a guy who's clearly battling personal demons and hasn't stepped onto a footy field in 2 years. Its typical tigers fans delusion (I am fully guilty of this myself)... The same way everyone is pinning hopes on Mansinki.. it's way to early to even throw the kids name in the mix for NRL cause he's not even close to standard yet. Alot can happen between now and 2 years..

Don.t why many on this forum have an issue with someone who has had past mental issues but has received treatment for same. Need to give him a go and see what he produces.
where did I say I had an issue?

I have seen first hand ppl go through alot worse than Taylan and it isn't just a "go to rehab and get fixed" type of thing. Its a LONG TERM PROCESS. He is going to fk up a few times along the way, it's part of the relearning process.

I just think ppl need some perspective of the uphill battle Taylan is facing and the fact he's a long way off being in our NRL side. There's a fk tonne of work to be done.. he's only played centre like 5 or 6 times in the NRL... So unless he's planning on taking Turuva or Skelton spot he has to learn how to play centre ontop of everything else

Your earlier post implied he had weaknesses. Now you say he does'nt have issues. Which is it? He needs a ton of work. You must be joking. He is a fit young man, Will be ready to play within 4 weeks in my view if trained properly.
