Taylor calling in to Triple M Rush Hour

Look at all the pissin' contests on here.
I'm a longer serving member than you
I've spent more on memberships than you
Get a life
Nah you

Well you'll all beat me
I don't go to games. Guess that makes you far better than me

Personally, I am starting to lose faith in JT.
We have to "Toughen up" because our defense has been rubbish, like, forever. I am guessing then that at every training session he has them hitting the tackling bags. No ball work that's for sure. Maybe that's why they are playing like they are … Bored silly because all they do is tackle.

Next he'll have them tackle with one arm tied behind their backs because using 2 arms to tackle is for sissies.

JT continuously talks the talk but can he actually walk the walk? I cants see it so far but I'm happy to see what happens over the next 6-8 matches.

My gut feel, wel it ain't good

lol CQ… I got called out, had to answer it, especially if Im going to dish out stick in the first place. Sucks because I had to peg up to losing the moral high ground.

This is what i talked about in pre season as my big concern with Taylor.

Even at members days he was shaking his head at a couple of the members that wanted to question him.

ringing up a radio station to defend himself comes across as thin skinned and a man under pressure. I have not heard the interview however this is the sort of character trait I worry about. He can be an angry ant and rather then bunkering down and working on getting things right he is ringing up radio stations to argue his point.

He might have spoken brilliantly but for me i don't like it.

Eddie, some people have only heard the Taylor segment, which depends on your stance made it sound like Taylor rang up to defend himself.

Anyone who was actually listening live would have heard the preceeding conversation which was Andrew Johns, Sterlo, and another who slips my mind, talking about our offensive disfunction on the weekend. Saying that it was all the halves fault basically, Johns thinly defended our boys giving Brooks a pass mark this season, and admitted Moses is struggling with the structure… The other muppet with Johns and Sterlo was trying to gut the boys and instigate a sh!tbagging.

Taylor basically rang up to stand up for them, lumping the attacking shortfall on himself, the structure and direction he is coaching, though defending why he is chosing to do so. It wasnt angry ant, he was jumping in the line of fire not hanging Brooks and Moses out to dry.

I think it showed he has faith in what he is doing. He could run and hide but he fronted up without being prompted. If a coach doesn't believe in what he I doing then how can the players?

I'm still not sold, but I'm not looking for a quick fix either, that's a Parra thing.
Yes.
Cioaches need to stick solid with their plans, as well as their top squad…have faith, have perserverance and be patient.

I have always said defence is the cornerstone for every good team, you get this right everything follows, how many times have i banged on about manly attacking with their D, how impressive it is when they were red hot....however I never imagined a coach would focus almost 100% on D at the expense of the attack....it seems to be quite an imbalance when you condsider you have the ball in your hands around 50% of the time.
Its been evident from the start of they year what hes focussed on, completions and defense....its hard to watch at the moment but I hope it pays dividends eventually

I really think the mental psychological side of thing still needs a lot of work...we are soft upstairs imo...we rarely turn up to play, we crumble easily at times...I guess confidence helps ..im no expert, but when I watch other games I compare other teams to ours and I see things I dont see with us, hard straight running - i mean REAL HARD...hurting painful defence, playing for each other, supoorting each other...playing for your team mate....its more than just defence, because defence is all about attititude, and we have none

Well said Ink !
After last years debacle with the players and the coach , I think the players have been told their will be no mutiny what so ever with regards with the new coach .
To me the body language isn't their , they looked pissed off with what Taylor is implementing and are too scared to step out of line ?!

Step out of line hobo? What, like they did last year when Robbie was running away from the press at training sessions. Weren't people at the time criticizing the players for stepping out of line?

Comparisons are being made to this time last year, but our team now is so different. It is much younger and guys like Blair, Bodene and Gavett are gone yet we are in a similar position in terms of points scored.

Tigers teams of the past didn't have the mentality and concentration to dig in and do the hard work week after week. Taylor said he has coached against the Tigers and you could easily beat them up the guts.

He said they are focusing on Defense, as top 8 teams simply don't let in 110 tries a year. He didn't say that they are not practicing attack, they are, but there focus is on defense and field position. You have to drum this into the heads of young people. They will get it but it takes time.

Our teams have been really excited about throwing the ball around for 26 rounds but maybe if they were excited about defending for 26 rounds then they may get the opportunity to do it for 30 rounds.

I don't really care what he said like I said.

I think he has more things to worry about then ringing up radio programs. Which other coach in the NRL would do that?

It just shows he is feeling the heat i reckon.

J.T is here to stay for a "while" if not the full 3 years so I am taking a deep breath & like a lot of fans will try & keep the faith.

I disagree completely. I think it showed Taylor for what he is; stubborn and blinkered.

How the hell is HE going to teach this group to "toughen up" , …. a phrase he used repeatedly in that interview?
\
\
HE needs to "toughen up" and accept that criticism goes with the territory of being an NRL coach where 9000 people pay to be members and sponsors tip in thousands of $$.

What in the world prompted him to think that calling into Triple M would do anything to build confidence of members and fans in coaching this team?

Could you imagine Bennett or Robinson or Toovey or Maguire doing that......????

I am more concerned than ever now. To me, it showed a fundamental flaw in his character to even think about doing that.

If he didn't have WT executive approval to do request that interview, he needs to be stood down...IMMEDIATELY!

I think it showed he has faith in what he is doing. He could run and hide but he fronted up without being prompted. If a coach doesn't believe in what he I doing then how can the players?

Good post Ink. Lets hope we see a vast improvement in attitude after the bye.

Well said CQT. Love your post..

I think the phone call from Taylor was for a lot of reasons

He wants the fans to understand what he is doing and why he is doing it

He wants to show the players if they support his game plans he has their back ie Moses

Again the interview was very similar to the comments he made on the Thursday before the 2nd Bulldogs game

And we remember what we thought after that , he has decided that it was time to take the heat of Tigers and have the press focus on him , not on the WT's

Shrewd call JT

Its pretty evident by the fans on this forum that it dosnt matter what JT says or does until the team starts winning games the fans will remain divided on their opinion of him - for a while anyway. Typical of what happens with fans of all clubs who are not performing well. I would say Brad Arthur is copping the same on the Parra forums, while Ricky who has been copping it for years is probably enjoying a reprieve.

Pretty spot on, had we not lost those games we had good leads on….......we probably wouldn't have seen too many of these threads.

Besides 2010 and 2011, what we've done in the past hasn't worked, we've leaked points all over the place and for the most part, couldn't score enough to win anyway. Now here's a guy wanting to make some changes, it's only been 11 rounds and the knives are already out.

I don't particularly like where our attack has gone, but I didn't like leaking all those points and surrendering those big leads either.

I think, on reflection, some of my comments last night were a bit like the Taylor decision in the first place; make a point before you think it through. I hope he's thinking the same thing this morning.

My point remains though, that it can be seen as an act that only reinforces the type of guy many infer that he is. Some would say "passionate", some say "glass-jawed" and "thin skinned" and stubborn and blinkered. He left himself open to such criticism by doing what he did.

And, it didn't do anything to increase my confidence in his capacity to coach this side to become a stronger force in 2015 and beyond. It was kind of desperate and unsettling, in my opinion.

That said, I regret being a bit pointed and blunt with some of my comments directed to other posters. I will think before I rant again. I hope Taylor does too.

215 points conceded at round 11.

Excluding 2011 & 2012 (200 & 205 respectively,) we've conceded less points in at this time of the season since 2007\. The defensive effort is coming together for an inexperienced side, hopefully the attack follows soon.

I think this is a valid point people are choosing to miss.

People are getting frustrated because we aren't throwing the ball around but at the same time have been calling for structure and defensive attitude.

It takes time to remove old habits and culture let alone playing structure with a young inexperienced pack who should be getting flogged given how small and young the squad is.

Why go on about the young team and the inexperienced pack. Taylor created that situation on his own, it shouldnt be used to defend him.

Weak argument if thats all youve got.

I was unaware that Jason Taylor chose the players in the top 25 salary cap! How dare he have the audacity to chose this young team and inexperienced pack!
Wait a minute …..... was he here when the 25 signings were made? Did he chose these players? Did he create this situation on his own? Unless my memory is failing, HE WAS NOT HERE!

No need to be smart Mighty Maggy.

Of course Taylor didnt assemble the whole squad, i never said that but he has made decisions that have contributed to it.

Thats pretty much the truth of it.

People like myself may be critical, and we will continue to be until the results actually match the talk.

To the other half this seems to mean we are picking on him, are not supportive of the team and want the coach sacked.

I hope he learns from his mistakes and turns this thing around.

Really?

Who picked most of the 25man squad and reserve grade squads? It wasn't Taylor, he has no money to do so as its all tied up in the players we are watching week in week out.

It will be the same case for next year. He has inherited a lot of crap from previous poor miss management anyone can see that. The board has a clear policy and that's centered around juniors which he needs to support otherwise will be looking for a new job.

Ok MIghty ill bite.

Im not saying he assembled the squad, do i really have to clarify that. Seems i do.

Im saying he has made decisions that has contributed to the lack of experience and it is his choice to have both the young halves in first grade at the same time.

You and i didnt make those decisions, the coach did.

He could have taken a different road and placed a handful of experience players in and around the young guys. A lot of coaches would have.

No he chose to run with things how they are.

Therefor he cant turn around and use that as an excuse.
